You setup miifotos in the menu (lower-right), and post them online using the share options, after the miifoto has been created. You can't post photos for questions (other than "A recent shot of me"), but there's an option to post them in comments by tapping the image icon next to the text field.

I've visited a few homes that had distinctly different furniture, plus the music was different.

I think they're randomized, but I wouldn't be surprised if we get decoration options later through an update. For now I'm pretty sure we can't customize the rooms.

The only trick I've found is change your clothes. After it will ask you about taking a Miifoto. Once you do go answer the next set of questions and it should come up asking you if you want to post it or something along those lines.
