Ghostbusters (2016) Trailer #1 (Feig, Wiig, McCarthy, McKinnon, Jones)

30 years ago, four scientists saved the world. Now forget about those guys, they don't exist anymore. There's a new team, new continuity, hey remember Slimer?

And then you remember just about everyone from the original is going to get a cameo...

Why not embrace the universe? After Viggo, they set up shop all over the world, but busting has been good and there's no more ghosts. The franchise has gone into decay, branches have gone bankrupt. And now, there's been a sudden surge of ectoplasmic activity, McKinnon and Wiig discover the source and hunt down Venkman, Zeddmore and Stantz for advice. They help them get set up, they recruit McCarthy and Jones, and they're ready to go bust some ghosts...

Was my biggest problem with the movie till the trailer hit.

That reddit post said:
I work in post production and saw an early version of the movie, about 70% of the special effects are finished in the version I saw.
Sure you did, buddy.
I am an old ghostbusters fan (As a kid in the 80s I thought Gozer was in my basement and it scared the hell out of me)
Sure you did.
I didn't know much about the NEW movie before watching it and I was totally for a new female cast.
Sure.

As a big Ghostbusters fan I wouldn't really like that if they messed up the ongoing story line from the videogame and comic books.

Feig has already explained the reasoning behind this many times. He didn't want to go in the Jurassic World direction where ghost were an accepted part of the modern world, it doesn't make for an interesting or exciting story. He wants there to be a sense of discovery, and validation of the Ghostbusters as the story progresses. If there were Ghostbusters franchises, then who cares that there's a paranormal outbreak? Just call the local station and play on your phone till they show up to take care of it. It's whatever.

I showed this trailer to two friends yesterday.

The male friend didn't laugh once and said it was nothing like Ghostbusters.

The female friend was laughing constantly and said it looked awesome.

Neither of them are movie-buffs, so maybe they succeeded with the focus-testing.

I know a lot of people that loved Bridesmaids and Trainwreck, I didn't like either so I just don't think this movie is catering to me.

It's laughable, really. All of the hate is either nostalgia or, well, cast related. And what surprises me the most is that so many on GAF are also on this train, I expected different.

So you think literally everyone on GAF who doesn't like the trailer dislikes it because of those reasons and not because it looked like shit?

So far, all I saw is so, so much better than I expected. Can't wait to finally watch this. And I really hope the cast will know how to deal with the 'Ethics in Ghostbusting' audience on social media, damnit.

Not everything is a conspiracy.

Sometimes, a movie just looks plain bad. And this is one of those cases.

Has nothing to do with nostalgia. I don't even have that much nostalgia for the older movies. And I don't see what it has to do with the cast. That's a pretty strong projection right there. People don't hate this movie because the leads are female.

That's like saying I hate Adam Sandler movies because he's male. Most of his recent movies are just as unfunny as this trailer.

Well to be fair, certain elements and decisions of Sandler's films undoubtedly come from a male perspective. :v

I'm amazed that a Metal Gear Solid fan of all people can detect a bad film really.

Not sure if this was posted - here is a rundown of the entire movie from someone who has seen it or claims to have.

This... is honestly not bad at all. I'm kinda sad that I even read this because I feel like I may have gotten the movie spoiled, but this actually sounds pretty good. I think it's accurate for a couple of reasons that I won't get into now, but ya, I like it.

-The backstory for Wiig and McCarthy's characters sounds fantastic.
-I like how the villain
ties into their past.
The criticisms were kinda meaningless too when you consider:

*The person who wrote this admitted to hating the company he's working for.
*Says the movie is badly paced and unfocused, but admits to having watched it intermittently while at work and not really focusing on it.
*Isn't even watching a final version of a film. It's likely the lesser jokes are going to be hitting the cutting room floor by release.
*Clearly had an axe to grind going into watching it in the first place, very annoyed at even the most minute things like the fact that Amazon and Reddit are mentioned.

The only things I legitimately disliked about his description is the
queef joke and the reason the villain takes the final form that he does (which could be chocked up to him not paying attention).
Other than that, this film actually sounds pretty great. I think a lot of this will come down to the execution of the material.

I mostly think it looks bad because, you know.. it looks bad. This looks like it was shot on an iPhone or something. Who the hell is the cinematographer for this? Doesn't have anything to do with digital recording, you can still get a "filmic" look out of that, but they didn't even try.. this is like a fan film or some super low-budget TV show. The original cast wouldn't change the piss-poor visual effects or the overall shitty presentation.

They pushed the connection to the original in the trailer because that's all it has going for it. If you didn't know one thing about Ghostbusters, this trailer would not in any way be enough to make you want to go see it.

This is something everyone on here that is complaining about the trailer for the reboot needs to support. This is an amazing documentary 8 years in the making that goes in-depth behind the scenes of the original 2 Ghostbuster films. If they can reach their stretch goal of £48,000 we all get a 4+ hour "Directors Cut"!!!

That looked cheap and nasty, and I didn't laugh at any of it.

Also the cinematography is awful, won't be much mood, then again 84 New York had grime and character, this looks too clean and bright.

I haven't bothered to read through the pages upon pages of arguing, but I thought the trailer looked alright. I'll probably see it in theaters with my girlfriend. She's a bigger fan of Ghostbusters than me and she seems really excited about this.

Are you involved in this kickstarter? You're very 'enthusiastic' posts seem to suggest a certain desperation to get this funded.

Sorry, but the British pound is really high here in Mexico. 40GBP is almost 4 times the cost of a regular Blu ray here.

One thing in the trailer that looks intact is the look of a Ghostbusters movie. Particularly the bit where the ghost pukes and Wiig is holding her hands up. It's got the same quality the originals have.

Watched Spy for the first time last night, and with this and Bridesmaids I'm starting to think Paul Feig is a tad overrated, and that Melissa McCarthy witnessed him murder someone and has been extorting roles from him ever since.

On the plus side, today I learned he played Tim the formerly fat camp counselor from the movie Heavyweights, so there's that at least.

It really doesn't, it looks like a cheap, fanmade knockoff.

Zero atmosphere, looks closer to the movie pixels than ghost busters.

In spite of all this Melissa McCarthy horse-semen-encrusted-gorilla-excrement we're getting out of him these days, he still gets a lifetime credit for Freaks and Geeks. I really miss that Feig.

I thought SPY might have had a chance if they had a lead actor with an ounce of real charisma or comedic sensibility.

She hasn't made me laugh since Gilmore Gilrs. I genuely liked her in that, but i gues it had more to do with the writing of the show.
