Maybe the deal with Sony prohibits certain amounts of marketing and merchandising with Spider-Man.
Yeah, from Anthony Russos comments during the Collider Interview and his absence in all the advertising it seems like they had to make an agreement just to put him in at the end of Trailer 3. I don't think they can just freely advertise him, which is insane but it would be just as crazy not to put him in any posters or tv spots if Disney could. The secret is out now. I wonder how this will effect Infinity War and the non-Sony movies where he should have a larger presence going forward.

He might not be in advertising because of how small his role is. Sure, he's going to be more than just a tiny cameo, but I wouldn't expect much more. A quick scene at home, another with tony, and an impressive, but fast fight sequence.

I could understand merchandising, but not advertising would be super weird.

Sony doesn't actually make any money (directly) off Spider-Man being in Civil War.

Even though they know it is mutually beneficial, they don't want Marvel to make too much money (that Sony can't get a piece of) off the name of Spider-Man rather than on the film's own merits. Overselling the size of Spider-Man's role is just one possible worry I could imagine Sony having about Marvel taking advantage of the agreement, a loophole if you will.

I'd assume Spider-man will participate in at least a couple of bigger fighting scenes. The one we already know he's in (unless his entry to the scene disrupts it enough to end it?) and probably at least one other after the big confrontation between the superheroes. Really don't think they are just going to ignore him after the airport showdown, he'll be a part of the third act too, I'm sure.

I am assuming the same thing too. They are containing the expectation by limiting his appearance.

He's at most going to have just a glorified cameo and nothing more imo.

No Ant-Man or Paul Rudd mention on that display but a Daniel Bruhl mention, interestingly enough.

Makes me wonder how they will plan to market Infinity War which likely will have over two or 3 times the amount of superheroes, even if they are conservative about the the amount they will have in the film.

Expendables style. 75% of the poster will be names

I am a bit worried that Daniel Brühl's name is hanging out at the end there. Zemo might have a tiny presence. Granted, Grillo's not listed, but we know he's only in a small part of the movie.

No way he's in more than one action sequence. Seems expectations for Spidey in this are way too high with some people.

Personally I think at least three. One showing off home-made Spidey doing his vigilante thing, the fight teased in the trailer, and a confrontatiom with Steve where his loyaties shift from Tony to neutral or Cap

Two fight scenes aren't "way too high", don't be silly. Seems you are being way too pessimistic. Some reports suggest his role is far more than just a glorified cameo.

I'm going to laugh when spider-mans part is smaller than wonder womans
Aunt May is confirmed (?) to be in this movie. Unless you're suggesting that Aunt May walks into the middle of the airport showdown, there will probably be more to Spider-man than just him popping in to say hi to Cap & Iron Man, making a few quips, bashing a few heads together and then vanishing two minutes later, never to be seen until his solo movie. I mean, Spider-man is pretty integral to the original Civil War comics. Even if they can't necessarily do the same thing with him as they did in the comics due to him being such a young, new character in the MCU, they could come up with some other way he'll be important to the resolution of the movie, even if the movie still focuses mainly on Cap.

Not sure how apt your comparisons to WW are. BvS was something that obviously shoehorned characters like Wonder Woman in to the movie just to jumpstart the whole DCCU thing at once, whereas I feel Marvel wouldn't just throw in a cheap cameo by their biggest star they've finally gotten the movie rights back for, but would do something more significant with him in this kind of special occasion.

People are really setting their expectations too high for Spiderman.

He's probably going to have a little screentime but maybe a bit of a significant role. So don't expect too much of him doing much since this movie isn't about him. That's what the solo movie is for.

Plus seeing people saying "where's Spidey" every single time can get pretty annoying.
