Aw yeah, can't wait!!!

Miriam Margolyes is in it, could be great!

Knightfall and Six intrigue me. I like how small print the words are above JEREMY RENNER, trying to trick us all. Or maybe it's not a trick, looking into it there is mention he is "expected" to appear.

Knightfall is supposed to be fall, is there any word if Six will be as well or possibly even air alongside?

I thought I could make it. I somehow watched an entire episode of Between.
I'm done.
Fuck this show.
I should have stopped watching when the woman asked her daughter if she had a good day slaveing away on the fields and she happily says she did.
Fuck this show.
I should have stopped watching when the evil master whipped one of his slaves, whom he is in love with, just enough so his mother won't get suspicions. Oh, and after he whips her they start making out.
Fuck. This. Show.

Holy shit, really? He whips her and they make out?

Yes, really. He even pushes her newly whipped back up against a tree as they do it.
Actually it gets better than that. His wife looks on as they make out.

If anyone would want to watch this fuckery here is a timestamped link

I still can't fucking believe this is real.
This is just a really elaborate April fools joke, right? Please tell me that it is.

Lol at that white slave. If they really wanted to make a show about a white girl being sold into slavery there are a lot of other historical periods and places you could set your show in.

The beauty of MIPTV, there is just so much TV you've never heard of. And so many reasons why haven't heard of it.

I can definitely see how I was a bit unclear, I was agreeing with you and adding my own, slightly more foul mouthed, disdain.

Where is MIP again? I feel like this is something I should be more aware of.

If this is a double post idc

berzeli, thanks for the heads up. This is pretty cool even though as you say it might not hit all the marks here cause it's not all english language TV. I swear I'm getting around to watching Deutschland '83 though, everyone.

Re: The White Slave I don't think it is necessarily a terrible idea the way it seems to be pitched, but 1) it could/should be set in another time period and era all things considered and 2) see #1 again so 3) I expect it to treat the era with little care and will probably go off the rails.

Like if you told me it was a subplot in Spartacus I would believe you entirely but if you tell me the show is about a pretty white lady raised by black slaves during the chattel slavery era of the American South I might raise an eyebrow or six. If only because you literally need to assemble the most deft team of writers and actors to even have half a chance to do it right.

Learning about The White Slave and that photoshop has redeemed my day. Nothing short of everyone I love dying can ruin this.

Oh god.

I thought it couldn't get better.

This is the description from the official website:
“The White Slave” because Blood is the Same Color, is a production which narrates the story of Victoria, a woman who everyone knows as a marchioness who arrived in America to marry a prosperous merchant from the region. However, the truth is different, because years back in that same city, she was rescued from death and raised in secret by some slaves who became her family. She was taken from the arms of her loved ones and sent to Spain because according to the society of the time, a white woman could not live with slaves. Victoria is an indomitable woman and she will come back pretending to be someone else to seek justice and liberate her family. This woman is determined to face anyone who gets on her way to free her loved ones from slavery, confront her parent´s killer and reunite with the man she would give her life for. For Victoria everyone is the same color which is why she won’t rest until she claims justice and become heroin. The series has the highest production values, like movie optics with f55 cameras and impeccable art work. The lead role is interpreted by renowned Spanish movie star and Goya award winner Nerea Camacho who is accompanied by a luxury cast with Spanish actor Miguel de Miguel, Venezuelan actor Luciano D’Alessandro, Cuban actor Orian Suarez, Panamanian actress Miroslava del Carmen and Puerto Rican Modesto Lacen, among others.
Truly the greatest woman. Become Heroin.

I'm actually crying. What is this.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
If it was based on a true story I'd be willing to give it a pass.

But as a concept, it's a well intentioned, white middle class highschooler's short story that totally shows how stupid racism is guys.

Exactly. I think the series shouldn't necessarily be about her trying to "set them free" but trying to change the laws or going to the president or something and saying "hey, I was raised by these folks. They aren't animals like you southerners think" or something. But the whole thing is just gonna be bungled instead of trying to actually bring something new to the idea. If that makes sense.

Oh wow. Yeah, throw this entire thing into the bushes like the dumpster fire it is.

Their tagline should be "We can do better."

