Sony is dropping support of the PS4?

Did someone not realize this thing is a good year away?2013 to 2016 is now 4 years? Did someone release an HD remaster of basic math concepts as well?
exclusive first look at the hardware.

To be fully accurate, the base console would still say "PS4", no?
So will we get Remastered PS4 games for PS4K then or what? LoL
You know the rule. New leak, new 150 page thread.
I was waiting for this, excellent. Only took 40 pages to do it though.
For PS4K, everyone is worried for naught. You will have PS4 population around 50 million by the time this releases. Sony and Devs will not want to mess with this. It will be just as with the current PS4/PC situation.
You get your Fallout 4/Witcher 3 at 60+ FPS and high res on PC and 1080p/30fps (at best) on PS4. You will still get the same performance on PS4 when PS4K comes out. Devs do this today with PC/PS4/Xbox ports and will do same when new SKU is out.
PSVR is a bit different animal as PS4 is really underpowered for it so there YMMV but still everyone will want to sell to the large install base if they can.
This thread is moving too fast, but I'd just like to note that it really doesn't make any sense to take an estimate based on a AMD GPU architecture, use that estimate to multiply the FLOPs of an AMD GPU, and then compare that directly to an NV GPU.
It makes much more sense to compare it to AMD, which would put it at about Radeon 280X level.
Sony to original PS4 owners

You realize this is backing up my point more, not less right?
In a world where developers aren't properly optimizing for the strongest console currently out, what makes you think they'll do so for a lesser variant of that?
Related info from a meeting we had yesterday was waiting for it to be approved before posting.
Price is currently $399.99 they were discussing a better CPU which would raise the price to $499.99 we were guaranteed the price will be no higher than $499.99 (He mentioned the CPU upgrade quite a bit almost as if they haven't really decided on a final spec could be a pricing issue.) also there is currently no plan for any type of trade in program for current PS4 users but that could change.
They stated that the GPU is twice as powerful as standard PS4 and much faster. They did not say exactly how fast but that is was running at a higher clock speed while being much smaller than the original.
It will have a 4k blu ray player and will upscale games that are not natively 4k.
Also there was talk of some sort of VR lounge for the media player app which is supposed to be getting a substantial upgrade.
It was stated plainly and with no room for interpretation that there are developers that already have development kits for the PS4K and that they are making games that will directly target and take advantage of the higher specs of the PS4K. It was also stated that these games will in fact work for the PS4 but with considerable sacrifices made to performance.
It was also made very clear that current games would not be getting any type of performance upgrades by being played on the system and any benefits to older games would come via patch per game and per developer. When asked if this was going to happen the response was "Its a possibility but doubtful with the exception of a handful of games."
We were also given a list of games that will be available at launch that will directly take advantage of the PS4K where the differences are and I will quote him "Significant."
I do agree with that. Especially if this thing improves VR. You would think they would want it for PSVR launch.
Hmmmm
Sony Launches Ultra High-Definition Movie Streaming Service
Not sure what to think about this...having to buy a new 500 dollar(CAD) console every 2 years now to keep up performance wise is a small slap in the face...you dont have to but just the same...
People in your situation as bolded are in a real tough spot and I feel for you. I never believed the PS4 would be able to drive good VR content so I held off. It does feel like this is Sony's admission that people with my opinion were right. And yes, if I were you, I'd consider cancelling that preorder until we find out what the differences will be with PSVR on the OG or 4k consoles.
So yeah, I sympathise with people in your position but I just think the PS4 was never going to do VR justice. The Oculus and Vive would have forced Sony's hand eventually, especially if the Oculus runs on the new Xbox. So their hand was forced.
The Wall Street Journal implied they might be keeping the regular PS4 as a cheaper model in their primary markets as well.
I wonder how it'll affect games when connected to a 1080p TV. That's gonna be what makes or breaks my upgrade decision.
This may play into the strategy:

Unfortunately, if you stick to the current model, odds are the games will run worse than if this PS4k didn't exist at all.
This is what happens on PC, iOS, and Android when newer models make their way out.
You'd rather play NOTHING at all for three years than play something knowing there's a slightly better version of it out there? How does logic like this work? Now that I think about this more, I think I may just sell my PS4 and wait 3 or so more years, get a PS5.
Gorgon? Hydra?!? Nooooooo.
I do agree with that. Especially if this thing improves VR. You would think they would want it for PSVR launch.
Hmmmm
Missing holiday would be an even stranger move.
