Hate to shit on your point, but the first thing I thought after I watched this was "So it's like a Star Wars Hunger Games"

How? I don't get it.

A group of rebels sent to steal the death star plans feels like hunger games?

Ummm. Were their AT-ATs later on in those movies or something that I missed?

Star Wars is literally inspired by Kurosawa samurai films so excuse my laughter....

That doesn't mean you put a literal samurai beating up stormtroopers with a wooden stick into the movie. :p Seemed a little silly to me, considering they're wearing armour.

Fake edit: Two consecutive Star Wars movies with female lead! Somebody somewhere is typing angry stuff right now.
More to ignore then. Movies needs some more female leads these days. Give young girls something else to look up to than models and celebrities.
The guards lead me to believe it could be the Emperor himself. They are never around to guard Vader, just Palpatine.
Yea, that would be my guess as well.

Not the plot as much. The cinematography and acting are giving me a familiar vibe.

That did absolutely nothing for me. I guess it doesn't help I thought A New Hope and The Force Awakens were dreadfully boring and the only Star Wars I really really like is The Phantom Menace.

I love science fiction movies and especially space travel movies but I just can't get excited for Star Wars.
Underappreciated worst post of the year award.

That humanoid droid looks very similar to the one that Finn pauses to look at on the way into Maz's bar in TFA

hyped for this. trailer looks amazing and it built up a base for the story. The story needs to be very interesting, because we know they "fail" at tthe end and only get the plans because vader and the emperor let them have it, so the ride needs to be amazing.

So.

Rogue One.

Looks great. Feels like Star-Wars.

This movie will make certain Rebels who are part of the group look like complete bad-asses. At the end, enter Vader.

At the end of the Vader vs Rebels fight it'll be painfully clear that Vader is, and always will be, the ultimate bad-ass.

Sold. Looks more legit than TFA. Yeah, I said it.

I agree. A "smaller", more grounded story(for Star Wars in 2016 at least) with Donnie goddamn Yen appeals to me more than what the TFA is. Of course, I still don't fully trust the writers, but I did like this trailer, and I think complaints about it looking cheap or whatever is nonsense. There's some really nice shots in there.

Well the franchise is pretty heavily inspired by Kurosawa films...

That and Disney is making an effort to cast Asian actors in all Star Wars movies going forward in an attempt to boost the box office in China and other Asian territories where Star Wars isn't as well known.

Not so bad when you consider that the Imperial army will later get punked out by a bunch of teddy bears.

I'm really hoping for the best for this movie. If it's a big success and we can start getting other kinds of genre movies set inside the same universe, the mind boggles.

Looks okay, it doesn't do much for me yet but we got plenty of time, I want to wait and see more from this first. It does seem a bit more grounded than regular SW films, will see how that works out

The siren and AT-AT lazer shots were like nails on a chalkboard for some reason.

Not that I think that's a bad thing as it definitely sets a tone that this will be a rougher experience.

I know. I get it. It just stood out to me because he sort of looks like a real samurai and he's asian. Just seems a little too close to reality is what I meant.

Jedi are literal samurai fighting with katanas (lightsabers) and using their bushido zen buddhist ethic (The Force) to help them in their struggles.

I can kind of understand what you mean by "they shouldn't literally...." but at the same time, the samurai DNA was so much in it from the beginning that I personally never thought to reject it.

Really love the tone, I'm up for Star Wars universe movies in a different register (that was the point of the expanded universe, wasn't it? except that Disney knows how to make $ out of it).

Lord Star Wars truly is back and its so glorious.

Looks amazing. With Garreth at the helm I actually expected the AT-AT scene to be a more impressive use of a low vantage point and scale because he is so good at it.

Still great tease.

Main actress is a bit cringe-inducing, just like Ridley. I really hop we don't get a second Mary Sue just for the sake of the "strong independent woman" thing...again.

This shot is amazing:

Is your dislike over her simply due to the fact that she is a strong woman?
Daisy Ridley was an excellent actress in TFA and from everything in the teaser Felicity Jones looks like she is going to do a great job as well.

Jesus they're really doubling down on the Superweapon plots huh? They're going to have Star Wars now synonymous with Death Stars.

Edit: Also I'm salty about this effectively erasing Kyle Katarn. Fuck you EU retcon, I like Kyle.

Im still excited for this but the trailer didn't particularly excite me.

It looks well shot and I'm sure it'll be entertaining but it didn't give me those feels like TFA and I don't think they actually showed off anything particularly exciting in the trailer.

Will still be there day one.

Wow what a jump to make. I think everything in this trailer was badass, loving the tone.

Yeah. Branching out from the "omg Jedi!!!" nonsense is a refresher. One of the reasons why I enjoyed the X-Wing books so much.