I almost want to do watch this out of morbid curiosity. But I'm just gonna stick to Underground and preserve my braincells...
until Scream Queens Season 2

Ill have to put The Family on the messy writing list. I can see why it isn't catching on, it feels all over the place yet I cant stop watching since Im already in so deep.
Meanwhile, as stupid as it got at the end, Thirteen just finished a five episode run and won't try to drag on this mystery kidnapping thing for as long as possible. lol

Anyone watching The Carmichael Show? It basically rebooted into this weird 70s/80s sitcom where every episode is just people sitting in a living room making speeches at each other about a topical political issue. Tonight the family spends 20 minutes worrying about whether their new Muslim neighbours are terrorists.

I guess on the one hand it's interesting to see a sitcom deal with "issues" again, but it also feels so quaint in the era of single-cam character-driven sitcoms.

I'm a bit behind but the first season was mostly like that too. Sometimes they'd go off and do a thing but then they'd come back and still discuss whatever topic was at hand.

That Walking Dead finale should count as a cancellation.

So many people are done with it now.
Yeah but no one actually died.

Like who could they possibly have killed off / not killed off for people to throw their hands up in the air. The whole point of the show is killing people off.

This is very true. But at the same time, the current showrunner is saying that keeping his audience cliffhanging for the next seven months is due to "one story being over and another beginning."

Then there's this:

Extremely poor storytelling is just as much a cancellation story than a true cancellation. I'm not bothered by this too much since I saw the leaked filming version a couple of weeks back, but as someone who loves the art of storytelling, this is a tad offensive to the audience.

They probably killed Robin Lord Taylor again.

Pretty sure they haven't actually decided who did die, so they can always write their way out of it. Hey, the gang ran into a redshirt like 5 minutes before this happened!

Yep, that's why Chandler Riggs's tweet makes it all the more disappointing. Those who filmed the scene don't even know. They'll just pick once the writer's room opens up again.

If Walking Dead fans cared about good storytelling, they would have quit several years ago.

They'll wait to see who wants to quit during these months. The writers can congratulate themselves on the hard decisions.

Believe it or not, I wrote this whole post, realized I was being too mean, erased it, and wrote it more moderately.

If they cared about good storytelling, they never would have entered. It's been a bad show since literally the pilot. Absolutely zero storytelling, bad characterization, awful pacing, dull writing. It's a show that floats effortlessly on style (style in this context means willingness to do a brutal kill-shot, because it's not an especially visually interesting show otherwise) because its audience is people who will pay an extra $20 to buy a plaid button-up with the sleeves pre-cut off. Have you seen Norman Reedus in interviews? I'm barely convinced he's a human being. What's the alien equivalent of rural Kentucky, and has anyone sent them a message to see if they're missing someone? Anyway, it's the kind of show people like because it's "badass" and if you ask what that means their brain short circuits because they only get "feels", not feelings. Absolutely zero going for it.

As someone who has been forced to watch the current season by his girlfriend, and only just watched the pilot for the first time a few days ago, I really can't agree with this. The writing alone was a hundred times better in the pilot, and there was actual care and investment in some of the characters. You have waking up in the hospital not knowing what's going on, the boy crying over his zombie mother, the horse buffet... Actually interesting things happen in the pilot. More than happen in the whole of the last season. Now it's a show of dull predictablity where the people you expect to get captured get captured and the people you don't give a shit about die, while the dialogue... Jesus Christ. If I didn't know better I would have thought it was originally in a foreign language and machine translated. Just the most wooden, thick-tongued speeches completely flat of all emotion. No one is trying on the show anymore, and probably with the ratings it gets, no one has to.

But then if the Simpsons keeps on with its current level of effort, Walking Dead could last another dozen seasons.

I watch TWD because I like the gore and nothing more. It's also why I don't bother with the thread on GAF for it any more, it's not worth the time to post about it.

I never post in it either, mostly because I don't watch the show live and there's way too many posts to read through. I did feel the need to post my reaction to the finale's cliffhanger, however.

Only the pilot is like that, and even then it's an almost 1-to-1 recreation of the first issue of the comic. The rest of season 1 is pretty bad.
