Sorry, I assumed it must have been discussed already: 'Batman v Superman' Sets Record With Worst Friday-Sunday Drop For A Superhero Pic

Indeed, according to the figures I’ve compiled from Boxofficemojo.com, Batman v Superman has set a new record for the worst Friday-to-Sunday drop for a superhero movie release in modern North American box office history. In dropping 55% from its $82 million Friday debut to its $37 million gross on Sunday, it pummeled all prior records for weakness in theatrical staying power. It even beat the nearly universally reviled and now long-forgotten Fantastic Four reboot, which dropped a comparatively modest 48% across its opening weekend in the summer of 2015.

You might be thinking that Sunday was the Easter holiday, which could account for the big Sunday drop. But that still wouldn’t explain the Friday-to-Saturday decline of 38%, which was the second worst opening Friday-to-Saturday drop in the annals of superhero releases, after a 40% dip for The Dark Knight Rises.

It seems prudent to point out that one reason it dropped more than Fant4stic is that nobody went to see Fant4stic in the first place. The hype for this was so large that there was always going to be a big drop once preview numbers wore off.

That said, I suspect Warner will still be looking at those numbers with an "oof".
I think that drop would be expected from first to second weekend though, not from day to day within the first weekend

Won't lie. This makes me giddy.

Ok I finally saw it, it's not as bad as some people are saying and I don't think it's bad at all. Just a couple things:

Why does Superman feel the need to fly you through a wall as a first course of action?

Where did they mention that Superman was from Krypton. Maybe it was in Man of Steel and I forgot but Bruce calling superman a Kryptonian was weird

The reason for the big fight starting and ending was silly

How did Lois know when to get the
kryptonite spear

Why does branding by Batman get you killed. Seems silly it doesn't make much
sense

I loved the cameos.

The film cut out so much that would have made a more sense. There were some serious leaps in logic and scenes that didn't make a lick of sense due to the many deleted scenes. The final scene with lex being one. Will speak more later

It's not nearly as bad as people are letting on.

There are Zack Snyder haters, in the same way people hated on Michael Bay for...everything, basically. And although he's not the best storyteller by a long shot, he is visually very competent. Again, same way people hated on Transformers, which I for the record loved (the first three - the last one stunk even for me).

Then there are the guardians of the comic. Superman does not kill, Batman does not kill. My superheroes wouldn't do that, etc. etc. I understand this isn't your father's DC, and they are really going out of their way to make a DCU that is decidedly different than what we expect. But everything I've seen, I'm okay with the changes. I'm interested in seeing a different take (no Nick Cage pics pls) on what we've come to expect. Hey, remember the outrage when Michael Keaton was cast as Batman? Better them go different than creating another Green Lantern I'd say.

And last, I loved The Avengers and love Whedon, but Age of Ultron was a steaming pile of shit, and I would disagree strongly with anyone who thinks BvS was worse than AoU. My opinion, but I'm happy to defend it.

I finally got to see it yesterday with some friends, and I expected to hate it, as I don't like most of Snyder's other films (Suckerpunch...UGH!) But I did like Watchmen a lot. I overall thought Man of Steel was pretty meh overall, I was more put off by how egregious the product placement was during the damn climax.

But anyway, I actually thought it was pretty decent. If I had to give a score, it'd be a solid 8/10. I didn't like Lex at all, and I didn't like Lois bumbling through every scene she was in. I also didn't like the movie trailers for the other JL characters.

I loved Batfleck, and really look forward to seeing more "Batman" movies that are set in this world.

Saw the movie earlier. It wasn't really that bad. I think the issue is they tried to cram a lot of things into the film, and what suffered was a bunch of empty scenes that didn't grow organically. But the film was entertaining. It just didn't have a cohesive story.

-Affleck is the best batman
-Gal Gadot. GOOD LAWD!

I probably don't have a ton to add to what's already been said, but I just saw the movie and I liked it overall. I don't think it's nearly as bad as the critics say it is and I'm excited for the Justice League movie. I do think that there is a lack of focus in the movie and it tries to do a little too much, but it was enjoyable.

Watched this film the other day. I absolutely hated it. Its worse than bad. It's usless. I have never been more disappointed in a movie as I was with this. I would rather watch man of steel again and I disliked that movie.

Credits just rolled.
Film was ok not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. It felt way to overstuffed and jumped from scene to scene nearly as fast as the flash. By the way
Flash looked awful, effects were good though.

