Dark Souls III [Import OT] Kindle the fire, one last time

Ok this boss is special, you know it's special when you've died about 15 times to it but you're not frustrated at all. It's an amazing fight, comfortably one of the best in the whole series i think.

and that music, laaaawd.

4th boss spoilers:
Farrom's Undead Legion

I love that he/them aren't super human and you can stagger them quite easily, certainly makes it feel fairer, even if he is kicking my head in.

I loved the area preceding it as well and that's a first for a Blightown-ish place.

I just climbed to the top of a tower and could see every area i've been to in the game so far, plus some i'm sure i'll go to soon. That Dark Souls feeling, still firmly on course to be the best game in the series.

Covenant question:
How does Farrom's Watchdogs work?

No problem, glad to help fellow unkindled. As for the key:
it apparently opens the door at the top of Firelink Shrine. From the entrance, take the right stairs and then exit from the right and keep going up the stairs
. There, you will apparently find
the crow which will trade shiny things.
. I can't confirm as I have not bought the key.

thanks I'll try it!

one more question, this relates to approx. the 5th boss I think. I beat
abyss watchers and the area continued on to this evil catacombs type area. someone mentioned needing a "doll" somewhere around here. what am I missing?

So I'm sure it's been asked in this thread before I'm too much of a lazy ass to search through so here goes.

(i) How's the performance on the PS4 version?

(ii) Is the Dragon Covenant in this game? [The answer should most definitely be spoiler-tagged]

I'm rolling a Dex/Faith build on my main character. The problem is, offensive miracles are
hard to come by, at least at the start. I haven't found any
. The first miracle vendor
is accessible after the second boss fight and only sells healing miracles.

As for the Lightning miracles (covenant spoilers),
I at least found the Sunbros. Hopefully they can provide the zzzzap.

Keep me updated on whether they provide the zap or not. I get the feeling Faith builds are going to be the most annoying to get going early on. :|

Huge?
No.

Resolution and frame rate differences. Sure.
Other than that it's the same.

Hyperbole much?

They're pretty huge. That being said, I own the game on Xbox and have no problem playing it there. It's certainly playable, but there are times where the framerate can drop so low that it turns into a slideshow for a few seconds. I haven't seen this happen as much on PS4 (while watching my friend play and on streams), although it certainly still happens. That plus the 30% less pixels rendered is huge in my opinion.

I'll probably finish my Xbox One playthrough and then put it aside until the PC version releases in a few weeks since I still have that one pre-ordered. But for anyone even remotely sensitive to framerate issues (both drops and pacing) it's a pretty big issue.

Am I the only one who got mega fucking lost in the first area after firelink, and still can't figure out an obvious shortcut to the first boss?
So many parts of this area look familiar to each other. Not loving this area. Not finding it difficult, just getting lost. And not really in a fun way.

I have a ring that makes my
rolls smokey and transparent.

wtf does it actually do?

god I hate this not understanding text stuff

also... for once.. where the ****FUUUCKK*** do I find what are presumably large titanite shards? I have all manner of upgrade materials but I can't upgrade a weapon past +3

That ring existed in DS2 and was mainly used in PvP as a confusion tactic. I don't think it worked on AI enemies at all.

Well I appreciate your opinion of the resolution difference being "huge", but I'll stick with Digital Foundry's analysis of 900p.
Digital Foundry said:
The upscale from 900p doesn't dampen the experience to any tangible degree

But I didn't say the resolution alone made it a huge deal. It doesn't. It's a combination of the resolution being lower and the frame rate being awful. If you aren't sensitive to that kind of stuff then you won't have any problems with it. It's still a great game (much much better than DkS2) even on Xbox One, but I'm certainly looking forward to playing it on PC.

To be honest, Bloodborne's God awful frame pacing issues definitely cheapened the experience for me... And PC isn't really an option as I doubt my aging GTX650TI boost will run the game any better than either my Xbox or PS4...

Insult to injury, PC neither has Xbox Achievements nor PS Trophies... Which are both (in my opinion) 30% more desirable than Steam Achievements.

Is the ring one of these? http://darksouls3-jp.wiki.fextralife.com/指輪

If not, if you can take a screenshot or a photo of its text, I can try and translate what the ring does!

Large Titanite Shards:
Those crystal dragons drop them. There is one in the very beginning area, to the right I believe.

large titanite shards must not be what takes your weapon past +3, then, because I've killed multiple of those big lizards and gotten their drops

anyway the ring is this. equipping this ring makes my rolls smoky.

Near Firelink entrance, there's a path to the left that leads to the ninja that holds it, I hope you leveled a few levels or you gonna suffer

Cheese Mode for ninja at Firelink
Draw him to the entrance of Firelink room. He won't come in more than a couple feet. Hit and back roll. Rinse and repeat.

Thanks guys!

Practicing my ripostes on those knights....was nailing them last night but my timing is all outta whack today. Gotta keep on gittin' gud.

That's curious, I just went to the blacksmith and you're right, those drops don't upgrade to +4. Reading the item description though, it does say you can upgrade to +4 with it, but it refers specifically to
"Soul" Weapons
. I tested it and can confirm, it upgrades the
weapons you get from bosses.
So I guess we have to keep looking for the Large Titanite Shard equivalents. Te blacksmith does indeed require 2 Large Titanite Shards (楔石の大欠片) to upgrade a +3 normal weapon, so they are in there somewhere.

As for the ring: it says it slightly increased your Skill and makes your "figure difficult to discern when rolling". So yeah, I guess it's a flashy PVP ring.

thank you =)

is it safe to assume you understand japanese? if so do you mind if I run more things by you sometime

My current conundrum: Weapon Arts. I want to use them more to get the muscle memory down but I have to sacrifice Estus Flasks to be able to recharge. Is there a ring that gives you the MP bonus where it refills automatically (albeit, slowly)? Anyone have any recomendations on a good place to "train"? Even splitting my Estus 50/50, I use them all on one knight, let alone a boss lol

I believe the lizards drop
titanite scales
and those are used to upgrade boss weapons.

I'm by no means proficient, but I can make up for it with dictionaries, Google translate and patience. Sure, no problem. You can PM me if you want, or post them here if you think other folks could benefit too.

Wow, just, wow that fucking finale...

Ok, now is your time! :D Without spoilering anything...How do you feel about the game overall, especially looking at it as the final entry of the series? It kills me that there aren't any reviews out there yet. Not that my opinion depends on them, of course.

...Or did you just watch a video? ;)

I need this answered with thought and care...for my heart.

So for those of you who've played quite far into the game, without spoiling anything, how consistent is the world design? I don't necessarily mean everything being interconnected - Bloodborne's later areas were disconnected from the main world completely, but the world still felt coherent because the story justified it, unlike DS2 where it just felt like a series of levels connected by corridors.

Also, how's the bonfire placement? Something that bugged me about Bloodborne is the occasional really cool shortcut that often went completely wasted because lamp warping rendered it redundant (like the door from Yahar'gul to Old Yharnam). Are the shortcuts genuinely useful?

I've only seen the final boss. I wouldn't be the best answer. But, that final boss is better and more hype then Ludwig Second form. I thought Ludwig Second Form was impossible to top, I was wrong.
