I like the women in this movie.

I don't think Ghostbusters is a scared cow.

And yet....it looks bad. It looks bad because the dialogue and jokes.

People need to stop assuming people just don't like it for sexist reasons. Sorry. The trailer just sucks.

I hope the movie is great. But this trailer sucks. And that's probably why it was delayed so long.

I thought it looked promising. But as soon as I watched it the other day I knew GAF would hate it.

Metropolitan Historian is pretty fucked up though, I'll give you that.

Don't understand the dislikes.

I watched the original movie trailer, and I reacted the same way.

Hard to gauge things by only the trailer.

Note: I haven't seen any of the Ghostbusters movies.

That was one of the worst trailers I have seen in a long time. It was completely racist. It's 2016 and somehow Hollywood still uses the 'stupid black woman' archetype.

She's not stupid, she has street smarts! By knowing the city she lives in and uh, having an uncle with a car! Y'know?

Except Gremlins 2 was exactly what they wanted to make. Joe Dante got full reign and did the movie he wanted to make.

On one hand, it's nice that Dante got to do what he wanted, and Gremlins 2 is an interesting commentary on unneeded sequels.

On the other hand I still think it's pretty goddamn unfunny and bad compared to the original.

For other 80s movies that got completely unneeded sequels, there's the Lost Boys sequels. Lost Boys 3 was kinda decent while Lost Boys 2 is flaming hot garbage.

Wut? Gremlins 2 is amazing, funny, and super creative. You crazy.

Even as a kid I hated pretty much everything about it, and I don't think I'd met anyone who actually liked it much until I joined GAF and you guys left me scratching my bald head due to the Gremlins 2 love. It's a well-made move, absolutely, but the humour just doesn't gel with me like the black humour of the original does.

Started off looking like it might actually be pretty decent, 1 minute later after seeing the ghosts etc. I'm treating this more like a Scooby Doo type of film. Not as serious as I was hoping. That might be a good thing in the long run, but I was just expecting something.....different.

I'll give it a second Trailer. But first impression this has Heavy, Heavy Amazing Spiderman vibes in the worst ways, right before the Marvel deal even. All they have to do is put Jamie Foxx in this and make him a super nerd ghost eel and have Zimmer do the ost....with skrillax

God the jokes have no introspective or wit let alone bite. Plus did they have to have the overly loud black woman? as no one else acts a similar way to balance it out. Left on a island.

Yeah it really does have the whole Amazing Spiderman vibe to it. IMO Sony is the worst of the 5 major movie studios.

Ghostbusters 2 is great, the low score on imdb weirds me out. The cynical riffing on New York is so goddamn witty and nostalgic, can't do that anymore post 9/11 it seems. Now it's all sex and poop jokes like in Bridesmaids.

Patty is "The Finn" of Ghostbusters now!

No skills, talent, intelligence, etc.

"But she's brave/street smart/funny! She's the audience surrogate! She's the normal one we relate to!"

Okay.

At least they're upfront about it. No bait-and-switch.

*Sigh* They're never going to get it right. Black characters are always going to have caveats.

I agree with the points that Leslie Jones is playing a form of the "magical negro" trope, but I'm not sure how this stereotype applies to Finn especially since between him and Rey, she's obviously the more athletic and innately gifted of the two. If anything, he lacks the "cool street smart swagger" of the typical magical negro. I'm still excited for Ghostbusters although I agree - it would have been nice to see Patty take on a role that wasn't simply the Ernie Hudson one. Finn, on the other hand, I have no issue with.

One thing that confuses me slightly. People who love GB2 (or at least like it) as I do, turning around and bashing this movie for its comedy style when GB2's comedy style was SO unlike the original that it can take you out of the movie if you're not ready for it.

GB2 is louder, it's flashier, it has actual written jokes and gags that aren't deadpan improv like a good bit of Murray in the original GB.

It has what you could essentially call skits in it. In every way, it is a modern movie but with whatever pop culture humor was the style of the time.

It's pretty much the exact same style of movie, based on the trailer of GB16. At least in my view.

I like GB2 more than GB

GB2 is mostly the same humour as the first. They just toned down the horror aspect of the first to make it more kid friendly, it changes the tone of the movie so the comedy doesn't seem as bold against the backdrop as it did in the first. Still lots of deadpan.

Which is nothing like GB16.

Why do people always forget how dark GB2 was?

The underground railroad scene, the river of slime, the numerous Viggo scenes, Janosz at Dana's apt with headlamp eyes, Janosz stealing Oscar from her damn apt window

Damn creepy.

The river of slime gave me nightmares when I was little.

Thank god I'm not the only one that thought it had weird Amazing Spiderman 2 vibes to it.

The characters seem different enough from the originals which I think is a good thing, a copy wouldn't have worked without the og cast. If the characters will work remains to be seen but the trailer was ok.

I think it's odd to paint that line as non-progressive. It's not as if it's sexy in the slightest. It reads like a female version of a getting kicked in the balls joke. If female body parts are played for groans that actually is progressive.

Now, it is awful, but that's a different point.

I was more alluding to the stereotypical role for the black actress. Sorry, should have made my post clearer.

And yup the line was terrible.

Ghostbusters is pretty easily my favorite movie of all time, and this trailer... I dunno. I like it a little more each time I watch it, but the bad parts get worse each time as well.

I feel like it'll live or die on how much Feig let them ad-lib and add their own character to it. The best parts of the original were the main crew just playing off each other, and since we've got four talented comedians with this, I really hope they were given some slack with the script.

From the trailer, I dunno. I'm hopeful.

I don't see any indication whatsoever that Jones plays a form of the "magical negro" trope. The "sassy black woman" trope? Sure.

Janosz was the shit. Peter MacNicol hasn't played a better character since.

"A child? ... a child!"

Interesting trailer. In terms of production, most of it looked alright, with the effects for the ghosts maybe being a bit on the cheap side. But what really stood out to me were the characters not being funny in the slightest. Probably both the writing and the acting are to blame for that.

Melissa Mcarthy instantly makes me not want to watch this. I don't think she's funny at all. No doubt my girl will drag me to this but I have zero hype.

If that's the same actor from Mike and molly..
