Dark Souls III [Import OT] Kindle the fire, one last time

How hard is this game in relation to Bloodborne?

I think BB is an easier game than DS3,people obviously can have more ways to make it easier like having shields. Bosses and enemies are nothing to scoff at and DS3 has a more welcoming curve in difficulty at first but it gets to where people enjoy it.
Challange runs are gonna be really fun in this game.

Thankfully it only took me 2 attempts to kill Dancer because the FPS during that fight on Xbox One is complete shit. The worst I've seen yet I think. I didn't get to fight it on beta so no idea how the fight compares to that now in terms of difficulty.

The biggest difference for me is no regain. I really miss it. :(

Otherwise, totally in love with DS3 so far.

Help please - is there a PYRO merchant or npc early on? I'm at the third boss
great curse wood tree
and really need some more fire spells for my fledgling pyro build.

Yes. in
Undead Settlement an pyro merchent can
be found inn a cage(I think close to teh second bonfire where you encounter a big enemy with big jar in red

Damn all of you! The wait was unbearable... Japanese version bought!
I don't play a native Japanese game since the GameCube days this will be interesting.

Is anything in the game in english?

There's a secret(?) bonfire near the boss tree, remember the bridge near that area? there's dudes throwing you bombs and one giant dude with the cauldron, you can jump down that bridge, follow the path and find a bonfire, get out and look for stairs that go up, at the top of the building you'll find someone in a cage, speak to him and he will teleport to the firelink shrine

The voices and that might be enough to beat the the game. Missing out on stuff is a given though, but the guides are building up as we speak. Just asking around here will help.

Thanks, do you cross the
bridge to the right of the first bonfire
?

What area specifically are you talking about; Tomb of the Giants?

I kind of don't (but kind of do!). Will be playing the best version with my first playthrough at least.

I know right? It was so mechanically different that them putting "Souls" in the title made very little sense to me. I think Lords of the Fallen was closer to a true Dark Souls sequel than that game.
Yeah tomb of the giants, skeleton wheels I can handle, that I cannot.

I'm also happy I'm getting the Collectors Edition with my copy but two weeks with no spoilers is a loonnggg wait.

Question about early game and where possible skip leads when killing optional boss.

So if you summon D
ancer by killing the old lady before 1st boss, and then climb up the ladder. It gets you into the Castle, and progressing even further you see e.g. two living dragons sitting on walls. Are areas accessible through this method at what point of game progression?

Referencing to https://www.twitch.tv/cohhcarnage currently playing embargoed US version and exploring areas described above. Embargo only says not to progress past Watchers.

So after the A

for awhile now.

Also, how do you upgrade Estus to +1/+2 in this or is that not a thing.

I speak zero Japanese and am not having any issues following along. Granted, I've played all the previous Souls games so I have a fundamental understanding of what things do. Still, Reddit has some great links to fexlife that has screenshots of the stat screen, character dialogue, item descriptions, etc that fill in the missing pieces.

I have a couple of questions about Firelink npcs if anyone can help:

Gr
eirat

has disappeared after I sent him on a mission to plunder the winter place. The only trace of him is that Patches asks where I have sent him, which I refused to tell

Is gone, but it is unclear exactly when it happened. A knight in white came and threatened me after joining the stat redistribution covenant, which may or may not have something to do with her disappearance. I bought all her spells, but unsure if I had given her all Braille miracle items

Lies as a corpse in his old place in Firelink. I bought all of his four sorceries. I never used the "draw upon" ability that he offered.

Any help with these three issues would be greatly appreciated.

I can't take the freaking wait anymore! What are some general spoiler free impressions? If requests like this have been shitting up the thread feel free to PM. SO much is happening for me between now and the release of this game:

-job interview for a career in my masters
-my spurs end the regular season and play GS two more time
-new Pokémon sun and moon info
-my final exam for my drug development class

Really hope this game will be worth the wait. Downloaded the Old Hunters which I will be plowing through today.

I have a question about him. If I do take the
draw option
how do I undo my
black thing that it gives me
Do I need to undo it before getting another?

Not sure I'm w fan of the battle art system. Seems like an r1 combo is the better option most of the time thanks to stun lock. I missed being able to parry with curved swords

My firekeeper can heal the black sign for me. I think the item for that was found
in Firelink shrine, after buying the key for 20000 and gaining access to the roof. Climb the second tower to get the firekeepers soul and thereby access to healing of the dark sign. Never had to do it myself, though

Do you know what the first boss (who gives you an actual soul) is able to be traded for? I am in desperate need of leveling up but if I can trade it for a badass weapon I'd go that route.

