Never watched the original. Just saw the trailer for the first time, and it looks bad.

Not just the humor. The look of the movie. Something is off. I love Freaks and Geeks (Paul Fieg)

Fieg is really great, but I am not excited at all for this film.

Excuse me, but I am female, a feminist, and I was looking forward to see how this movie turned out... and I think the trailer is completely terrible. I don't care about Batman whatsoever, though I don't know what this has to do with anything.

But yeah, not sure why you're saying this. People here on GAF who dislike the trailer have articulated why and I haven't seen much whining about feminists or PCness or whatnot (on the contrary some have even pointed out the racist stereotyping) so I don't know where this is coming from...

Your mental landscape has obviously been colonialized by the patriarchy. Your daughters' daughters weep for you.

Just call me sexist if you really want to. Or show me proof that there's a giant "sexist campaign" that is significantly skewing the negative view of the trailer. Either way.

Denying that sexism is playing a role in the negative ratings is really naive.

Nobody is calling you a sexist for not liking the trailer, but for fuck's sake, please don't try to start fights by saying sexism doesn't exist.

Sadly, you're probably right. It's akin to trying to convince the faithful that there isn't a God.

Oh please. Get off your high horse.

Never said sexism didn't exist. Ever.

You know what I meant.

But it's a really, REALLY bad trailer.

Yeah, and?

I never said it was or wasn't. I was merely commenting on how some people are getting way too hung up on the "nu uh not all people who downvoted it are sexist" response. Because the fact is that a lot of it is sexism. And arguing against that is, for some odd reason, a half-ass attempt to demonize the people that like the trailer. Because how dare someone like something you don't.

How do you know it's a fact that "a lot" of it is sexism. What is a lot? Over 50%?

If you liked it, of course it's fine. I would love for the movie to be good and I hope the trailer isn't indicative of the final product.

Wait, let me get this straight.

Because the fact is that a lot of it is sexism.

this is the very definition of demonizing people and dismissing criticism.

I can't believe shit like this is OK on this board. Unbelievable.

In all fairness, what else do you expect Leslie Jones to say?

'I want to torpedo my career RIGHT NOW, and never star in a movie again much less a blockbuster!

PS HI STACY DASH'

But yeah, guys, it's pretty obvious that something's fishy in Denmark with that shit. It's a combination of:
A bad trailer
Ghostbusters fans not being down with it
Heavy backlash due to the all female cast

The preview looks boring. It looks just about as boring as I'm sure the hundreds of scripts Bill Murray turned down over the past three decades looked. It has nothing to do with the cast and everything to do with the content. And you know what? There's nothing wrong with being dissapointed or upset with the obvious change they made to the cast of the new movie. Hey, it's ghost busters, but now THEY'RE GIRLS! Woooo, very exciting. It reeks of "we ran out of ideas after bill Murray turned the script down again". Maybe it'll be a fantastic movie, but I'm not impressed thus far.

It's painting all criticism with a broad brush and playing victim. It's basically Donald Trump tactics.

"Youtube is sending their sexists. Some, I assume, are good people."

The phrasing of the post inherently dictates that the poster was not claiming that all criticism was sexist.

Seriously, no one is claiming that disliking the trailer makes you sexist. What people are claiming is that a nontrivial number of people who have criticized the trailer or the movie have done or said sexist things in the process of doing so, which people are very vehement to deny, probably because they misinterpret an acknowledgement of said group of people to be grouping them into it.

The phrasing of the post inherently dictates that the poster was not claiming that all criticism was sexist.

That doesn't mean that it's not painting with a broad brush and creating a strawman to deflect legitimate criticism, all while playing the victim and labeling the critics as undesirables.

The poster was replying to someone who was flat-out denying multiple people noting the presence of sexism in certain segments of the backlash against the movie/trailer. I think you're just feeling outraged that a group of people on your side of the issue are being criticized, and you feel it's being made about you.

Leslie is ignoring WHY people have a problem with her portrayal. It has zero to do with her character "being a regular person".

Feels like she is being purposefully obtuse to the backlash.
That's not how I understand it at all. She's saying she played the character as a regular person that feels real to her, or maybe even intersects with her own personality. That's what she means by regular person. Then, all of a sudden, you have a bunch of people calling that character a stereotype. That's gotta be confusing on a personal level. Like if you were walking down the street and someone said "look at the way you're holding your arms -- stop perpetuating stereotypes!"

What kind of dumb logic is this? The trailer looked terrible because of the terrible content, it had nothing to do with the leads.

I guess. I see it more like, you have a platform and these kinds of portrayals have been done over and over again. Rarely are they flattering. There are negative stereotypes associated with it in fact. So, understandably, people are sensitive to it when they see it.

It's about ethics in ghostbusting.

Stahp.
Well at least she has you to fight the fight for her.

What fight am I fighting for her? Please, enlighten me.

This is exactly the situation she's in and I feel so bad for her :/ She's been in stand up for ages and doing her comedy for so long, and then when she finally gets an acting break, people who've never heard of her are calling her entire self a stereotype :( In Leslie Jones' specific case, the loud, proactive, confident personality is literally just how she is.

There was absolutely nothing in that trailer leading me to believe this will be even slightly enjoyable. Also, McCarthy is the worst...just the worst.

I thought so too but she was great in "Spy". The trailer for that looked like utter shit too and I ended up loving the movie so who knows.

Spy is an objectively better movie than any Craig Bond.

The construction of the trailer itself here is pretty horrendous, so I'm not without hope.

I was watching the SES-9 launch yesterday and during the live stream there was an intelligent, well-spoken, black woman explaining the science of orbital mechanics to me and it made me even more sad about this movie.

Not sure if this was posted - here is a rundown of the entire movie from someone who has seen it or claims to have.

All of that sounds terrible if true.

I don't have a problem with an all female cast, but I do think they should have gotten someone else besides McCarthy and Jones. They were the worst part of the trailer.
Abbi Jacobson or Ilana Glazer would have been a better choice.

I hope this is just some random reddit guy lying because Christ that sounds abysmal. I actually had some hope for this movie (which largely rested on the pieces of McKinnon's offbeat scientist character we saw) but the movie as described is about as tone-deaf as you can get with a remake.
