Dark Souls III [Import OT] Kindle the fire, one last time

Really? What if you think Bloodborne with its trick weapons and quicker speed is better combat wise than any Dark Souls game? Would I still think DSIII is best gameplay of the series? If so I would be happily surprised as I naturally would think going back to DS style would be hampering the improvements BB made (again this is only my opinion as I know some prefer the sword and board style).

I'm in that camp and I don't think this can really compare in the same feel (i've been using twinblades so far), so I think BB will hold the edge in that area but if the game holds steady I'd put it above the other Dark Souls games.

So is parry different now or is my timing off? I seem to parry but then I hit attack and it doesn't do any special animation or noise just a regular attack. I had no issues doing parry in BB.

I just use 2H uchigatana. I don't bother blocking. Roll 4 lyfe

Dude parrying with the Uchi is so awesome!

Try it.

I guess you press R1 to fast? I parry, and use R1, not moving or touching any direction, didn't failed once so far.

I managed to do it to a black knight but every time I've attempted it since I ate shit. I dunno how to get the timing down, any tips?

Practice, practice and more practice.

That's the only advice I can give you, you'll have to eat lot of shit, but is the only way to learn the timing and what attacks from enemies are the easier one to parry.

So I'm not entirely sure what they did to it between DSII and DSIII but parrying now feels fantastic again. Something about it in 2 just felt wrong, but 3 feels just as good if not better than DSI did.

Walk up to them?

I mean, it's not just parrying.

What's your build, Yoshi?
Are you human? Good lord!
god dayum
I mean to be fair this game seems worth it so far to me. I want to know his build, some non-spoiler general tips, and his impressions after NG+!!
Haha, you guys are awesome. I played this game casually as fuck, going to bed every day, eating, drinking regularly, talking to my cousin, girlfriend, family, etc.

But yeah it was a THRILL streaming this game, those who watched were all awesome. Thank you!

My build.

SPOILER]
My NG+ completion character and stats:

Does NG+ have new enemies, new enemy placements, new items, etc. or is it just a more challenging version of the base game?
Very specific rings have +1 and most Lost soul of the X have been replaced with higher tier versions. The rest is the same.

Watching this series of videos of the PC version is really nice from a graphics & framerate perspective.

Can't watch too much though, don't want to spoil it.

Holy fucking shit, everything looks so different... like, I knew this would be the case but I can't fathom how good it must feel for people to upgrade from PS4 to PC when it comes out.

How do you get to this place you speak of?

Bosses are average, start very easy but get harder, to a good challenge level I feel. Regular enemies can be the real fuckers. Moreso than in most Souls games, a moment of weakness can really fuck you over, especially against multiple enemies. I've had damn rats kill me because for some reason poise means NOTHING to them, lol.

Also what is the second option when talking to the Firekeeper? It wants me to spend hella Souls, but what does it do? Respec?
Awesome, thanks for the feedback guys. I'm playing a Knight/Stamina build and just basically steam-rolling through lots of stuff, but I'm just under 10 hours in just had to fight
the tree boss
about 5 or 6 times, not extremely hard but the most difficult boss so far.

I have found it slightly easier than other Souls games so far, but I'm also a) Playing on English X1, b) using a powerful build, c) a grizzled Souls veteran.

Probably a combination of everything.

Yeah, you'll get +1 to your Estus strength which heals more HP the more you upgrade it.

I'm so close to biting on the JP PS4 version. Someone stop me ;_;

fucking do it.

So I have a number of gems, including a lightning gem that I can't use for infusions. Anyone run into that? Does it need to be a specific weapon I can only use it on?

You should do it, it's perfectly playable and buying it is easy.

Is there an easy way to kill
those skeletons in the catacombs? Right now I've resorted to kicking them all off bridges into the far beyond but it's not exactly efficient. I don't think i've seen any holy weapons yet either. edit: nvm, seems like they're just linked to the bigger enemies.

Just beat the final boss and beat the game. Not sure what happened at the end. Playing it in Japanese and not being able to read boss names and locations turned out to be way more of a bummer than I thought it would be, lol. Final fight was epic as fuck but I beat it on my first try (PS4). Awesome game though, not sure yet where it falls overall but early impressions are good. So many awesome weapons I can't wait to use on different builds, cool locations, etc.

Also a special Fuck You to whoever at Bandai Namco decided on the arbitrary 3-week delay so I couldn't just play English version on day one. What a dumb move.

Whoever's in this thread is already tainted, but if you have the wherewithal to avoid spoilers and can wait, playing English adds so much. At least if you care about the lore like me. I have no idea what this game was about.

