Massive ongoing protest in Chicago makes Trump "postpone" his event

Blue-collar dems are the voters that might lean towards Trump. Those conservative or so called conservative democrats just may vote for Trump. He can win Florida, Arizona, Nevada, the Virginia's and a Carolina.

You have to remember that the narrative from Republicans is that the reason McCain and Romney lost is that they weren't right wing enough. Now we'll find out if they were right.

That is an extremely generous reading of that statement considering the "model we should strive for" ending to it. It smacks of the typical "this is how you should be protesting" idea that needs to be abandoned.

I don't mean to attack Hilary or Clinton supporters in pointing this out but it's just a subconscious reaction that even a lot of liberal progressives have when they see what they feel are brown people acting in ways that feed stereotypes. It's a waste of time, the people that believe those types of stereotypes are still going to believe them anyway and are not going to change their minds since any action by brown people are inherently abhorrent. Even people sitting silently in protest are frightening to them apparently.
 
I guess this is related, but here at UIUC, Bernie is having a rally right now. They announced it about 48 hours ago. I'm in line right now and it is about 4 city blocks long. Capacity for the venue is maybe 3,000 people. There are way, way more people here than that still in line not including those already inside. This is in a town of about 180,000.

I think some people really fail to underestimate how involved the American electorate is in politics. They will watch the GE debates next autumn and make their decisions then. Most people have the memory of a goldfish, the reason why majority of Americans trust Republicans to be better in foreign policy (after what has happened in the past 15 years or so).

The reason is those elections were held in midterms when no one votes. Presidential turnout is always much higher, with or without Obama (who by the way will be stumping hard for whoever the Democrat is).

Minorities, single women and the youth (the key components of Obama's winning coalition) will turn out hard against Trump.

But the thing about Hillary is we already know her shit. They've been flinging it at her for decades. Trump can do what he wants, and yeah I hope she takes it seriously, but it'll be airing reruns.

Bernie on the other, has not been vetted. And as we saw in the last debate, he DOES have shit.

As if Donald "Mexicans are rapists" Trump doesn't have far higher negatives than her. The GE is different from a primary where racists are trying to make the man the GOP nominee.

Has she really though? I mean if she had a mountain of shit to sling, why are Benghazi and Emails the only two things the GOP keeps harping on? It leads me to believe that she's been vetted so much throughout her entire life that there's actually nothing left that hasn't already been unturned here, and "grasping at straws" is all the GOP has left.

It all depends. Obama was a likable person and a good campaigner. He was able to attract lots of voters both in 08 and 2012. I doubt Hillary will be able to repeat that feat.

Just look at the numbers in this primary season. Republicans are breaking previous numbers left and right while progressives seem to be somewhat apathetic. Obviously Trump would be a huge underdog next autumn but he is also an unknown....We haven't seen a person like this in previous election cycles.

No its not. Bernie specifically said we're not gonna hate Muslims, or Mexicans etc. Hillary's response is random as fuck and barely has to do with anything. Like what does Charleston have to do with what happened in Chicago ladt night?

She won't win every state. But if Trump's the opposition, I believe she can get Texas. They've been reddish-purple for a while now and this election might be enough to tick them over into full on purple. I don't think Trump inspires more bigots to vote than keeping the black man from getting a second term did. I do think he will inspire establishment Repubs to stay home and less enthusiastic Dems to vote. I also think he'll fire up more disgusted independents than independents that agree with him.

Ultimately, I don't think it will necessarily hapoen, but I do think it's within the realm of possibility.

Honestly I think they have more but their too busy dealing with so many other problems they haven't had the chance. Everyone years ago figured Hillary was the expect Democractic Party candidate, there's no way the GOP didn't have people sit around creating a bunch of stuff to fling at Hillary. They've been at it too long for this to have ever been all they had.

The defense offered by Clinton supporters is that none of these issues actually amount to anything once you look at them carefully. But this is completely irrelevant; all that matters is the fodder they would provide for the Trump machine. Who is going to be looking carefully? In the time you spend trying to clear up the basic facts of Whitewater, Trump will have made five more allegations.

Even a skilled campaigner would have a very difficult time parrying such endless attacks by Trump. Even the best campaigner would find it impossible to draw attention back to actual substantive policy issues, and would spend their every moment on the defensive. But Hillary Clinton is neither the best campaigner nor even a skilled one. In fact, she is a dreadful campaigner. She may be a skilled policymaker, but on the campaign trail she makes constant missteps and never realizes things have gone wrong until it’s too late.

Everyone knows this. Even among Democratic party operatives, she’s acknowledged as “awkward and uninspiring on the stump,” carrying “Bill’s baggage with none of Bill’s warmth.” New York magazine described her “failing to demonstrate the most elementary political skills, much less those learned at Toastmasters or Dale Carnegie.” Last year the White House was panicking at her levels of electoral incompetence, her questionable decisionmaking, and her inclination for taking sleazy shortcuts. More recently, noting Sanders’s catch-up in the polls, The Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin said that she was a “rotten candidate” whose attacks on Sanders made no sense, and that “at some point, you cannot blame the national mood or a poor staff or a brilliant opponent for Hillary Clinton’s campaign woes.” Yet in a race against Trump, Hillary will be handicapped not only by her feeble campaigning skills, but the fact that she will have a sour national mood, a poor staff, and a brilliant opponent.

Every Democrat should take some time to fairly, dispassionately examine Clinton’s track record as a campaigner. Study how the ‘08 campaign was handled, and how this one has gone. Assess her strengths and weaknesses with as little bias or prejudice as possible. Then picture the race against Trump, and think about how it will unfold.