It's not going to have great legs but this is more about timing of release and how much it made in preview screenings rather than bad word of mouth specifically, at least with Friday to Saturday. No superhero film of this size has ever come out during this timeframe (Easter weekend) and that's skewing other comparisons in the process. It's also the same reason why BvS has a strong Monday drop compared to other comic book films (remnants of Easter holiday) but you won't see any articles today claiming good legs all of a sudden

It's no coincidence TDKR and BvS have the biggest Friday to Saturday drops when they have the two highest preview numbers in the genre. By the way TDKR had a 2.8x multiplier in the long run which would be considered strong legs for the superhero genre post 2008 era (I would suspect BVS manages 2.2-2.3x which would be not very good). So why for example does the Avengers have comparably smaller drops between Friday and Saturday? It came out on a 'normal' weekend when many schools are still in session whereas that isn't going to be the case with BvS or TDK since it's either Good Friday or a Summer day where Friday matinees can flourish. This maximizes Friday potential at the cost of Saturday in the process as you burn through demand quicker

The actual Saturday number was one of the healthier things about the weekend because day business minus previews was only slightly down. Sunday was rough though even with Easter in consideration since it fell harder than Furious 7 with similar circumstances.

I guess the point is, wait another weekend or so. But I'm sure you'll see a 60% drop at minimum. Probably closer to 65

Watched it yesterday. Movie had a lot of.. uh issues. But I didn't totally hate it. Thought it was decent. Oddly enough I can't say I cared all that much about Superman or Batman in this movie but I loved Wonder Woman. I'll be down for her movie.

Yeah, MoS was easily better than this.

Michael Shannon was a cookie cutter villain, but he had a real motivation, and was far better than Lexenburg.

Cavil's Superman was somehow better in MoS. He has no presence in this movie whatsoever.

Finally saw the movie, to the folks who think clapping in a theater is odd you ain't seen shit. I sat next to an older lady and damn near every time there was a loud action scene she was hooting and hollering. The first few times she did it I wasn't sure I heard right since it was during the heavy action scenes. Damn was it distracting once I noticed it wasn't the movie but the lady one seat over.

The movie itself was ok, I feel like it could have easily been much better. This movie has the best Batman in my opinion and I would have much rather seen a solo Batman film before BvS. My biggest complaint is that the editing is painful at times
most notably the early movie and the end when we jump from funeral to memorial to prison and back
. I really did not like how many story lines were crammed into this for no damn reason. Lex Luthor was a serious miscast, Eisenberg had the right look at the end but his personality would be better suited for The Riddler.

At the end of the day I just don't want to see my favorite superhero The Flash done by Snyder. I feel nervous for DC and DC fans, we fucking know Batman can be done right now get the rest of your heroes right in live action.

Ok just got back from seeing it a second time (in a theater with decent sound) and I really like it.

The first time I saw it I wasn't sure what to think apart from finding Wonder Woman exciting. I think after three years of hype and wanting this film not to mention Marvel movie after Marvel movie I originally was expecting something different. Not sure what exactly, but it left me feeling a bit unsure.

Now after second time it's great. Whilst those like Michael Keaton have a special place in my heart, I think Ben Affleck really is best Batman and Bruce Wayne.

I also love Henry Cavill as Superman. You can't really expect him to be a character like Christopher Reeve version when you have quite a few members of public treating him like they do in this film.

I'm really excited to see what comes next in this universe and I'm so glad we have Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman coming up next. Really interested in seeing what they do with Aquaman though.

I think Affleck is the best batman to date, too. As Wayne? It's hard to say. I think it's close, but Bale is the best Wayne. I think it has more to do with the writing.

Oh, and Irons as Alfred was a damn good choice. I seriously cannot wait for the solo batman, and I hope they don't fuck it up.

Yeah? I tend to look at his height and look and compare it to what I know from animation and comics and it seems to me that Affleck has it more than Bale does. I never really saw Bale as Bruce Wayne but was able to see it somewhat within George Clooney and Michael Keaton.

As for Jeremy Irons he was a great choice too. Hope to see him again. Definitely brought on a more hands on Alfred rather than just a simple butler as in some versions.

Whelp. Herewego. At the theater with my daughter, starts in five.

One other dude in the theater otherwise empty. No surprise on a weekday afternoon I guess.
