Game Informer May Cover Reveal: Final Fantasy XV

Ok this is big I know for a lot of people that are worried about Final Fantasy.

GI has this to say, "FFXV isn't Witcher 3 or Dragon Age Inquisition in terms of your to-do list. That isn't necessarily bad because your quest log isn't bloated by insignificant or uninteresting tasks.....inspires a feeling similar to pre-PS2 Final Fantasies where there were huge overworld maps that made the setting seem authentic and enormous - even if you didn't find a quest every step."

Can already read the complains about nothing to do.

But what about those 200+ quests? Holy shit, is the game world so fucking big that you won't feel like you find a new quest every step?

I think a lot of those will be quests given by people in the cities and towns, and who knows how much of the main story quests takes up that number.

I would play a badass old dudes spin off with these guys standing in for the main cast.

Man, I really hope we get to play a bit of the dad team.

Ah yes, the Nier treatment:

So the first chapter after the opening sequence seems to go something like this:

Noctis and friends are on their way to Altissia -> car breaks down outside Lucis in a town called Leide -> you meet up with Cid and Cidney at Hammerhead who agree to repair the car and Cidney sends you on some fetch quests (kill monsters) -> car is repaired, gang goes to deliver a package for Cidney -> package delivered to the black dog seen in the trailers, named Umbra -> flashback to Noctis and Luna childhood -> Noctis and co. set out to a coast town to catch a ferry to Altissia, meet up with Ardyn who says they're closed off for now -> sidequests -> party goes to hotel, reads about Lucis attack in the newspaper -> they get back in the car and head back to Lucis right away -> they fight through some Niflheim troops and eventually see what's happened on the horizon -> Cor calls and delivers the bad news -> chapter 1 ends.

Well nevermind this. The gamestop page talks about international customers but it's not letting my payment through because I'm outside of the US? :/

We have yet to see what these 3 games will even be liked in terms of how much content they pack.

I highly doubt any of the parts is going to have anywhere close to the amount of stuff FFXV will have from day one. I think that's the worry. By the end it will surely have more, though.

But it wasn't going to be episodic, anyway.
Yea, which is a shame because FFXV looks like it's gonna be packed to the gills. But some people were honestly expecting part one to be up to the reactor fight, which is just nonsense

This is a very good article guys, I recommend picking it up. I've left plenty out because I don't want to spoil their whole article. GI played a LOT, probably more than anyone besides SE. This feature is huge and obviously covers a lot of hours of the early part of the game.

They really wanted to capture the feeling of the over-world of the previous FF's in an open-world.

Lol, why would you be excited for that. Lord Nomura designed Cor and he's meant to have the katana now. This is true to Nomura's vision. ;)

OK.

This is the best thing I've heard about the game in a year. So it isn't going to be like Duscae?

Maybe you can assign weapons to each character? In the infiltration trailer Gladio was using the tempest sword that Noctis had on Duscae.

Just read the cover story... square enix seems to be taking all of the suggestions from fans seriously for FFXV and I haven't been this hyped for a final fantasy game since the unveiling of FFXIII.

I have a feeling this game will deliver on it's promise of bringing the series back to prominence.

I don't want to be spoiled, honestly. This is my most anticipated game ever.... I imagine. Little details are ok but the entire first chapter? I'll pass.

People weren't just expecting it, some people were actually explaining how that would somehow be worth their money as long as they got to fart around in sandbox Midgar.

In regards to FFVII remake. Each game will be the size of a FFXIII game is specifically stated. In other words full scale 30+ hour RPG, and they also say plot wise nothing is off the table in terms of changes. They clarify they aren't changing everything but Kitase, Nomura, and Nojima feel since they were involved with the original game that they have the liberty to add / change what they want while still making fans happy.

I read it too, they played the whole first charter so they saw some cool stuff but compared to what we have gotten to play through demos it doesn't seem all that different. They saw basic stuff. I want to know how the combat is 50 hours in.

The FFXIII games got shorter and shorter so I really don't know what this means.

So, filler?

Ohhh, everything makes sense now. Look how starved Noctis looks in that picture.

"But you mustn't say so, lest the cook be sent away."

It turns out, Regis, that you actually DID send away the cook.

Well congratulations, maybe you now remember why you hired a cook in the first place. Do you think they just do random things in the kitchen to be a pain in your ass? No, they do it so you and your one and only heir eat and live healthy every day. Your bodies need NOURISHMENT.

What do you mean, you tasked Ignis to cook for your only child??? Nooooo, Ignis has been an epic failure. You want to know what he does? He took Noctis to McGarula for some meaty Chocoburger and Crunchy McGyshals. Well that turned out nicely, didn't it?

You have been a horrible, horrible, horrible father Regis. Don't you ever wonder why people keep dying under your reign.

Your son Noctis will be the first ever video game character to literally starve on screen, congratulations on a job well done!

This is truly a fantasy based on reality.

A fantasy horribly gone wrong.

The hunger is symbolism.

It represents the starving bodies of fans, who have waited 10 years.

They have waited like the Futurama dog. Some are no longer with us, some lack the nourishment they longed for, and some are still waiting on that meal to come.

Not necessarily. If the plan is to make a trilogy like XIII, they could break it up at Disk 1, Disk 2 and Disk 3 or something like that.

This is what it sounds like, since FFXIII games got smaller and smaller with each instalment. It's the same with Disc 1, Disc 2, and Disc 3.

So, filler?

A lot of VII is "filler" not particularly pertaining to the main plot, but its good filler that helps show what the world is like.

Nothin' about the Golden Saucer or Fort Condor was exactly important. But it was fun.

I removed all the text that I felt unnecessary and added more to the sides of the image to make it fill a 1080p screen without cutting off parts of the image.

We still here 10 years going strong

Oh I hear ya, but its directly referenced here. They literally say nothing is off limits because they created the original.

So people expecting a 1:1 story translation need to get ready because it won't be.
Kitase told nostalgia kids to go play the original before lol.

I laughed at this, this is why Genesis in CC worked so well and fans loved him I guess? lol

A little off topic but how is it that a paper gaming magazine, a relic, is so powerful in the industry and always get exclusives coverages and get to play and given access to games months before other journalists do?

One other kind of minor thing but still cool, you can improve and forge weapons from materials you collect.

GI is massive. A lot of people don't realize that but their subscriber base is enormous.

I have no idea about GI's financials, but it could be the funding they get from their parent company as well as their digital stuff doing well for them.

There's a good outlet for everything. It's not like PewDiePie is ever going to cover FFXV.

Things printed on paper will be taken seriously.

They seem professional enough to not rely on leaking releases dates and other type of information in order to get a few quick clicks. They get so much info because the publishers themselves trust them.

The FFXIII games got shorter and shorter so I really don't know what this means.

Shorter in terms of main story but still lengthy with sidequests. I'm guessing they'll split the story evenly enough though, while scattering quests along the way.

Hey he may play it in the future.
