Dark Souls III in English is now available on the Xbox One after buying on JP store

damn, I 'm sorry. Perhaps play asia or some place will get more codes.

No, I mean I was able to purchase everything just fine. Unless they shut it down within that short window, but I have my doubts. As far as I know, Microsoft isn't going to give a shit about whether or not people want to go through these hoops, and they're certainly not going to run out of digital fake money.

There's text on the page for the codes that makes it look like they're sold out now... maybe the party is over..

It said that when I bought my codes hours ago. Still worked.

Has anyone unlocked achievements yet? Wondering if this will cause completion issues when the game is actually released.

Looks like 24 tracked gamers on TA have unlocked at least one achievement, but I guess those could be official review copies.

I'm unlocking achivements but getting no in-game notifications when I do. They're definitely unlocked when I check the game's hub though.

Fuck my life do you need to use PayPal or is just my card cool because PayPal has been having problems

You need PayPal. If you use a card it will try to bill the fake Japanese address and reject. You can't put your real address on the checkout page. PayPal, however, doesn't give a fuck after its linked to your account

My game started auto downloading right away. I switched back to US asap but I have japanese text. Can I still download the english version?? How would I have avoided the auto download start?

You just stop the download, uninstall the game, switch your Xbox to US region and reinstall.

I got home and the game was already installed english version!!! let see if MS leaves this intact, if they do anything to it I swear I will just get it for ps4, just the hoops you have to go trough including a language you dont know was a hassle.

Mine didn't start downloading until I came home, checked my library and there it was. I remember putting in my Halo 5 key and it auto downloaded, but since I just simply bought it and it was tied to my account, then I'd have to tell it to do so. I have no idea to be honest. I'm almost thinking I'm wrong because normally it would auto-download, it even says that after you confirm your purchase. Unless of course I'm wrong and I just didn't realize it.

This is what I got when I booted up the Xbox, all English. Thank you everyone who helped me.

So is anybody here going to disconnect their XB1 from going online until launch, in case Microsoft decide to revoke licences?

Also, do we have any evidence that they might start doing this, other than IGN saying so? It's not like they cited a source. Considering staff at Microsoft have Tweeted this, that suggests Microsoft may not care.

Also, is it 100% confirmed that online play isn't possible anyway? If not, then I see no reason not to disconnect, just in case.

...And?

You still paid for the Japanese version with that $71.15.

It's the full localized version. You realize that right? And it wasn't the full 71.15. I have to imagine that the people who were willing to do this will find a way to spend the leftover money.

Personally I would just to be safe. Id be very paranoid.

I remember getting Dark Souls 1 on the 360 two weeks early because a good friend of mine woke in a GameStop. I disconnected my 360 until released day, didn't wanna risk it.

Klepek talked to MS reps about this

Some players have worried Microsoft will ban folks who are taking advange of this loophole. Here’s what a Microsoft spokesperson told me:

“Although Xbox One games are not region locked, which means there are no technical limitations that would prevent them from being used in any country, Microsoft does not condone importing Xbox One games outside of official launch markets.”

Uh huh.

You can breathe easy, however. I asked around, and was told Microsoft has no interest in punishing diehard fans who buy Dark Souls 3. Praise the sun.

IGN didn't say that you should be worried about playing, they were saying that you should be worried about buying. Don't buy a bunch of yen only to find out that you can't buy the game.

No way Im going to stop playing Halo 5 over this, I took this risk, and while it would be shity for MS to do something of the sort, I was prepared for consequences on Getting the game before its actual release date.

If they shut the loophole, I doubt it'd be because of this. More due to people buying from other regions at a much cheaper price.

If anything people are actually paying more to play it now, since Japanese games tend to be more expensive.

True, but the money goes to different people. I believe Namco Bandai won't see it, as they don't publish the game in Japan. That could ruffle their feathers somewhat.

But hopefully they'll realise they shouldn't have made us wait an extra three bloody weeks.

