I thought the same at first. But the guy never attacked me when I went roque or when I called in a evac. He just carried on following me around helping out.
You can still play but it is designed to be played socially.
On the psychical perimeter of missions it prompts when you can join another group to do the mission. It's really smooth. Then when you're done you can solo again.
I've done that a few times whilst waiting for friends.
Maybe Enter/Return?
You can run around the building where you do the Precinct mission. Behind the building is a fence and a gate that will say something about going to Manhattan. I did something similar myself by leaving a group before opening the door.
Like I said, just kind of skirt around the building and you'll find it.

It can be fixed! Happened to me.
Look on the map. Head for the top left of it. You are trying to get to the green highlighted ferry area. You will have to open some grey gates to get there.
Once you open the final gate to the ferry area, the cutscene will start and you will move to the main area.

Went into a level 15 zone yesterday (the area above Times Square), and was actually caught off guard by the NPC's and how many of them there were in this area. I got surrounded trying to get to the safe house, and killed pretty quikcly. It was awesome!
Was used to just running through the streets without issue past enemy mobs, so it was nice to have a challenge like that for a change.
Plan on hitting level 20 this weekend, and then getting to the bottom portion of the map. Curious to see what challenges await down undah!

finish side quests for crafting recipies or the encounters for base resources. I can't imagine you got 100% base activation at 26 while mainlining story missions.

That happened to me too. The cut scene fails to kick in sometimes.
You can kick it off by walking towards the the north west section of the compound you reach after passing through the two gates.

Got to level 10 last night (yeah, leisurely pace but whatever I'm fucking loving the game) and went into the dark zone for the first time as a lone wolf. Got my ass handed to me on extraction, but wow what a fun time. I can't wait to get into it more, maybe with some better gear XD

I do Destiny sometimes ( i know, i know....) and I'm ok with multiplayer with randoms in that and it sounds a lot smoother in The Division.
Have you completed the game? There's an end-game quest in chesea. I don't know if you need to complete it for the perk to work. All I know is my perk functioned there.

I know you can't play in the Dark Zone.

But that doesnt sound right to me, there are maybe 2-3 missions before you reach BOO and after that its 5 missions per wing. So I cant quite get the 26 main missions thing.

I just solved a problem with my missions. I started one mission with a friend but didn't finish it(Find "Judy so and so") in Hell's Kitchen. The mission disappeared on my map completely. So I couldn't finish all of the missions for the Canine Unit (which shows you the locations of the collectibles).
I joined a different friend's game and finished the mission on his server, the canine unit worked it's magic right away. There is NO WAY right now to finish the mission on your own map if you started it on a different map. (It will probably get fixed).

I'm fully expecting the story to involve cloning people being the cause of the outbreak at this point.

So is the checkpoint system broken for mission or does it just not exist?
I got disconnected at the end of the napalm mission (on hard no less) and then when I reconnected it brought me to a safe house and when going back to the mission it's back to the start.
I've been disconnected 4 times this morning. I can't play this game if this is keeps happening. That's about an hour of progress gone on a damn hard mission.
Hate is rising.

I thought so as well, but even after that mission I still don't see the intel on the map.
Edit: I figured it out. Looks like I never talked to the JTF Officer at the starting hub. 4 more side missions to do I guess.
Sorry, you're right. Brain fart - thought there were four wings. I'd say you're right. 26 main missions does sound high.

Getting booted from the servers at the end of a mission, while playing solo mind you, and coming back to find you need to start again from the beginning is so unbelievably frustrating.

Went into the DZ with a few guys from New Zealand I met in a hard mission through matchmaking. We ended up spending 2 hours in there just having a blast. Some of the most fun I have had in gaming and these 2 guys were just awesome to run with . DZ rank went up from 1 to 13.

So is this really a thing? Because I'm seriously considering returning this if it continues. Fuck this.
It's perfect for me. The open world is great by yourself, but when you do missions it's worth matchmaking with others on Hard mode.
Matchmaking with randoms for co-op is seamless and in my experience they don't break the immersion. It's just like playing solo but with a bit more energy.
Singleplayer missions are still OK solo, but the gameplay really shines on Hard and on co-op.
I deconstruct. I treat it was a loot game which means drops will always be better than shop gear*.
Or, as is tradition, you blow all your money on a brand new item and then a better version drops minutes later.
*You can upgrade one the wings to get advanced shops.

yeah, I see Shops as more of a stopgap filler.
like you haven't found a gun for your Level yet so you just quickly get one.

Hm, they say it's basically a perfectly smooth 30fps experience throughout, but I had at least one occasion where I had the game going to 20fps or so in an intense fight with lots of flame throwing.

He's quite far back in the base. Go right at the rewards vendor.
We did the power plant on challenge mode yesterday, took us like two hours.
Some pretty solid stuff in shops tbh.
