Its a good question without an answer yet. The main issues with extenders is the amount of lag that could be added. I am sure next week we will have better answers. I am facing the same issue. My study has a 8*6' space that is open already which could be ok. But down in the medai room I have a 20*16' open space. Problem is I dont want to move my pc out of the study. I fear that I will have to make a choice unfortunately eventually as running a set of wires 30' isnt going to work.

In what respect? Technically you should be ok with 30ft extensions for USB and HDMI. Practically it might be difficult to route through a floor. Short term I'm just going to lay the cable out down my hall when I use the vive in my living room and gather it up afterwards

I'm reading some scary shit regarding glasses in the Rift thread, anyone can help me alleviate my worries on that for the Vive? i don't wanna put on contacts just for VR gaming

Everyone has said the Vive is much more comfortable with glasses. Will Smith on Tested in particular noted the Rift was bad for glasses, but he had no problem with the Vive.

I've been hearing it isn't an issue from the three long oculus streams I've seen. The vive includes an extra faceplate with additional space for your frames.

For what it's worth I got an email from HTC saying mine is being shiped on the 5th.

You mean something like this:

"It would be my pleasure to help you out with the request you have; I took the liberty to check the order status and it shows that the product will be shipped on April luckily under the first batch that will take place on April the 5th. Keep in mind that you would be notified on your email with the tracking number so you would know exactly when the item will be delivered. This is the information that we can provide you at the moment according to your inquiry. Have a nice day!"

i got one of those but it is kind of vague. I have heard april 5 ship and april 5 receive.

With the way my house is designed, I have a fairly decent sized area behind my couch between that and my kitchen, maybe 12'x12'. I have this crazy idea of running HDMI and USB extension cords up through my ceiling and then have them come out of the ceiling motorized. I'm not sure how feasible this is, but I imagine someone has had retractable cables coming out of a ceiling before.

If it's coming from the ceiling then it at least removes the possibility of tripping over the cords.

Kind of like tire shops. Where the air pressure hoses come from the ceiling and are retractable?

Someone here on one of these VR threads found something like this neat idea. Using a retractable reel.

Yeah, except I'd want it to be motorized. Ideally I'd want the cables to be completely hidden behind a wall plate when fully retracted.

I'm not even sure how useful it will be, since in the very center of this room is a ceiling fan. Obviously at the very least I wouldn't be able to run the fan while the cable is down, but even then it still might interfere.

If only these damn headsets were wireless! But then they'd weigh at least twice as much.

Interesting. Here's mine.

"Thank you for contacting HTC Online Store! We have your order number REDACTED for a Vive and your order will be shipped on April 5th. Thank you once again for contacting HTC and if you have any further questions please contact us back and we will be more than glad to assist you. We hope you have a quietly brilliant day.."

As long as I get it during that week I'll be happy.

Ok cool. I am good with that. 5th ship is still fine either way.

Will this work? They would be 5.5m apart.

It's so close now. The next month is amazing. Going on vacation soon, coming back to the Vive then playing Dark Souls 3 and Uncharted 4 not long after. This may be the best month to be a nerd ever. :)

Not sure but that's one pretty room!

Found it!

$72.54 for me. Because California...

FYI I received a response from HTC. They said that my order will definitely ship in April.

So a longer distance between both lighthouses isn't a problem?

How do you mean bringing in the walls a bit more?
Your distance is only 10% more than the recommended "max". That should be within the error margins they'd provide for a recommendation.

Bringing in the walls refers to virtual walls. Chaperone bounds so you don't go hitting those things accidentally.

I feel like im the only person that doesnt want mine to ship in APril and is hoping my May shipment comes as late as possible. With Pascal probably hitting in late May I wanna have the ability to upgrade before getting my headset.

Haha, not that it's likely at all for me to be in April, but I'd prefer anything over the first wave. I need to get the bracket measurements from people to make my mounting solution. Getting it in the first wave would drive me crazy as I rush to get my lighthouse mounts done while the package taunts me.

Edit:
My room is already small enough (2.3x1.9m) :(

I don't want to make it even smaller.

You'll want to be exceedingly careful then. One wrong move and you'll have a controller through your TV. =/