Oh man, now we know for sure the unpatched version is easier than the patched game I'm even more pumped for the English release to hurry up and my PS4 copy to turn up. Really interested to see how my experience differs on the "real" difficulty.

For now, back to the unpatched Xbox version...

It's like an extra NG step. NG-, NG, NG+, NG++ etc. lol.

I think it's because a worldwide release means there'd be a lot more bugs and server problems, and then we'd all gang up on Bamco like we did on Cacpom earlier this year. They've been doing server maintenances a lot for example, but nobody's complaining.

And "no idea?" The NPCs explain things pretty well, and you can pick up clues even from Google translations that help a lot. From there you can guess! It's the legit Miyazaki experience bro. At the very least I have more idea what's happening than I did in Dark Souls II, and that was in all English lol

Yeah, I already had it pre-ordered on Xbox One, so no way am I going to buy it again just to play it a little earlier. But it is pretty much bullshit that they will not just release the game.

I mean, they are not even bothering to stop streams and so many here in America already have it anyway. There is no reason not to release it at least digitally for the rest of us waiting. The game should be out... period.

So I beat the Abyss boss with just fire orbs lol. That was intense. I'm way way too squishy but my pyro spells and fire katana wreck. Question - are you supposed to offer cinders
of a lord
to the empty chair?

Haha yeah NG- indeed!

Kind of feels a bit cheap now, going through the game on an easier difficulty. But it's still very taxing in parts, and I'll be damned if I'm letting my extra £50 purchase go to waste now. Game's too damn good to put down anyway!

You can compensate by not upping your health too much. I did the same in Bloodborne. That game also felt too easy in its standard NG progression.

Not being able to read anything in the game means I have like 2% of the information I'd normally have. NPC dialogue alone isn't enough, and as usual with these games, every NPC has an agenda, so you can't take what they say at face value. I knew no more at the end of the game than I did at the beginning. I'm not saying that's the game's fault, but the fact that I played it in JP, mind you. FWIW I thought Dark Souls 2 was very compelling story-wise as I was playing through it, because I was paying attention to everything. Obviously I couldn't do that here. Like, I don't even know the name of the final boss! I'm pretty sure I know what it was but still, you know. I felt like I was missing the emotional connection I have with these games because everything was abstracted out and all I had to think about was gameplay. Maybe that's a me-thing, but I think if I could go back and choose to play it for the first time in English and wait 3 weeks, I just might have. I didn't anticipate it would affect my enjoyment like this. I still love the game, don't get me wrong. I just wasn't invested in the story and setting the way I like to be, because I literally couldn't be.

That's super weird dude. I'm the same way (the best part about playing Bloodborne was feeling my slept frenzy as I tried to figure everything out), but I think lore is much more on point here than it was in DS2, even in a different language. It's fun to translate stuff yourself too.

Like when I got to the
Snow Yharnam
area I was like "what the heck is this"? But between the elemental effect the enemies have and the fact that Greirat tells you explicitly what area it is I figured it out.

I can't figure out this whole my x-axis on the right stick being reversed thing...I re-started the game, started a new game, all default settings and it still does it. It wasn't doing this last night while I was playing. I started up DS2 and BB just to see if my controller was boned or something and it was fine in it.

It's still going to be skewed, because you've already had experience with the game. It won't be the same as never having played any version at all.

The area after the
Pontiff
bonfire is an absolute hive of pvp activity. I haven't even bothered continuing on with the main story at this point.

Optional
Dragon
area could have easily been a dlc. what a great area and bosses.

Question about that area:
I got to the end, rang the bell, and went up the hill and prayed to the altar and got an item. What does it do? Is there anything I may have missed? I prayed at an earlier altar after the second bonfire and got the ring. How do I use the dragon stones to turn myself into one?

How do I get to this optional area? It has something to do with doing a certain gesture at the right place, right?

I've never been more happy to find a shortcut then I have upon opening a door back into the Chapel.

I kinda want to ask this, but I realize it's a major spoiler. I'll ask it with the most simple of words:
What level is a good level for the final boss? I'm a 74, but I realize that I'm either nervous or something because I run outta Estus during the latter part. Should I just grind to 80's or 90's and then retry it? I've got nervous fingers at the moment

It's still going to be skewed, because you've already had experience with the game. It won't be the same as never having played any version at all.

Well of course, still wanting to see how it stacks up. Like someone else said, like going from NG to NG+.

Having said that I'm off on holiday back end of this week and won't be back until the game is out in the west so I'll be playing the back end of the game entirely fresh regardless.
