You can't explain it to someone who wasn't feeling it too. All my younger cousin cared about was the Fallout 4 stuff and had none of the same context or interests to know why the rapid succession of "I can't believe it's real" stuff like Last Guardian, FF7 remake and Shenmue III was so resonant with me. Difference is, my cuz wasn't like "oh my word, why I never" while I caught the holy ghost about it. When I saw GT's reaction to it later I was like "ha, exactly"

Looking forward to Daminai working with the Ex-GT guys once more.

Though unlike some here I doubt his show will be Pop Fiction 2.0 and I actually hope it's something new.
POP Fiction was fun but there really aren't that many gaming mysteries and urban legends and I feel like they covered most of the popular and well known ones during the original run.

To be fair it's not like they were jumping and going crazy over every announement.
Schenmue is one of Huber's (the guy jumping) favorite franchises and Shenmue 3 was like his dream announcement. It was like an ongoing thing if you followed their content. When they talked about things they'd love to see at E3, Huber was allways talking about Shenmue. Huber and Bosman had a show called final bets were they would make bets about what was going to happen on E3, and his final bet, which was ment to be this crazy blind bet with little to no chance of happening, was Schenmue 3 for as long as I can remember watching the show.
So yeah it's representative of them, but you should see it as the reaction of a guy seeing his dream gaming announcemt being shown and not just them overhyping every announcement

Still need to see if they can hold it steady at 20k for a while. I'll be very pleasantly surprised if they can get Damiani in. Hopefully he can join in for E3.
 
The great thing about Patreon is it opens doors to other opportunities.

I forget where, but Colin from KF was talking about how Patreon is not remotely close to their only income, when you factor in YouTube money, twitch money, sponsorships, etc.

Getting good Patreon numbers is great to start but I'm excited to see if this can snowball into something bigger.

afaik, he is in, this is just an extra for him to do, he is in the teaser of the announcement video and the EZA crew has been in talks with him

A bit of context to that E3 moment. Shenmue 3 was the dream announcement for Mike Huber, the guy jumping around. It's one of his favorite franchises, and to quote the GT crew, he thinks about it every day and would occasionally just look sad and would reply with "Shenmue 3" when asked the reason why.
Kyle Bosman had been hoping for TLG at almost every major event for the past few years, and he did a couple of videos on FF7 prior to E3.

Huber and Kyle also tend to do bets around major press events like E3, TGS and PSX. Last E3 their big bets were for/against TLG, FF7 remake and Shenmue 3. This was the culmination of all of their bets coming true, not to mention they were still riding the high from FF7 and TLG.

So if they look overly excited, well, it's because they actually were that excited. So many incredible things came together. It was the perfect storm of announcements.

So while you don't need to fear yelling and crying and people losing their shit and perching themselves on their chairs about every announcement, it should be said they are generally exciteable regarding good news. Especially Huber.

It'll need to snowball into something huge to support 7(8?) people full-time.

That said, I can imagine that a couple of them at least will be picked up by a bigger fish before they ever reach that stage. A lot of talent there.

If that is true, The Kinda Funny crew must be doing pretty well. Easy Allies will have to do far better as they'll have a larger overall staff to support.

Yea it would.

If this amount continues after a couple of months I can see them adopting a similar content system to Giant Bomb but based on Patreon rather than their own sub system.

Yup, I didn't always agree with their scores, but their actual analysis was really good IMO. Was very informative and they were really good about avoiding anything spoilerish.
 
Pledged. The only think I don't think is sound about their plan is the return of reviews. It's a terribly outdated format and it's extremely time consuming. I just hope blood will assign games to play to the staff for a long-form unchained critical discussion in front of the camera, eventually alongside a written review. If they plan to keep reviewing everything that comes out in GT fashion, ben is going to die...

I think it will only be the biggest games/passion projects. Games that they would have played anyway and possibly much more lax on the date they upload it.

And Shenmue is probably my favorite game of all time, along with Silent Hill 2, so I was totally with Huber there.

No, Brandon said on Kinda Funny that reviews would be this big goal because they wouldn't want to review just a couple of games, they would want to review at least as many games as they did at GT.

Don't forget that Damiani is back on board, so that's an extra reviewer on top of the guys they already had.

Fair enough. But that would also mean Ben and a few others (Ian for editing?) being full time. Not that I object.

Of course it probably depends a lot on where the patreon ends up.
 
jebus how hard would it be for twitch to actually realize that timezones exist and make it possible for channels to make an actual schedule, so i don't have to sit here and guess when things start..
 
The 12 hours stream it's going to be crucial if they're really aiming to that 50k. Today they'll have people that haven't followed them for years (If ever). They need to make clear how everything it's going to work and appeal to the viewers by demoing the way they used to run everything.

Pretty sure this 12h stream will not just be them playing games. They'll probably catch up in news and trailers since their GT departure. Or I Hope so.

Woke up to 5 emails from Patreon about them reaching their goals. Exciting!

I wonder if Patreons tend to grow or shrink over time. I've seen some people say they're only pledging a big amount right now to help them at first, but I wonder if adjustments like that are enough to overcome people discovering the group and becoming new Patrons.

What do you mean? They have times and a timezone of where they are.
