PS4K information (~2x GPU power w/ clock+, new CPU, price, tent. Q1 2017)

Then everyone would be flabbergasted that Sony were killing the number one console so early in the cycle. Instead they're killing the number one console early in the cycle and calling it PS4K instead. They are going to regret it.
Regret all the money they'll make for having a 4k device this holiday that is associated with the PS4 name?

Totally.

Except that new GPU in that PC will run you $300-$500.

That's a high end PC graphics card upgrade. That certainly won't be used in the new PS4. So basically i'd be paying $500 for a shitty upgrade compared to PC upgrading. Not seeing the incentive here.

This is the shit thats pushing me out of console gaming all together. Just sticking with handhelds at this point.

I'm not convinced that most games optimized for the more powerful console will look or run like shit on the old PS4 simply because multiplatform games (so, most games) will still need to look and run acceptible on the even less powerful XB1.

I'm thinking future games running on the original PS4 will look and run much like they do now, and playing them on the upgraded console will be more analogous to what it's like playing a game on PS4 and then playing the same game on a mid-to-high tier PC currently.

Exactly - Ps4 and Xb1 levels are something like 60-70 million already - that will be the baseline of every game made.

If the Ps4 can use the PC high end settings, thats fine, but I bet it will be a much smaller percentage of the market.

Posters saying devs will target the 10 % Ps4 K owners and making a shit bade console port would be commercial suicide for that developer.

Is this information true? What's the source? What meeting? Sorry I'm sure this has been asked already but I read through the first 2 and last page and didn't see anything

LOL at people saying they're moving to PC.

You guys do know that PC gaming updates faster than consoles right? You're gonna be forking out more or same in the long run.

Yea but you get many advantages with PC gaming that you don't get with consoles.

Consoles just lost one of their biggest advantages tbh.

This is going from a bit less of a GTX 950 to a bit mroe thna a GTX 960. For $500. That's not the value proposition of traditional consoles. Not by a long shot.

well, that sucks. Don't know if I'll stick with consoles if this takes off.

I'd rather invest in a gaming PC than buy yet another plastic toy box only 2 years after I bought the first one.
I don't get all the switching to pc post.

Wouldn't you be in the exact same situation?
yes, but you also get all the other benefits that come with a PC. Consoles are trending in a "like a PC business but without all the cool things" -- why bother?

How is people that already own a PS4 okay with this? Basically an half-gen upgrade for full price, and no news about a trade-in option. I hope this doesn't become a trend, I'd rather have a new full gen after 5 years than an half-assed one after half the time.

I really hope this won't be confirmed.

All of the "NX here I come", "PC here I come" people are confusing me.

We don't even know what NX is, and it's not as if PC's are future proof either. I smell a culture of moral panic here, when really, when this thing is revealed, it will be nowhere near as bad as some of you think.

2x the GPU power isn't even half gen.

I also think OP's wording is a bit shitty with the "Considerable sacrifices to performance". PS4 OG games will run as you'd expect them to no doubt. It's just that PS4k games will naturally perform better. Devs aren't going to be doing any worse of a job than they're doing now with current PS4 ports/multiplatform games.

Wouldn't this be for titles that are developed now and released much later in the gen though?

I quoted this because this seems like the biggest issue many and I have with a mid gen refresh.

Some games, BIG games, could also be PS4K exclusive.

Like...just imagine how much hell there'd be IF (MAJOR hypothetical here) something like GTA6 was PS4K/XB1.2 exclusive. The market would be destroyed if that happened.

If Sony and Xbox are following the model of Samsung and Apple then it would be nice to have some sort of trade-up system.

Please be nice Sony and MS.

Yep, i can see this whole PS4K stuff going to massively backfire for Sony. If those plans are true, of course.

.

Depends on MS' and Nintendo' approach. We already know that MS is up to something like that as well and Nintendo, well, they completely killed their latest console when they announcend a successor one year ago... So it's not like switching to another console will change anything. And switching to a gaming PC is like jumping out of the frying pan into the fire...

I don't know how anyone can agree with the sacrifices part.

One thing is getting the standard 1080p30fps game and then ps4care getting whatever they want, I would be ok with this because ps4care is not fucking with me and my purchase.

But sacrifices sound like I'm going to start getting gimped games ala shadow of mordor oldgen and that's ridiculous. If that happens I'm so fucking done.

People here don't care because they think Sony can do no wrong. Sony could probably sell these people another PS4 3 years into the life cycle! Wait... that's exactly what they're doing.

Is it wrong I can't stop watching that?

Somehow I'm sure that this is bish-approved fool's day joke. Will be revealed as fake in 48 hours, after every gaming website and their mother repost it.

The only issue I see here is if people buy the PS4K and are then presented with a PS5 two or three years down the line.

Sony are doing great, consoles are selling. I honestly now see the average Joe and mums and dads now becoming confused. I mean are Sony going to halt on production on PS4?

I'm calling fake. This would be the dumbest and most unnecessary thing Sony could do when they're already making so much money with the standard PS4.

Not saying the OP is a liar, but I'll bet this is either misinformation or something that gets cancelled.

Just so, so stupid.

Gamestop isn't going to offer much for people's PS4s if the rumor is true at all, consumers won't want to pay much for an used PS4 if the graphics are that big of difference. I'm tempted to sell my PS4 after playing Uncharted 4, although I'd like more rumor confirmations on the huge GPU difference. I expected something like a 25% increase, maybe 50% at most not double the performance.

From whoops and hollas at E3 2013 to boos and shouts of disgust at E3 2016. I can see it brahs, I can see it.