Not sure what the first boss soul is, but the Uchigatana is available just outside
firelink shrine
and it hasn't let me down yet.

Whelp, I know where I am going this morning. Thank you.

Yeah, I got that and it is indeed pretty good. I'm running with another sword that seems do do better for me, though. Also have the dark axe. My main thing now is I need to boost some stats. Figure I could use this boss soul for that but didnt want to risk losing out on a great weapon. Thanks for the info.

Also, how do you upgrade Estus to +1/+2 in this or is that not a thing.
You do it by talking to the blacksmith, he has a reinforce flask option and takes Estus Shards for it.

As for your first question, have you tried slicing off the rope bridge and using it as a ladder?

The hyperaggressive, 6 hit combo, infinite stamina, 180+ degrees tracking, 180+ degrees sweeping enemies make this game feel a bit cheaper than any other souls game. That doesn't feel in line with the original design philosophy of "hard but fair".

I think it has potential. It's basically this game's version of transforming weapons without the craziness, but I'm not sure if it's really worth the FP cost because like you said, R1 still does the job.

On the great club, the skill "battle cry"
(basically the dragon roar from DS1) gives you increased damage for a few seconds and changes your R2 attack to a 3 hit combo (that you only need to hit R2 once for).
. Since the weapon is great already I don't feel like I constantly need to do it, but it seems good. The butcher knife can
heal more health per hit when sharpened
with its skill which is also pretty fun, making the
health revival of that weapon
actually useful for once.

I also like the idea that if you invest in FP you're essentially availing yourself more melee options as you level up. Like a weapon you've been using for hours suddenly has more viable options because you have enough FP to stance / skill more.

So yeah, it's too early to tell but I think I like skills and the FP system, and how it's streamlined with magic consumption, so on a melee only weapon build, your stance/skills are basically your "spells" you can use a few times between bonfires. I've pumped all estus into healing.

I [wasted] used 75k souls to remove the Dark Sigils from the inventory, but I still have the hollow curse thing (It's under the player level) at 99. I'd imagine I need the 'anti-curse' items to remove that but the npc selling them doesn't sell anything to me anymore.

anyone knows what that curse thing does exactly and how to remove it?

The bosses are a 50/50 split between good and bad with 2 so far being just straight trash and 1 being Flamelurker-tier
no, not really. I've killed 6-7 bosses and I've yet to see a single ''trash'' one.
Crystal Sage
was probably the worst one I've fought so far but it wasn't that bad either. the rest goes from good/average to great. if by ''flamelurker-tier'' you mean great then yeah.
the real trash/garbage bosses are in DkS2, and I'd be surprised if this game has something worse.

-

I didn't like too much all of the locations I've found so far but the catacombs went from ''ok at best'' with the first part (boss was great though) to complete and utter shit after you get to the second part. it's just a copy-pasted immense chalice dungeon, looks like shit, you have no idea where you're going half of the time and the 75% of the enemies are recycled.
oh, there is an interesting part before you get there,
a huge crossbow shooting arrows at you and a giant worm swimming nearby,
but it's much less exciting than what it sounds.

These areas are so massive. Holy crap!

So many particular little spots that evoke specific parts of Demons and Dark Souls all at once in awesome ways.

Even reaaally little stuff like the hand axe being an item pickup near a p
yromancy trainer (the starting weapon for pyromancy in DS1).
Man I love these little touches and this game is like a love letter to itself.

Not sure it's cheap but enemies do track insanely well... Plus, they "close the gap" much quicker than prior games. I gave up the no shield pyromancer and bought a kite shield with 100% phys reduction. Best move yet.

Have you seen many of those? Really dislike tracking enemies

So, (end game spoiler). I just got to this boss in that K
iln of the First Flame looking area
. I had trouble killing it, and when that finally happens...
This motherfucker goes into a second phase! And he comboed me right off the bat completely destroying me.

FROM pls D: I don't like those double health bar guys, this is like the third one in the game that I've encountered so far

The first half of the fight is fun though. I'll have to play the second half a bit more to see what happens when the boss goes fucking Super Saiyajin.

Time to go to bed, I thought I could finish the game before going to sleep... But yeah it's already 4am.

Have you seen many of those? Really dislike tracking enemies

They all track but the animations are better than in DaS2 so it feels more natural. But you gotta learn your roll timings properly this time around, or you'll get fucked up.

One burning question I have...(please tag as such if there's a lore spoiler here):

Why the hell does the Cleric look like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle?