Maybe, but I'm not sure doing this will affect sales that much.

1. I'd imagine most souls fans probably went PS4 over Xbox One just due to Bloodborne.
2. It's a lot of effort just to play earlier. Not to mention you pay a bit more.
3. You have to buy the Xbox One version, which is likely going to be the worst version. (Jaspanese developers aren't exactly renowned for Xbox development)

I do own an Xbox One, but I'm just perfectly fine waiting for the PC version. :P

I unlocked 3 or 4 achievements now and my microsoft store shows it as purchased. I don't see how this can cause problems when everything is under 1 account.

It's 100% legal and the patch wasn't released yet for online play anyways.

Actually not that bad. I have some yen left over, so I'm actually only spending a couple bucks more to play it 3 weeks early. Fair trade.

I imagine that a lot of people that have an xbox one on here also have all the systems.I have all systems because of moments like this when I unexpectedly am glad as hell that I own an xbone. I also have it preordered on PC and I'll most likely get the ps4 version when it's under 30 bucks in a year if the pc version has too many cheaters.

This cost me £50. Quite a fair bit more than the £30 I pre-ordered the PC version for, but I'm OK with that. My girlrfriend is going away for a week in a few days, and I was really pissed that I'd miss out an uninterrupted whole week to play it due to it releasing later here. Now I get to have that full week of just being able to play with no other concerns or responsibilities. That's worth the price hike to me.

Well, in that case, they aren't really losing a sale anyway, since you're already buying more versions. ^^ (Though I imagine you may be referring to that)

I'm excited for the game, but I've got so much to play at the moment, I'm fine waiting.

It's kind of scary when you see a ton of people that confuse corporate policy for federal or state law. I've been seeing this for a long time.

This is exactly why I bought it early. Worth paying extra to play it over Easter when I have the time.

Ok, there seems to be a lot of confusion on how to actually buy codes and redeem it, so I thought I should do a handy guide for those so eager to play Dark Souls III (ie: everyone here).

You can buy codes from amazon.jp, Microsoft Store or Play Asia. The guide will be focused on Microsoft Store, which is the way I used and it worked flawlessly.

Since the game costs a bit more than 7000 yen, so I'll be using as an example the 5000 yen code and the 3000 yen code.

First of all, sign in with your microsoft account. You can use your own or create a dummy account.

cmghio.jpg

Here's the link to the 5000 yen code. Press the green button to add it to your cart

Do the same thing when adding the 3000 yen code

Cool, both codes were added to your cart, now click on it

Press the green button again to start the purchase process

Select the second option to purchase with your Microsoft Account

Choose Paypal and add the required info. I don't have a proper japan address right now so if anyone would be so kind providing me one, it would be really helpful.

Warning: Paypal might take a few minutes or hours to clear the transaction. It will show pending for a while if you check your paypal account. As soon as its approved, you'll get an e-mail with the codes

Congrats! You just bought the codes! Now to redeem it. Here's the link for the code redemption page (already set to japan)

Both redeemed? Awesome, now head to Dark Souls III on the japanese store and buy the damn thing

I'm sure you'll see your xbox balance, select it and press the green button.

Warning number 2: Some people had issues doing it on Chrome or other browsers, I had to use Microsoft Edge for it to work. Now all you need is to boot up your Xbox One, make sure is in english and download it.

Enjoy Dark Souls III

PS: English isn't my first language, sorry for any weird sentences, I hope this helps!

I assume this purchase from the Japanese store didn't include the Dark Souls 1 pre-order bonus?

I really don't know, because now on my Xbox on my UK account the game's store page has recognised me as having bought it (which it didn't before). For all intents and purposes we own it via our respective regions' stores. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if a DS1 code appears in our messages.

...And?

You still paid for the Japanese version with that $71.15.

It is region free, same as any other Xbox One game (outside of China) and it costs about $66 actually. You can log into any region you want and download and it'll change to whatever language version you want.

Luckily I had random cash in my paypal. Always a good thing.
