Dark Souls III [Import OT] Kindle the fire, one last time

Again, GAF memories are really short sometimes. Dark Souls 2 was not being slammed for its gameplay or world design before release. It was being slammed because of the graphics. Once it was actually released it was "OMG this is so great!" "OMG it's better than Dark Souls!" and anyone that disagreed was spat upon. That same cycle continued with Bloodborne too.

happens with almost every game...people want the game to be good so when its first released everyone goes crazy and claims how amazing it is...after a few weeks you see more people start to criticize and point out flaws...a few months down the road the game goes from amazing to average or worse...I'm hoping DS3 really lives up to the hype in this thread and others and really delivers the goods

Oh please. There's nowhere else to talk or read about the game, and I didn't realize that this thread had tons of videos and non spoiler tagged area pictures in it. I know how to skip posts that are veering into spoiler territory too. Also, so what if I don't take what people are saying here at face value? GAF hype gets to ridiculous levels for just about every single greatly anticipated game. You act as though I straight up said you're all lying, but that's not what I said at all.

You don't need to take what we say at face value. However, it's annoying to tell someone something and then have someone else come along and say "I haven't played the game but don't put too much stock on what they are saying".

I was there and people were already propping up the B-team narrative and the lack of Miyazaki before release. I remember getting really annoyed in the very first interview thread because of that. It continued on from there. The game got more praise at launch than after 6 months, but don't act like everyone was just gloating how good the game was.

This couldnt be less true. The criticisms about dark Souls 2 have been around since it came out. I was slamming it for its nonsensical topography right on day 2. You have the short memory. I've been completely consistent on 2 as have many others.

I wouldn't say that Bloodborne endured the same cycle considering it went on on to win GOTY 2015 in a much more competitive year,, and considering how people talk about Bloodborne, unlike DS2 it is still held up in high regard generally.

I hope there's more than 1 titanite slab per playthrough. I got one and used it to +5 a twinkling titanite upgrade path. Anyone know if elemental slabs are back or is it just plain titanite slab across the board to +10, i imagine so

Yeah. I really liked it at release and argued in the game's favour... And I still really like it 2 years later and finishing it tons of times on 3 different versions of the game. I've been consistent on liking it and other people such as yourself have been consistent in criticising aspects of it.

Yeah, people disliking the game are in a small (not even vocal) minority.

Someone on reddit is saying the (early game stuff)
fat knight guy in the first area that casts holy thunder can sometimes drop the holy thunder miracle.
has anyone had this happen?

Might be worth farming him to find out? I only killed him once but i farmed the other knights for their set. On that note, anyone know where the
golden serpent ring
is?

Can some good soul help me with a couple of questions so I don't have to try and dodge spoilers in the other thread?!

How does hollowing work? Have worked out that the free levels you take from the pilgim give you a dark sigil, which then give you a hollowing level when you die. Have spent souls with the maiden women to get rid and used an ember but still have the hollowing level.

Are they permanent? Do they reduce your HP?

Do any of the npcs murder the others? Crestfallen dude keeps disappearing at firelink but always comes back!

Loving it so far, seems like a return to form ten hours in, just got first lord of cinder sat at firelink a couple of hours ago. Although some of the bosses seem a bit easier than two, the bits in-between seem way better.

If you don't have a lot of
purple moss
then you might not make it back. Just a heads up

Honestly I almost preferred to get poisoned. The drain is slow and it doesn't get worse if you hang out in the water afterward. Also! If you pull a monster into those fires, it'll kill it for you. I accidentally killed a giant crab that way!

Also I'm buying the season pass for this the second it goes up on Xbox live.
I don't have purple moss. Somehow I made it through the road of
sacrfices
without finding a boss. Sure I missed at least one, maybe two. Any tips?

Can't find the silver serpent ring, does anyone know where it is in the firelink shrine?

from where you enter firelink turn right and go up and outside again, up the hill. you end up going onto the support beams over firelink and there's a fake wall on the other side (I think)

I forget if you need the $20,000 key to get there or not. I think you might.

