To be honest part of me is glad this justice league thing isn't working out simply because of the way they handle their DC tv shows. That shit should be interconnected. Instead splitting the universes for really no damn reason

I been joking on the bootleg Jungle book for ages guys. THey might as well cancel it, ain't nobody got time for a Jungle Book without the music.

There is absolutely no way to prove it, but I feel like things would've been different if everything was the same, but it was Christian Bale instead of Ben Affleck.
There's no way to prove it because there isn't anything in his history or the reception to Batmam v Superman to suggest that this belief is anything more than something you've made up in your mind.

The WW date is slightly better. I don't have much faith in Bad Boys 3 hitting that date given the script isn't finished yet.

Only slightly better for WW. Bad Boys III might beat it and WWZ II will take the following weekend.

World War Z 2 currently has no director.

Plus I'm fairly sure Wonder Woman has more brand recognition than Bad Boys (WW will take the family audience at least)

The crapshoot is that Pirates 5 comes out the week before.

Wait, they're making their own Jungle Book movie, too? Do they envy Disney that much or are they just too dumb to realize how bad a play it is to release an adaptation ~2 years after another one by a competing studio...

They are doing a Jungle Book?

What?

Anyway, new news new thread, I think.

They've had their own Jungle Book film in the works since before Disney's, they even shot at the same time.

It's called Jungle Book: Origins, I shit you not.

What in god's name? Are they trying to shoot Wonder Woman in the foot?

It was previously the same date as Transformers 5, this is not a great weekend, but it's a better weekend.

Congratulations marvel fanboys. You got your wish.

I hope you are happy.
Don't call me a marvel fanboy. I used to be DC Comics only.

But I am happy. The direction Zack Snyder took the DC Universe wasn't worth for me anyway. I hope they die and come back with something good this time.

Son, they shook...
'cause ain't no such things as halfway crooks
scared to death, scared to look

The pattern with Snyder and the Wachowskis is easy to discern, they have one big hit and WB gives them their keys. They wreck the car immediately, but WB somehow reasons that if they let them drive a more expensive car, they'd get better results. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

The fix is very simple, be as willing to take back the keys as you are to give them out. WB clearly has some top brass that would rather lose race after race than admit they picked a bad driver. That stubbornness is insane given the sums of money they keep gambling away on these guys.

If a project fails, maybe don't give the showrunners the boot, but give them a smaller project next time. Not bigger. Let them work their way back up instead of perpetually failing upwards. This should be basic common sense, but it eludes WB's kingmakers.

Visually I liked BvS, it just had some weird decisions in it. If they get rid of Snyder I hope the next DC movies aren't too tonally inconsistent. I like the darker, more realistic style of the new DC movies since it separates them a little more from Marvel stuff.

It would be a shame if this movie kills the ambitions of Warner's DC cinematic project before it really gets off the ground. If it tempers them it'll be a good thing though. I think BvS could have been a lot better without the Justice League set up (which honestly just felt like an ad break mid-movie for upcoming releases), dream sequence, and maybe even without Wonder Woman (even though she was really great). I was really enjoying the start of the movie, seeing the destruction of the city from Bruce's point of view and some of the scenes with Clark Kent. The film would have been a lot better if it had just worked on developing the relationship between those two characters so the conflict felt more natural, and had chucked in a better resolution to said conflict beyond both having mums with the same name. In this kind of movie they need some big bad to fight at the end but Doomsday felt like a little much,I dunno. I just think if the movie had been a little more personal and focused on these characters relationships and not just action, people might actually care enough about these characters to want to go see more movies involving them.

And that's the biggest issue I have with Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman. I don't recognize any meaningful interpersonal relationships, be it between Superman and Batman, Wonder Woman and Batman, or Lex Luthor and Superman. Hell, I don't even care for the relationship between Superman and Lois. I feel like they're more friends-with-benefits than actual lovers. The chemistry between these characters is abysmal. The only exception to this, I think, is the relationship between Batman and Alfred in BvS, where there was some nuance and actual conversations.

For a film that touted the magnificent faceoff between Batman and Superman, these two characters barely exchanged lines. How the fuck did each one manage to avoid explaining their ideological principles to the other? Even if they hated each other, most rational people would at least try to understand that person's point of view by speaking to them. When the batmobile was stopped by Superman, that would have been a great moment to exchange opinions, but instead one came off threatening and the other asked about his blood.

Come the fuck on.

People don't only like Marvel movies because they're light-hearted romps. I can almost guarantee that most of what Marvel fans appreciate from those films is chemistry between characters, that which DC movies are sorely lacking.

Is that a different 'Junlge Book' than the one I keep seeing advertised because I thought that was coming out in a few months

The one this year is the Disney live action remake directed by Jon Favreau

WB's is based on the book more than the Disney film and is directed by Andy Serkis

i'm not going to pretend warner haven't made some poor choices in which creative projects to back

but wow reading them talk about focusing primarily on three strands: dc film universe, harry potter spinoffs and lego is fucking depressing. just pure assembly line cinema.

Goddamn, I'm impressed about how many stereotypically terrible things you managed to fit in here. Connect the TV universe, do so in a shitty, hackneyed way in order to instill "lightness", "brooding asshole". I'm shocked you didn't suggest selling to Disney.

Stereotypically terrible is exactly how I'd describe the entirety of the WB's little cinematic universe so far. Grimdark for grimdark's sake, terrible characterization of heroes, and nonsensical plot tropes that clearly don't resonate with the audience or critics.

But sure, my ideas are the terrible ones. I mean it's not like WB managed to fuck up what should have been cinematic gold amiright? It's not like they took two icons of the entertainment industry and somehow managed to completely miss the mark when making a movie about them...oh wait.

I guess in 2025 if super hero movies are still a thing. They don't want to touch GLC until 2020, what makes you think they'd reboot JL again after failing to launch a universe in 2008 and 2011, and hypothetically now?

Maybe stop making terrible movies?

Yeah, really, I'd love to go see an awesome Superman or Batman movie. WB just needs to actually make one.....

I do like a lot of WB's other movies though, and I hope they pull through this okay.

What will most likely happen is they keep Snyder but you will have A LOT of studio interference in every process of the film to ensure its maximum marketable and safe. That's going to make a potentially bad situation even worse of course.

Agreed. If Warners are not going to fire Snyder on JL, I'm betting the studio execs will exert much more control of the final cut and keep Snyder on a tighter leash.

Because it would damage more to continue a path that already looks grim after only two movies. I say drop the shared universe and make independent movies. They can't catch up to Marvel on this. They can't organize their shit with their tv shows, this is getting nowhere.

I really really really hope WW is good. That's the only thing I'm banking on.

BvS was terrible. I don't get it - How do you make something that could be so fun.... be not fun at all. It was crap. I was sad :(

Because when they greenlight these things, they are usually based of the strength of the filmmaker. For Jupiter Ascending, WB approached the Wachowski sisters to make a ....

Don't do this.

Get the guys that do The Flash on TV to direct the Justice League movie.

That show is the perfect mix of action, humor, and emotion.

The season finale last year... damn, what a fucking great episode. It had me in tears one second, and cheering the next.
