Dark Souls III in English is now available on the Xbox One after buying on JP store

Meh, was gonna go thru doing this but w the trouble of finding a JP address and not being able to play online, I think I'll just wait.

Godspeed to the early people.

Some questions..
1. For anyone that does this will we be getting patches from Japan or just the normal US patches as if we just had a normal US copy?
XB1 is 100% region free, there's no country distinction only different language packs. So if you buy a game from Germany and play the US version you'll have all the US patches that you'd get if you bought a physical US copy.
2. Will buying the season pass/DLC from the US store work fine with this version?
Unlike with PSN, the marketplace itself is also region free. You can buy and mix from any marketplace you want. You can buy a physical pal copy and buy dlc from a NTSC region without any issues.

I've done this since the launch of the console in 2013 and never had a problem.

Yeah, tried that too. Says I'm not in JP and the screen where you can put a JP address that pops up doesn't have japan as a country...

Already posted how to fix this but here it is again.

Goto your Amazon.co.jp account and click the manage address book option, then add a japanese address. Once you add one then you can pick it from that drop down box it gives you.

Really? So, it's just buying the US version basically? Sounds too good to be true lol.

Yea, that's how Microsoft's account and marketplace system has worked since Xbox one launch as far as I'm aware. You buy one version, you get them all.

Does the Xbox Version mention Namco Bandai in the start up splash screens?
If so...

IRONYYYYYY...

Yea

At first I didn't really react but then I thought "Oh shit, does this mean.." and then I saw it was English. I wonder who I gave money to. FROM or Namco? This is a mess lol.

Yes, and it redefined the meaning of region free on consoles for me.

You buy the license for the game, whichever version you then want is up to you.

Awesome.

What's up with the no online, though?

Not being able to play online makes me want to stick with the JPN version for the time being. Seeing the bloodstains and ghosts really enhances the experience for me.

Mobile is your best friend. Buy cards from Play-Asia.com, I have no idea because I'm not at home and haven't tried it myself.

I bought ¥8,000 from Play-Asia for PSN. They have XBL credit.

Is there any better guide on how to do this? Amazon.co.jp just hangs on the credit card verification and I have no idea what the japanese Xbox site wants from me :(((

It won't, fixing it requires MS to change how their account and store system work, AND NBGI will have to push another build to separate them.
That, and it's been working like this for the past 2 and a half years now.

If MS wanted this fixed, they'd have already done so.

now i get this after I bought a card from amazon

Sorry, processing is taking longer than expected.
Please do not reorder this item.
Game and Software downloads go through extra verification that may take up to 4 hours. This process is in place to prevent unauthorized orders on your account.

Because patch 1.01 hasn't come out for the US version yet (since it's not supposed to be out for a few weeks). Patch 1.01 enables online play.

Namco is in charge of the servers for the Western version. They haven't put them up yet or you need to be whitelisted to play. (for journalists etc)

Or maybe this.

Thanks guys, I don't do co-op for first playthrough anyways.

Did you do it?

Trying to figure out how to fill in the address boxes lol

Yeah I'm having a lot of trouble filling out the Japanese address/paypal stuff. Can anyone post a walkthrough of that? I am using the google translate app but I just don't understand how JPN postal codes and such work.

Would anyone know if DS3 happens to have a streaming embargo? I know some Twitch streamers are showing off the PC version right now but I suspect they're pre-approved by Bandai Namco. I'm thinking about picking it up on Xbone and might try broadcasting it if you are allowed (first time playing a Dark Souls game).

It went through like 10 minutes later for me.

Should be possible, the game is released in Japan, and is published by From and not NamcoBandai, so you are not bound to NDA or embargos anymore.

You'll get an email from Amazon.co.jp saying the order went through, the page might also say it needs a bit longer to verify. Mine took 1.5 hours I believe from ordering til I got the code.

What a cluster fuck Namco. Streamers get the western version 3 weeks early to stream. And now this. Way to kill the mystique of the game.

Please for the love of all that is good, quit with these pointless staggered releases. 3 week media blackout for me. Thank god Lobos ain't streaming it till april.

I managed to finish a transaction on the Microsoft store using the address provided by this thread:

https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkSouls3..._japanese_version_be_released_for_ps4/d0l63ga

Unfortunately, I'm still waiting to see if they will accept my paypal payment. The site says that it may take up to four hours to complete.

I'm ready to pay but scared paypal will freeze my account or do some of their random shit because I've never paid internationally with it lol. Had the account for years, though.

This is pretty fascinating. So if a similar situation happens again (early Japanese release) theoretically this method should work again? Or is there something unique about Dark Souls III?

Also what would happen if only a JP version (non-localized) was available?
