The only possible way this could be okay is like, other stories in the same universe. You couldn't possibly make it a direct sequel. It could never work.

Think of it like this, even if it don't live up to your expectations if a season 2 was made and planned for with the originals, at least this current situation won't erase season one. You can totally ignore it and be set.

This isn't tying up the creators of season 1 from making something you was looking forward to as well. This may even get people to check out season 1 if they are unfamiliar with the show.

There's little reason to be upset. I would understand if it was a situation like star wars where the prequels were done without Lucas, but who knows, maybe these new ones, inspired by season one, will be very entertaining.

FLCL came in at the perfect time in my life too, which is probably a big reason it's my all time favorite anime.

I'll echo that sentiment.

FLCL holds a special place in my heart. I remember recording all the episodes on VHS so I could re-watch.

I don't really think FLCL needed a sequel, even though I loved it. I'll check this out anyway, but I'm a bit wary.

I mean, there have already been many, many Pillows releases during the intervening years, so it's not like they need to sign them to write a new soundtrack, they just need to license the music.

Of course, say 'license music from Japan' to a room full of licensing experts and half of them will laugh, half of them will crumple, all of them will cry.

I mean I know Production IG bought the rights to the IP a while ago and clearly they were going to do something with it but I'm still shook. That being said, there's like a 99.9% chance they don't make a product that doesn't live up to the original and we have no staff list. I don't expect/need everybody from the original to come back but I'm going to need to see names (and The Pillows confirmation) before I can get hype. I probably won't proclaim abject doom yet though.

I refuse to get hyped for new FLCL unless we get back the old ex-GAINAX staff. As much as I think Pro IG has been on a roll lately.

Haven't been into anime in over half a decade but FLCL was a huge show for me when I watched it as it aired on AS. I was at the perfect age (13) to really connect with the show and its themes of coming of age. Not sure how much impact it would have now that I'm 25, but then again these new seasons could easily be something quite different from the original.

I'll definitely give this a try, and I imagine so will many others like me who grew up watching adult swim but are no longer into anime. Smart move by AS

If anything the show only gets better as you age. There's certain themes, growing up and innocence, which only become more poignant when you watch it as a more mature person.

I rewatched it about a year and a half ago (mid 20s) and was surprised how much I enjoyed it for different reasons.

Big O needed a conclusion, but FLCL got one in its original release. There's no way I won't watch it. It won't really tarnish the original show if it doesn't turn out well.

I've only watched a few anime but by a mile FLCL is my favourite. Haven't watched it in a few years.

It ended very well but it could have more story to tell.

Hasn't the original staff been pretty well dispersed among other studios now? Notice they didn't even mention Gainax is working on it, just I.G., not that most of the Gainax old guard is even at Gainax (they've all gone to Trigger, Khara, and others).

Gainax is nothing more than a glorified holding company nowadays, really. They don't even own the rights to EVA anymore.

If the crew are attached enough to their work, maybe they'll return. But then again, I doubt Adult Swim could offer them enough money.

Maturity, bitches.
Even Big O was wrapped up. It needed a series 3 when series 2 was happening so the story didn't have to be reworked to fit within one series. What you'd want is a re-imaging of series 2 to tell the ending they originally wanted to tell.

For those of us who have no idea what this is, can you equate it to something else?

I'm not sure if that's a sincere question or if it's a joke since FLCL cannot be equated to anything else.

FLCL is, like, 50 different shows, movies, music and mangas got merged together. It's insane but in all the right ways.

Third reaction: Please don't suck.

I am another one in the camp of 'Big O Season III pls."

If somehow by the grace of God they got Kazuya Tsurumaki on this, we know Eva 4.0 will probably not happen in our lifetime.

I don't know, Big O season 2 didn't really have that problem. Had other major problems, but not that one.

Based on what? AS has never Americanized or ruined series. They're pretty hands off. Their only mandates for Big O S2 for instance was to give it an ending, because the creator wanted to leave it open ended
I'll hold out some hope then. I don't watch Toonami so I'm not real familiar with it. Will they produce a Japanese language version along with the English?

Naota's story wrapped up well enough and I don't think I need more of that. I'd be down for something stylistically similar with different characters though.
