Dark Souls III [Import OT] Kindle the fire, one last time

That's super weird dude. I'm the same way (the best part about playing Bloodborne was feeling my slept frenzy as I tried to figure everything out), but I think lore is much more on point here than it was in DS2, even in a different language. It's fun to translate stuff yourself too.

How would you know it's better? You can't read anything! I don't think it's weird at all. I was in the dark. Yeah the new areas were cool to get to but then the name would pop up and I'd be like "I guess this is a place". Whatever, this isn't an argument, and I'd have appreciated you not calling my reaction weird. It's not weird to not be invested in a story you get like 5% of and the rest is foreign.

How do I get to this optional area? It has something to do with doing a certain gesture at the right place, right?

You have to get the sit gesture after a certain optional boss and go back to the prison area where there's a statue of a dragon sitting and go sit there.

Miyazaki is really going old school and pretty much ignoring Dark Souls 2 altogether and making this more like Demon's Souls/Dark Souls 1...DS2 is destined to be the bastard stepchild of the Souls franchise
I'm okay with this. DS2 kind of ruins the story too because it has no place in DS3's world. They just wrote it out basically.

From what I've seen and heard, what I guessed, what I translated. Its way better dude.

There's a few quality of life improvements from Dark Souls 2, like bonfires fixing durability, fast travel from anywhere, the ability to respec, having a good roll up til 70% equip load

Ok so I decided to leave
crystal mage on ice and have a look around. Stumbled into a poison swamp and managed to extinguish the 3 towers which opened a door. Does that lead to the abyss boss?

People who think Miyazaki igorned 2 havent played the bloody game.

Besides taking all the lore it has plenty of gameplay features returning

Oh and all the people who think The Cycle system isnt canon
FWI it is.

Miyzaki loves 2

Okay? I'm not saying it wasn't, I'm saying I literally have no way of knowing.

And yeah this game references Dark Souls 2 a lot. Y'all got some selective vision going on.

Screw it, bought the game on JP PSN with a 15% discount code.

The code for anyone that wants to buy stuff on there: H5G85G7JHQ

Oh man, now we know for sure the unpatched version is easier than the patched game I'm even more pumped for the English release to hurry up and my PS4 copy to turn up. Really interested to see how my experience differs on the "real" difficulty.

For now, back to the unpatched Xbox version...

Are you finding it like 'EZ mode' though? I'm not too far in, but the Xbone version still feels like it has the typical 'Souls' difficulty, it's certainly hasn't been a cake-walk for me so far. I'm only up to
Road of Sacrifices
though. That mini-boss
before the first bonfire was almost impossible to beat...like I have a Fire Uchigatana +2 and it was doing hardly any damage, and it was relentlessly attacking me. In the end I had to run past it, open the door, and I cheesed it with Fire Bombs...

But you have all those ways of knowing it. That's the whole point lol

And it doesn't really. Every location ever in name dropped except Drangleic. The most you could stretch is the whole cycle/throne thing being from DS2. Everything else in the game's story is just removed.

The fast travel is such a big deal to me after Bloodborne's barrage of load screens to do anything.

I think for the benefit of the non-Japan version players, the official thread should contain a warning about something midgame/lategame(?).

After defeating Yhorm the Giant, I was teleported back to the Way of the Blue woman, heard her last words, and then moved toward the statue behind her and was rewarded with another boss fight. I had only one estus left and died losing 50,000 souls. I died again with some co-op people so those souls are gone forever. So I guess the message should be use a homeward bound bone or whatever they are called after the lady's death scene if you want to make sure to keep your souls.

Yeah it does.

Hollwslayer sword directly references luctiel. Petrfied giants return. The goddess from 2 is talked about. And much more.

Your blinded by your hate of 2. 2 is referenced alot. End of discussion.

Helps that loading seems faster on PS4, and will be even faster on PC

Best new thing is the ability to roll/run away while still locked on to people. I can take a sip of Estus without taking my eyes off a boss.

Oh my god, this game is amazing.

Just got to Road of Sacrifices. Those fucking curse toads are back? Omg, almost shit my pants when I first saw them. This is the best area of the game so far, by a big margin. The swamp is beautiful and terrifying at the same time, and the enemy design is amazing!! I'm scared to fight those really tall looking things because they're in the deep parts of the swamp.

Took me 1,5 hours, but I finally managed to beat
The Nameless King
solo. By far the hardest boss in the game for me, but absolutely doable once you learn his attack patterns, love such bosses.

It's way faster on XB1 already.

I will take this struggle ass framerate.

I liked the big portrait of Nashandra in the room with all the paintings

Also the very explicit reference to Shanalotte

You needed bonfires to repair your weapons because of just how quickly durability ran low. Quality of life improvement? Not even.

