Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

A slight step up from Man of Steel. I actually prefer Snyder's visual eye here over pretty much any other superhero movie. There's a depth and texture to his images that is simply not present in the Marvel universe. However, the story here is a complete mess. I've seen collages by preschoolers that were better assembled than BvS. There's no structure or momentum whatsoever to anything happening. That said, Ben Affleck might be the best Batman and I enjoyed Wonder Woman's brief presence (but those guitar solos have to go). Overall, it's pretty depressing how this movie feels more like an inevitability to what's next rather than anything that can stand on its own.

I'd go C-. Better than Deadpool!

Given what i read i doubt that but then that's just your opinion.

I liked it when I left the theater but much like most of this genre I thought little of it like days later. It's another solid 6/10 movie.

Mad hyperbole from people saying it changed the game and shit. I wish the action was better. I found the humor and character fun tho

Have you seen BvS yet? I have lost track of everyone's posts now that Off-Topic has become the BvS forum.

I am going tomorrow night unless my kid gets sick again.

I saw the movie. It was enjoyable and good, not the best. It definitely felt rush to introduce the JL, which now that i think about it was just a prologue to JL. They should had just name in dawn of justice.

Alrighty, showing is in one hour, and it's a 20 minute drive there. Leaving in just a bit.

Expectations set to: flawed but I hope there are some fun bits and pretty explosions. Much else is gravy.

I'm driving to the farther theater because it's the one that puts real butter on the popcorn, so if nothing else I get tasty popcorn out of it.

I bit unrelated, but I'm going to watch Superman Returns.

I haven't watched it and I'm surprised at its high 72 score at Metacritic.

How is Superman Returns 2006?

Deadpool was a better movie. It pains me to admit that because I can barely tolerate Deadpool in a team book, while I have loved Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman most of my life.

You can always hide a stick of butter in your pants to sneak into the theater, though you may need to layer your pants with ice packs as well....

Not long got back,my Batman loving friend really enjoyed it he actually liked Afflecks Batman, Im not sold but thats not the end of the world.
Enjoyed the film but it felt disconnected, as if it were two movies randomly smooshed together. Batmans parts seemed to flow better than Supermans and the end dragged on too long, imo.

Also Doomsday was kind of ruined for me by another friend whispering 'They have a cave troll' to me, now I cannot unsee it!

Holds up much better over time. Kevin Lex is a bit hammy though.
Superman is boring, but he has mostly been a boring character.

I will say this movie is differently not worth seeing at Midnight. I would not stay up late for this movie IMO

What's funny is that there is far less fighting than you would imagine.

I liked it. Routh inhabits the character well if you are more into classic Supes.

There's some odd stuff (especially his relationship with Lois) and Lex is both hammy and completely wasted.

There's moments that are mind breakingly bad, but then there are moments like the plane sequence that are among the best in modern comic boom cinema history. It's a bit of a mixed bag.

Just back. I eh... I liked it. *shrug*

Thought it was perhaps a bit crammed. Also thought it lacked a bit of direction at times. Liked all of the action sequences. Not overly bothered about Doomsday as a villain/enemy but enjoyed the scrap with him none the less.

Edit: as a point of reference I didn't like MoS from what I remember of it. Going in I am not a fan of Superman and couldn't give a monkeys about Wonder Woman either. Liked them well enough in this though.

its an okay movie. The opening airplane scene is good but after that the whole movie falls flat.

Breh I'll hulk out if it's as weak as that. Surely it can't be. Even as a possible mess it sounds more interesting

Godspeed spiderman.

I should write more detailed stuff in spoiler thread, just came back from seeing it.

I feel I like I just watched one of the DC direct to dvd animated flicks in Live action.

No I'm going tomorrow too.

I didn't mind Man of Steel, even if it wasn't really my idea of a good DC Comics Superman film. I think I came out of it thinking it was a 7 or so (mainly due to some of the visuals on Krypton), but I'd probably go with a 6 now. Hopefully BvS will have enough going for it to not feel like a waste of an IMAX ticket as I am watching it.

Real butter? Fuck.

That sounds so good.

If only I didn't have work at 6 in the morning..

This movie makes Thor 2 look like Return of the King, and Return of the King look like Godfather 2, and Godfather 2 look like a smile from God on your birthday during a blowjob.

Batman vs Superman is like Shawshank Redemption...

You know, the part at the end
where the dude escapes through the shit pipes and pukes a few times.

It's also kind of amazing how much was given away in the trailers. You could tell WB knew they had a stinker and were forced to lay all their cards on the table.

I remember some dubious insiders insisting there was "much more" after the Doomsday fight.

Well, lol.

I remember reading a fake script summary on reddit that was honestly more entertaining than this. At least it made sense.

Everyone at WB must've known this movie was shit. You don't look at this movie and think "GODDAMN we're gonna make so much cash on this!" I don't understand however why they didn't bring someone else to try and fix this piece of shit in the editing room.

Instead they let Snyder do whateverthefuck he wanted, and even gave him an extended cut of his abortion of a vision.

I saw this yesterday, it's a very enjoyable movie. That Luthor actor was goddamn annoying though, very bad casting choice. I was completely surprised by some of the fight scenes, it was so well done. Honestly went in with very low expectations, had no interest, but ended up enjoying it. Good stuff.

Well damn. If only someone could've predicted all of this happenin-----OH WAIT A MINUTE

Everything from casting Affleck as Batman to shoving Wonder Woman and potentially Aquaman into the mix and showcasing Doomsday in the trailers suggests that Warner Bros really really wants BvS to do Avengers-level money.
Regardless of DC/Marvel fanboy-ism, the consensus seems to be that Warner Bros showed off just way too much in this trailer.

What in the hell are you all talking about? That movie delivered like few before it. It might be a top 3 comicbook movie in my book.

I said it. What?

Oh and Ben's Batman > Bale's Batman.

Boom.

Just got out, it was literally worse than anticipated. Over long, over serious and at times boring. Change the S on Clarks chest to a big L. People walked out during the movie and booed at the end. Yikes.
