Even so it doesn't make sense for it to be anything related to a remaster. Spending millions to produce a CG trailer for a remaster doesn't make sense. I don't think anyone has done that.

I can see this from two different angels.

On one hand I hated the length of the last generation and would of killed for a new PS/Xbox around 2010 or 2011, my enthusiasm for games, even awesome ones late in the gen was disappearing because I wanted to move on from those ancient machines so bad.

On the other hand, I'm not sure how I feel about the ".5" console angle because that means we'll probably have a true next-gen PS5 3 years after this launches, which means I'd kind of have to spend $399+ every 3 years if I wanted to continue to buy things day-one (like I did for the Wii U, PS4 and XBO) and part of the reason I do buy stuff day-one is because I feel safe for many years, I don't know if I could justify that moving forward as this would make me feel like my purchases may not have as much value anymore.

I guess what I'm saying is if I knew that this gen would only be 5 years or something, I'd be thrilled, I hate super long gens, but half-gens are kind of awkward. I'm not against this like some people, but as someone that normally will buy a new console right away and be hyped beyond belief whether it comes from Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft -- I'm honestly not sure I'f I'd buy this and I'm the easiest sell in the world usually.

Count me in the "wait and see" camp though, as I'm not totally against this or anything, I'm actually not sure how to feel. The only thing I know is I can't wait until E3.

PC being lead platform isn't very meaningful. What spec? That's the big issue. There's a reason you don't see a 980 or Titan that is fully taken advantage of in games. Those GPUs aren't targeted.

I have no doubt that the PS4 will 'do' for PSVR, but then you can play certain games at 20fps too.

I have the feeling that PS4 just isn't enough for what Sony want to achieve with PSVR, hence PS4K.

Framerate and performance is significantly more critical and sensitive when it comes to VR though. So you can't take a hit like you can normally in non VR games.

This point is pretty simply not true for everybody. If you primarily want to text and call, you buy a dumbphone and save yourself a lot of money. You buy a smartphone as a prestige symbol (which BTW means you're dumb), or for apps. That's how it works around here at least. Heck, some people have dumbphones for text and calling and a separate smartphone for the rest of things.

The OP says that devs are making games that target and take advantage of the PS4Ks specs. That sounds like the PS4K will be the lead platform for games to me. The same article also says that OGPS4 versions will have considerable sacrifices made to them.

taking advantage of PS4K specs does not mean that they will spend more time on PS4K than on PS4.

For me, it is obvious that they will spend less time on PS4K since it is easier. It is like when some game gets parity between PS4 and XB1 and you wonder if they did not try with PS4 since it is more powerful... so with PS4K being 2x more powerful, it is much easier for them to use it and they spend more time optimizing for PS4.

And from development side, it is same platform and development tools just different resolution of assets and some effects like better version of anti-alias, etc, etc. They all exist in the tools, you can see how it looks in the pre-rendered trailer, etc, etc. They wont actually have to do new port like they do with XB1. It is same enviroment, just different setting which is super easy for them.

your logic is backwards. If anything your explaining why console iterations make sense. People upgrade their phones even though there are immaterial improvements to its core functions. Technology is allowing for materially better gaming experience, and thus there is a reason to upgrade.