Good roll up to 70% at the cost of having absolute shit i-frames until dumping a large amount into agility.

Respec? Eh, whatever. That only became the new normal after everyone got used to it in WoW. Almost no one was crying for it before then, and no one complained that Demon's didn't have it. It only retroactively became this huge deal.

Right, it's referenced, but it has no place in the world. Like there should be people from Drangleic showing up, but there aren't because they knew everybody would hate that. Instead they just add in things like the little poison turtle monsters as references. DS2 has nothing to do with the story, and it actually makes the story make less sense (like remember how
Tower of Flame was supposed to be Anor Londo?
.

I guess the point is that while I'm glad Dark Souls III redeems the series, it's still a shame that Dark Souls II is still garbage that ruined the storyline.

Thanks!

I am now stuck in a critical decision regarding firelink though.
I found the eyes of the fire keeper behind a hidden wall in the "real firelink shrine". Giving them to the fire keeper and talking to her leads to her asking if you wish for a world without flame. Hmmm, what does this mean?

Regarding the differences between 1.00 and 1.01 - are we sure it's different all the way through the game, or does it just affect the starting areas that were played by the press? Because if some of the later enemies get even harder... (I'm looking at you,
huge ice ninjas and giant arrow shooting knights
)

Nobody knows. Some enemies are slightly weaker, some are considerably so, some seem to be exactly same, which kinda leads me to believe they're general difficulty tweaks too, not just related to making the game easier for previewers, so I wouldn't be surprised if even some of the late game enemies are different.

[...] I'd have appreciated you not calling my reaction weird.

Oddly sensitive reaction from someone who calls others fucking dense idiots lol

Nah, definitely not total Easy Mode. It's still kicking my ass in places for sure. Which is why I'm so interested to play the final version just to see how it stacks up.

So many amazing impressions. Gonna be a hard 2 and a half weeks

I nearly did a backflip on the spot yesterday when my local (UK) game shop sales guy mentioned that he might have the game for sale this coming Monday. They usually have games early, like with SFV, but more than 2 weeks early seems impossible, no? Still, I'll sure as hell will call them on Monday to double check (if it's not an import copy)!

But yeah, apart from that miracle actually happening, it will be a long wait indeed...

Don't think anyone knows for sure, but I would assume it's the entire game. I personally don't feel like it's a huge deal. as I'm still challenged by enemies and bosses quite a bit, but then again I have not played the PS4 import.

I mean, you could always counter the difficulty of past Souls games by grinding anyway, don't see what the big deal about saving yourself a bit of time is. But to each his own.

If Miyazaki loved 2, maybe thats the game he should have been working on rather than Bloodborne? And of course he's going to reference DS2 at least a little, not like he can completely ignore it. But for all intents and purposes, the majority of the lore harkens back to Dark Souls rather than Dark Souls 2.

I had yet to use
Yoel to get the free level ups and get the darksign and then I go to Firelink just now and he's dead.

Is there an NPC, cough Eygon cough, going around killing NPCs or does he just die after a certain amount of time?

god damn, they really make you feel the weight of your choices with NPC's (pretty late game spoilers)
forcing the set of eyes on the firekeeper ;( same with anri's questline

there we go!

Stremaing it`?

he dies after a certain amount of time regardless, you have to use the free level ups if you want to progress a certain questline though

Thanks!

Dude, how do you get there? I keep asking and no one tells me!

popping in for my daily "we got soft caps yet?" inquiry

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. Oh well, I plan on the NA PS4 being my real play through anyway. Just something to keep in mind.

*Takes many gameplay and story aspects.*

"Completley unconnected. B TEAM SUCKS!"

*Shakes head*

As I found out, arguing with him is pointless. It just goes in circles. This game has many references and features that carry over from Dark Souls 2. Yeah, it's moreso connected to 1, because that's where it began, and this is the conclusion to that story. It makes sense. It's just blind Dark Souls 2 hate, B-Team sucks, Miyazaki is the god-king who can do no wrong, etc.

I'm surprised you know all this considering you had no way of knowing what went on at all, to hear you tell it.

Didn't read it here, but (only spoils stat soft caps):

Vigor: health breakpoints around 25 and 40
Attunement: breakpoint around 40 for FP gain, 30 for slot gain (6 levels between slots up to 30, 10 afterwards)
Endurance: stamina breakpoint around 40
Vitality: 1 equip load per level always
Strength: breakpoint at 40
Dexterity: breakpoint at 40
Intelligence: breakpoint at 40
I couldn't find any easy way from this to tell how dexterity effects spell casting speed, short of going through with the respec and taking video clips for several values of dex
