they could have been in the ring with the legends and won the match. it's not hard.

they literally did it on raw a couple of weeks ago. new day wins, league of nations team up and beat the piss out of them. do the same shit at mania, they grab a mic and last night's events go exactly the same.

I don't get this line of thinking AT ALL.

Why should the guys that are always there have to take the back seat for some old dudes? Why aren't you building your new guys instead of relying on nostalgia?

This line of thinking is why so few people on the main roster are over, though.
 
No real issue with Ryder winning other than it's obviously they're not going to push him and are only doing it for someone to destroy him for the title (most likely tonight).

AJ losing to Jericho though felt almost offensive and I'd love to hear what their logic is other than Jericho's the WWE guy and they can't have a non-WWE guy beat a WWE guy.
 
Ryder was over like hell in that match. As someone who has been watching him be thrown back to the bottom twice and have to work his way up again, I'm happy. But they need to have plans for him going forward, which they probably don't.

Well

The New Day is already made, and hbk/austin/cactus were only there for a few minutes, and they went over the LON, the most boring faction in the wwf and one that will probably cease to exist soon (Barret's leaving the company at least, and since the stable's gone down like a wet fart it might be a good time to break them up).

Generally speaking you're right though

The New Day are over yes but putting them in the backdrop for the old guys just sends the message that the new guys aren't as good as the old ones (which just isn't true).

If they want to have an "all old guys" segment sure, do it. But having part-timers steal the spotlight from the current talent makes no sense to me.
 
Yeah I dont get Jericho winning. I dont like either potential outcome:

-AJ is as overrated as he told us and they move on
-the feud continues past WM 'till Payback

I was ready for something else there :|

Why should they be happy? I don't understand how you believe it was a good thing out of all the other things that could have been done. Personally, I am not happy with it at all and thought it was a crying shame.

People aren't going to remember the finish of a newday/lon match with no build behind it at all (and bear in mind the new day have gone over the lon pretty much every other match they've ever had).

They'll remember the cereal/saiyan spot though.

If New Day had a proper program going into 'mania (and they SHOULD have had one against the dudleys if the wwf hadn't booked that feud so badly), then I'd agree with you.

This feud blows. I've heard nothing but hype about Styles, but really haven't seen much of anything in these matches so far.

AJ may not be a spring chicken but in the 'WWE Universe' he is fresh and has the potential to be used in limitless ways. While wins and losses may not ultimately mean anything in a pre-determined show, it does still have an effect on how the audience perceives him and buys into him.

What if because a wrestler is handled badly when they arrive the audience doesn’t get behind them or loses interest? WWE have done this plenty of times under the belief that 'wins and losses don’t matter' yet they kill any interest the audience may have and 'burry' the star.

For years now people have complained that WWE doesn’t push enough fresh talent and relies too much on established stars yet you argue that its fine for a new star to go through a programme with a legend who is only around to enhance other talent, having so many matches people are bored with the story only to 'finish' it off at Wrestlemania by having the new person lose? Yes they will probably continue the story but at this point does anyone really care?

To dismiss people's concerns as 'they are just salty their fave wrestler didn’t win' is rather disingenuous and doesn’t take into consideration WWE's history of doing things that are 'best for business' which actually ends up creating hatred or even worse apathy amongst the audience.

That doesn't indicate much. People just like to beat the traffic. I remember watching people pour out during Michaels/Taker II at 26 in disbelief. Why pay that much to go to Mania if you won't even stay to watch the main event?

If WWE continues the current trend of overly scripted promos, too much TV exposure, and 50/50 booking, then yes because almost nobody from this generation will be remotely as over as 80s and 90s wrestlers

Why should I care about that match at Payback and why should I care about AJ moving on? he's logically on par with Jericho sicne they're trading wins back and forth, so Fandango is technically better than Jericho, and so is Bray Wyatt

Are they taking a back seat when they got the most memorable entrance of the night and shared the ring with 3 legends, upping their profile with casual viewers in the process?

You can argue whether they should have won the match, but New Day have now had segments with HBK, Austin, Foley and The Rock in the past few months. Clearly that's a hat tip to how hot they are, and how the legends feel about their run, not a burial.
 
I still don't understand how wins and losses don't matter.

This is a soap opera about a combat sport. Wins and losses and how you win/lose are all that matter at the end of the day.
 
Go watch WM30 ending then watch WM32 and tell me Roman got a pop. He got a scattered applause at best. Hell, even Steph getting hit with the nose dive got a bigger pop then the spear. In fact there was a decent amount of audible boos after the spear.

To make it even worse, there was no money shot with the crowd. They had to find the tiniest groups cheering to get some decent shots. It was Wrestlemania 22/23 all over again.

But why it matters what the legends think of them? They don't need it.

Also they didn't share it, the old dudes came out and cleaned house by themselves and they Stone Cold stunned Woods.

They don't need to share their moment with anyone.

When has getting beat up by a one off appearance from legends really elevated anyone any significant amount though.

New Day is a comedy act, they got a special entrance, were involved in a segment with the biggest stars in mania history

Them losing meant nothing

if anything the casual viewer sees them as weird geeks. why the fuck did they come out of a cereal box? why are they dressed like dragon ball z characters? then they lost and the legends posed on their own.

nothing about how new day was portrayed on this show did a good job of getting them over with a casual, mania-only viewer.

you know what would have? WINNING A FUCKING WRESTLING MATCH

They're also the tag team champions, who lost a non-title match to a group of wrestlers who've done literally nothing since becoming a stable. It's not like a death nail for the New Day or anything (see: the Wyatts after fighting Taker/Kane) but it didn't help them at all either.
 
New Day aren't a comedy act.

They are the tag team champions and one of the most over performers in the current roster. Some of the most entertaining and talented dudes to.

They could have won the match, and still had the LON beatdown because of the numerical advantage.

That's nothing to do with the vets skit, but yeah that's an (odd) vince booking decision.
 
I just started watching NXT Takeover, and 1 match in and that Tag title match is better than anything Wrestlemania had to offer. The quality difference is kind of shocking actually.

They talked about this on LAW and decided that probably didn't happen because they couldn't really have the legends music play one-by-one if they ran in for the save.

Austin's music did get the biggest pop of the night.

Oh just wait...Nakamura in 20 secs. showed more charisma in his pinkie finger than 99% of the WM roster has in their entire career.

Have you never watched NXT?

Their Takeover specials have been really good as of lately, specially the main-event matches.

Sami vs Nakamura puts to shame what WWE does currently with the main roster.

AJ's two best WWE matches have been Y2AJ vs. New Day on Raw and AJ vs. Kevin Owens on Raw. Fastlane and Mania were ok. Mania I think was their best match but the finish was dumb, end this fucking feud. It made sense for like the first month but crowds accept AJ at this point, move on.

You think Nakamura will get a match with Kane at WM? The moment he gets to Raw he'll get a mentally challenged stripper gimmick. He'll be in a multi-man Battle Royal at WM.

Yup. When the womens title defense is a better match than the rest of the PPV and thats even WITH a botched sunset flip, then you got problems.

Split the brand. Keep NXT its own thing, and just give up on WWE. Its dead. Its there for HHH and Vince to suck each other's egos off.