I'm in the church and i'm super, super concerned about the GIANT trying to crush my bones on the top floor.

Also, what builds are you guys using? Mine seems to be working out, i manged to kill
Abyss walkers
on the second attempt.

I'm lvl 44 Started as Warrior

19 Vig,6 Attun,12 End,26 Vit, 26 Str, 16 Dex, 8 Int,9 Faith,11 Luck. Using the
Fallen Knight
Set with
The Exile Greatsword +3 a Grass Crest Shield 2 resist rings an estus ring and the havel ring.

Basically this much armor and a big ol sword and i can tank a lot of the things in this game. Abyss only poked me for about 1/5 of my health per hit and i did about 1/9 his every swing in 1h. Nothing fancy, but I like the tank route so far :) Soon as i hit 18 dex i'm doing Vig and End for a while.

Btw have anyone figure out how to remove
those worms that cause bleeding effect?

Red moss or wait it out.

Just a heads up - there's currently a 15% off sale going on on the Japanese PSN if you use the "H5G85G7JHQ" code during checkout (one time use).
Red moss or wait it out.
Yesterday I found a message someone left in game saying that you can stop it using the torch, but I have no idea if it's true.

Thanks, got both the estus and silver serpent ring. Yeah you need the 20k key to open the gate.

wheres Pontiff?? I have done most bosses up till Yhorm, but I see I've missed him. I did the sage and the Wolnir. After Yhorm, it's like a dead end

I think I've backtracked 5 times now. Also
I gave the level lady a soul and now she wants a dark sigil, I seem to be lost or I need to find Pontiff or another area, Irithyll has that door that opens on one side, but I can only make it to the dungeon.

Hmmm, looks like the ONLY items in NG+ that I get that are +1 are the Resistance rings... I've gotten zero +1 rings, except for the 2 that gives me resistances.

Anyone else having this problem?

Basically the game wont let me connect. Go to login and it immediately says it doesnt work and to play in offline mode. All my connection stuff works so i dunno what the deal is.

Thank you for this post. I was afraid heavy armor+greatsword+shield wasnt viable anymore with the switch to a faster BB style of play, but I love my slow ass Souls tanks

Holy shit. Guys...I just found the best soul area ever. MASSIVE MID GAME SPOILERS,

Frozen ruined Anor Londo. Complete with a dead giant blacksmith :(

Aldritch was awesome, yet horrifying

Does someone have his english soul, and Lord of cinder decription? I really want to know more about him, and why
the fuck he has Gywndolion attached to him
.

Alright, I'm seeing that you can get there, but I don't know how. Someone mind telling me how you get to (area spoilers):
Anor Londo.

Where do you find the woman that comes to firelink to sell miracles? I've killed maybe 6 bosses so far and haven't found her

Just started the xbox one version. Is the opening area kinda bad framerate-wise? Or should I have rebooted my xbox after downloading?

Undead Settlement is one of the best Souls areas. Top tier stuff. I'm a little further on, does the game branch out at all? So far, the level design has been so god damn impressive, the singular destination hasn't been bothering me too much. The way levels connect together within themselves is great.

Anyone know where to find a second Pyromancer?

Don't know if you mean an npc, why? Did you kill the first? He's in area 2. You get a book in the swamp and a book in the catacombs after the abyss walkers.

Yeah, totally! It's a little rocky at the beginning. You don't really get any str weapons until the second area but they really pick up from there. I just made due with my starting axe for a while. The first area has a heavier mid armor set which is farmable it just fall off these really tough bastards. Things feel like they're swinging faster than they did in DS2 though. I went heavy on vitality because i'm trying my damndest to stay around 58% equip load. It helps that i found a ring.

edit: first area has the armor, not second.

Pull out your torch!

So uh, I killed what seems like an optional boss (this is fairly late game) and I need some advice....
After OCK, I picked up "Path of the Dragon" and it's not an item I have anywhere it seems, did it bug or am I good to continue elsewhere?

Oh! nevermind I answered my own question.
