Bernie is plenty liberal. But as we all know, being liberal and being sensitive to race issues is not necessarily the same thing.
Pretty much. Maybe it's because I'm not American but I don't understand the outrage at all. What's so embarrassing about it?
It's Pretty in line with David Harvey's definition of ghettos even if he himself has been moving away from the term recently.

Can someone explain why this is offensive to black people to me? He's not saying all black Are poor. If anything to me it sounds like a statement that should be offensive to poor white people since it's ignoring that they are a group that exists

Exactly. There is a good reason to be offended by this, as well as his comment on mental health and Minnesota being "smart" compared to where he lost.

Yeah, I'm seriously befuddled.
But whatever helps my queen is awesome, she can do no wrong. Bernie should drop out. His supporters should join the Queen after.
I'm fine with the politicians we get and incrementally working toward change, since this way actually nets results and has for years. I'm patient.
And I'm also fine not nominating people like Bernie, who isn't even some particularly above the fray candidate or special in any way. He's just propped up to be that way by his supporters.

Heard the quote on Morning Edition when they recapped the debate and it irked me. Was wondering if there was any traction on it and I guess there was.
He said it last night then went out to make the "ghetto" remark. He is always going on about his record, so I am discussing it.
Is this a significant number of Democratic primary voters? I'd be surprised.
It reinforces a negative stereotype for sure, which is disappointing. Here in Maryland for instance we have plenty of AA communities that are affluent and not ghettos.

My wording was horrible, but I hope you understand that I meant the term was created because of what the nazis did to the Jews in Europe, not America. I may not be the brightest guy, but I'm not so dim as to believe ghettos were invented in the US.

Sounds like he's actually being super sensible and putting on the table that there's a lot of black communities which are socially and economically segregated both due to horrible city planning and garbage housing projects.

I wasn't looking for him to clarify his definition of the word "ghetto". I was looking for him to clarify what he meant about white people not knowing what it meant to be poor.
I'll be sure to let my white neighbors know they aren't really poor I'm sure they will be thrilled with the news.

He equivocated "African American communities" and "ghettos". You don't see a problem with that?
Sanders hasn't made in-roads among black voters, while he has made sizable increases in his poll numbers among all other groups. I don't think most of those voters are undecided.

As I have said many times before, the fact that Killer Mike is able to go up to bat for Bernie, while commendable, is getting grating to the point where I feel he has lost touch with reality.