It’s easy to see that Trump has every single advantage. Because the Republican primary will be over, he can come at her from both right and left as he pleases. As the candidate who thundered against the Iraq War at the Republican debate, he can taunt Clinton over her support for it. He will paint her as a member of the corrupt political establishment, and will even offer proof: “Well, I know you can buy politicians, because I bought Senator Clinton. I gave her money, she came to my wedding.” He can make it appear that Hillary Clinton can be bought, that he can’t, and that he is in charge. It’s also hard to defend against, because it appears to be partly true. Any denial looks like a lie, thus making Hillary’s situation look even worse. And then, when she stumbles, he will mock her as incompetent.

Charges of misogyny against Trump won’t work. He is going to fill the press with the rape and harassment allegations against Bill Clinton and Hillary’s role in discrediting the victims (something that made even Lena Dunham deeply queasy.) He can always remind people that Hillary Clinton referred to Monica Lewinsky as a “narcissistic loony toon.” Furthermore, since Trump is not an anti-Planned Parenthood zealot (being the only one willing to stick up for women’s health in a room full of Republicans), it will be hard for Clinton to paint him as the usual anti-feminist right-winger.

Trump will capitalize on his reputation as a truth-teller, and be vicious about both Clinton’s sudden changes of position (e.g. the switch on gay marriage, plus the affected economic populism of her run against Sanders) and her perceived dishonesty. One can already imagine the monologue:

“She lies so much. Everything she says is a lie. I’ve never seen someone who lies so much in my life. Let me tell you three lies she’s told. She made up a story about how she was ducking sniper fire! There was no sniper fire. She made it up! How do you forget a thing like that? She said she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary, the guy who climbed Mount Everest. He hadn’t even climbed it when she was born! Total lie! She lied about the emails, of course, as we all know, and is probably going to be indicted. You know she said there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq! It was a lie! Thousands of American soldiers are dead because of her. Not only does she lie, her lies kill people. That’s four lies, I said I’d give you three. You can’t even count them. You want to go on PolitiFact, see how many lies she has? It takes you an hour to read them all! In fact, they ask her, she doesn’t even say she hasn’t lied. They asked her straight up, she says she usually tries to tell the truth! Ooooh, she tries! Come on! This is a person, every single word out of her mouth is a lie. Nobody trusts her. Check the polls, nobody trusts her. Yuge liar.”

Where does she even begin to respond to this? Some of it’s true, some of it isn’t, but the more she tries to defensively parse it (“There’s been no suggestion I’m going to be indicted! And I didn’t say I usually tried to tell the truth, I said I always tried and usually succeeded”) the deeper she sinks into the hole.

Trump will bob, weave, jab, and hook. He won’t let up. And because Clinton actually has lied, and actually did vote for the Iraq War, and actually is hyper-cosy with Wall Street, and actually does change her positions based on expediency, all she can do is issue further implausible denials, which will further embolden Trump. Nor does she have a single offensive weapon at her disposal, since every legitimate criticism of Trump’s background (inconsistent political positions, shady financial dealings, pattern of deception) is equally applicable to Clinton, and he knows how to make such things slide off him, whereas she does not.

I think Hillary's lack of enthusiasm is a much bigger issue against someone like Kasich though. Trump alone should be a big enough deterrent to get Obama's coalition out to vote.
 
I'm predicting it now, Trump is our next President. The Democrats can't agree on a good candidate, and they both are off-putting in their own ways to swing voters. The Republican turnout will be amazing and everyone will fall in line by November. The alarming thing is all the Dems switching sides just for this idiot.

You know the really amazing thing about this whole thing in the Republican party....

Usually it is the Republican party base accusing everyone of being "politically correct" and "SJW".

Now look at the shoe being on the other foot in their own party! They are themselves being accused by Trump supporters of being too "PC" and "SJW".

Why? Because suddenly the Republican elite are accusing Trump of being partly responsible for the ridiculous things going on within his rallies. And it is true he is partly to blame, but if you subscribe to calling people "PC" and "SJW" then that's the type of people supporting Trump's fascism to hate on everyone else.

Not surprising coming from the Trump supporters, and just more confirmation that terms like "PC" and "SJW" are just buzz words and dog-whistle politics to say "hate on this person, we don't agree with them, don't listen to what they have to say at all!"

I guess that's why all of that Republican base now supports Trump.

We all have FOX News and their ilk to thank for this, and of course the Republican party itself, particularly the Tea Party goers.

Republicans are a long way from guys like Colin Powell and even John McCain.

What's worse though is that any reasonable person saw this slow (actually, quite rapid) degradation of their party from miles away.

And yet, here we are still harping on Benghazi and emails. Do you think this secret GOP think tank who has amassed a mountain of new, never-before-heard negatives about Hillary are going to hand that over to Trump to attempt to use in the general? If they had these secret negatives about Hillary, we would have heard about them by now. I don't buy the "GOP is too busy to attack Hillary with their mountain of secret scandals" idea.

There are superpacs on the right whose sole purpose is to attack the left, regardless of what's going on in the Republican party. The RNC collapsing has not stopped them from filing suing Hillary this week for her emails, for example, because every day it looks like the FBI investigation is going to net them nothing. Which is a pretty desperate attempt to drag that out.

I mean, you could be right. But if the RNC had anything of any significance on Hillary at this point, I think we'd have seen it by now.
