PS4K information (~2x GPU power w/ clock+, new CPU, price, tent. Q1 2017)

If you'd spent $900 on a computer 3 years ago you could be playing 4k games already, with free online and Steam sales.

As long as games take advantage of it, this could do very well. I already want it and there are barely any games on ps4 that are very good. Hopefully with the games already annoucned on ps4 it would be different in that situation.

I don't know how anyone can agree with the sacrifices part.

One thing is getting the standard 1080p30fps game and then ps4k getting whatever they want, I would be ok with this because ps4k is not fucking with me and my purchase.

But sacrifices sound like I'm going to start getting gimped games ala shadow of mordor oldgen and that's ridiculous. If that happens I'm so fucking done.

For the love of God I hope that they add more than 2 USB ports this time.

How long were you expecting the generation to last? The PS3 released in 2006 and the PS4 came out in 2013, which was 7 years later.

Most publishers wanted the generation shorter by about a year, so it would have presumably been a 6 year generation under normal circumstances. The generation will be 3 years old by the time this launches.

You believe this new system is going to be announced and launched in 6-8 months? When they haven't even decided on the CPU yet and (supposedly) are just briefing developers about it now? I don't see it.

I hope the newest Frostbite games like Battlefront and Battlefield 5 will get some update to make them look even better on this updated PS4.

1080p better AA and 60fps?!

Goodness. This sounds like a massive step up doesn't it? ...can Uncharted look even better? Run at 60 FPS?

As long as PS4 1.0 is supported, I don't mind this. But I wonder if developers will bother optimizing for PS4 1.0, or even if the optimization for both will be balanced.

Can we please expect that? Will devs have to work a significant time to support two different PS4 versions?

They will optimize for the bigger install base. Let's see what that is in 2 years.

No, it doesn't, what it does mean though is that you are going to have to suffer much poorer performance in any new titles that are released, who wants that? Devs aren't going to target the lower spec machine.
Wouldn't this be for titles that are developed now and released much later in the gen though?

I quoted this because this seems like the biggest issue many and I have with a mid gen refresh.

Wow. If true, will be buying this, thoufh likely in a year. Glad now that I never pulled the trigger on a ps4 and decided to get through the 35 ps3 games I had on back log before making the jump.

Funny how a few years back Sony was talking about keeping things the same and traditional, then they do shit like this that no one asked for. We need a new competitor in the industry since Nintendo and Microsoft have become irrelevant.

Why do people keep asking for an official trade in program?

If you want to trade in a PS4 or any console you'll need to go thru Gamestop or some other retailer.

2x isn't be much of an increase, if they decided to not increaase graphics at all it might mean 60fps with dips

that can only mean that MS has something similar in store (like rumored). Don't know why Sony would do that with the safe road ahead worldwide.

If you'd spent $800 on a computer 3 years ago you could be playing 4k games already, with free online and Steam sales.

No doubt for multi platform steam is the better choice. But games so far haven't been a huge upgrade over ps4 other than possible frames resolution choices.

but I don't have a 4k display.

Me either. I have no plans on going up from 1080p in the foreseeable future. I dont sit close enough to my TV or gaming monitors to see a big improvement IMHO.

I'm in for the higher framerates and inproved PSVR experience. I HOPE there will be mild "settings" options for games now. Give me the ability to turn down the resolution a little or effects some for much higher FPS and i'll preorder two.

go

I take it back. Existing PS4 owners are being dicked on.

Might very well get this with PSVR.

Sounds fake to me. This is, for all intents and purposes, a new console if what OP says is true. Underpowered compared to what we consider a generational leap, fully backwards compatible, and with very limited "new, exclusive" software. But basically a new console. R&D had to be paid for, new contracts drawn up for chip design and other suppliers, new devkits built and shipped out, etc., etc. All this time and money spent on something I can't see will have any return on investment for Sony. Not to mention the risk they take on by pissing off consumers. And Sony is LEADING this gen by a good margin. This sounds like the kind of desperate move a company who's fallen behind the competition makes.

There is still so much we don't know about this and people are jumping to crazy conclusions.
Let's wait maybe a couple of months for E3 and get he actual facts...
But you know, thisisneogaf.gif

My understading on this is, the PS4K is going to be for 4k 60fps, and the actual ps4 will be for 1080p 30 fps. What's wrong with that?

LOL at people saying they're moving to PC.

You guys do know that PC gaming updates faster than consoles right? You're gonna be forking out more or same in the long run.

You're going to sell your PS4 in protest of them giving consumers a choice to go buy a system that is currently weaker than the one you're selling...

Who said anything about selling my Ps4?

I'll keep it and play exclusives on it I guess, but going forward I'd buy more for Xbox, and I'm sure as hell not going to reward this shit behavior on Sony's part. Consoles are not smartphones.

I was wishing for a 4x more powerful GPU for 4k resolutions and still a beefier CPU. I think it will be well worth the $100 for the extra power

And how long does PS45 stay relevant until PS5 is announced? 2019?

The phone argument doesn't work for consoles. If I buy a Samsung Galaxy 7 from T-Mobile, yes, it may cost $700 but I pay it off over a period of 24 months at $30 or whatever a month. Unless that option becomes available for consoles, with a free upgrade like phone providers do, then I don't see the market openly accepting this type of constant upgrade and change within the home console market.

I was expecting it to last about as long as the last generation did... I was under the impression that we wouldn't be seeing new hardware for a good long while.

Certainly not a system more expensive than the PS4 in a little over 3 years.
Yes, I realize this is very disconcerting for people who like the regular console model. I'm not trying to say it isn't. My apologies if it was coming off that way. I was just trying to say they're switching to a two system a generation model with a new model halfway in between.

Most publishers wanted shorter generations for what?
Not launching games?
A lot of studios didnt launch even one single game in this gen.
As the market gets older, games start to sell less as consumers get less excited about seeing new shininess, outside of the absolute biggest titles.

Last generation was a bit too long for their taste, but given most major Western developers make notably scalable PC versions of their titles these days, adding additional target platforms isn't a huge deal and they have a base of highly excited customers to try out their new hardware.

Eh, I bought a UHD (4K) Blu-Ray player for $400 this month. While a PS4K for $400-$500 would make me regret that purchase, I'd be happy to get that player integrated into a console. Count me in for a PS4K.
