I'm not hearing ANY heavy/Vader breathing at the end. Y'all imagining things!

Oh wow the cinematography is beyond jaw dropping. I mean seriously looks like a award contender.

All shot in the new Arri Alexa 65 (6K) camera.

Grieg Fraser is getting better and better. His past work include Zero Dark Thirty and Foxcatcher so expect to see some beuatiful work here.

Wow, hope more movies use that camera. Figured it was film. It helps that they are using OT era costumes and sets, but a times the cinematography looked much closer in style to the OT than TFA.

It's not really the camera that's responsible for beautiful images. It is a big part of it, but lighting, lens, composition, etc. choices are just as, if not more, important (luckily, they seem to have made a lot of great choices). There have been lots of mediocre/shitty looking movies shot on great cameras.

Alexa 65 is looking sharp as fuck, though.

Anyone else think Forest Whitaker walked out of a Fallout game with some power armor on?

Now that you mention it.

so, I just showed this trailer to Co-workers and wife. (Keep in mind I love this and think it looks great)

Reaction from everyone: "I dont understand, where are the charecters from the last one? When will we find out what happened to them!?"

Like seriously everyone acted all confused. When I explained to them this is a side film, the general thought was "oh... thats stupid, they are going to overdue it, we dont need star wars every year"

Also one person asked "is this like the star wars version of Hunger Games?"
We get 2-3 Marvel movies a year and Star Wars is way more popular than Marvel. Seems like a nonsensical complaint.

Good some of these shots look incredible. Super hyped for the movie

I hope they reveal nothing of darth vader, i want him to be a complete surprise

But got those youtube comments basically translate to 'i hate women in my star war'

I'm digging the trailer. Loved EP VII, I won't turn on it to impress others on GAF. I liked ROTS too FWIW. Star Wars is definitely back.

I wonder who will play young Leia or if they'll CGI her or if they just wont show that aspect of the story with the handing off of the Death Star plans to her leading into ANH.

Wasnt there rumors a year ago about a look like being filmed for scenes taking place in the past for TFA. That never panned out, but maybe they were for Rouge One?

I trust Disneys marketing machine to get the message across, that beign said I agree it will be fucking hard for anyone who doesnt pay attention to these films beyond a "Oh new star wars" level.

Ugh, dat makeup

Well, Cushing has such a unique and memorable face I'm not sure what else could be done except straight CG, as Mr. Cola suggested.

This CG is fantastic:

but could it be animated convincingly (not to mention would Cushing's surviving relatives even allow it)?

These movies imo are fan films. As long as you are trying to emulate what George did back in 1977 your picture will look like fan films. Hate the prequel trilogy as much you like atleast GL tried to do new things. And it still felt like SW movies. Episode vii and this feels like a fan trying to emulate GL's work. Best way to make another SW picture that doesn't look like a fan film is to something original again. Set it in a different timeline. Do new original story.

New and original don't mean shit on their own.

So you do not need the Force to beat the Empire. This movie will be far more aggressive that any Star Wars filsm since characters do not rely on the Force but on weapons and skills.

Idk man, if the main characters are sneaking on the Death Star how doesn't Vader the god notice their presence
Since the storm troopers are all clones these people should be easy to scoop out

Movie over ;)

Trailer was good, I'll be there day 1 for forced Boba cameo B^) do it Disney

If they're not Force users why would Vader notice them? He's not omniscient and the movie never suggested that he is.

The red guards make me think it's Palpatine, actually. The only time we ever see them is in ROTJ when escorting the Emperor

That looks like some kind of healing/life support pod in the middle, maybe. Maybe Vader has to regularly undergo treatment in some way and Palpatine is checking on him?

Yes, 2-3 movies that move the timeline forward, for the most part-- they don't tend to jump around like these side stories will.

I am not shocked people will be confused as to why this isn't the "next one after TFA".

Saying it's a nonsensical complaint is really dumb, what marvel does or doesn't with their properties has nothing to do with Star Wars, their opinion is based on this franchise.

Force sensitive doesn't mean Jedi.

They sure as hell will have force sensitive.

They have Vader, and another sith-like dude apparently, with his black cape.

Maybe had him as a silhouette or something. I dunno

I love the look of the Imperial commander. Hopefully this film genuinely breaks away from the formula of the main films so we can get more genre movies in the SW universe.

I'm sure people will quickly get used to the idea of these anthology films between main episodes. Nobody will ever get tired of SW as long as they don't dwell too long on periods we have already seen. It's logical that the first few films of the post-Lucas era try to recapture the essence of the OT, but they can't rely on that forever, there are only 3 films to steal from. I want to see the kind of stories we got with KOTOR, Republic Commando etc. Not everything has to involve Darth Vader or his spawn.

Well I'll be...would've sworn it was more like ten before ANH & TESB

10 years between ANH and TESB? Wha?

This is the timeline:
Year 0 being Episode I.

0 - The Phantom Meance
10 - Attack of the Clones
13 - Revenge of the Sith
32 - Rogue One
32 - A New Hope
35 - The Empire Strikes Back
36 - Return of the Jedi
66 - The Force Awakens

I think that is indeed The Emperor we see in that shot approaching what seems to be some sort of bacta tank (like the one Luke is in in Empire). Don't think that's Vader in there though. It could be that the first few years in the suit are a nightmare and he breaks it a lot or something forcing him into bacta tanks a lot at first. I also think we're definitely gonna get a Vader appearance. If not in this film then in another. Not using Vader is something Disney is neeeever gonna pass up on. There were reports of Hayden Christensen going with a team of stuntmen to England to practice sword fighting or....something.

Godzilla looked amazing but had acting that was fucking TRASH beyond Cranston

I don't know if I'd say the acting is trash... My problems with that film were just that the characters as a whole were not that compelling. I didn't care about anyone other than Cranston, but not really because of their performances, moreso the writing.

That shot is a mindfuck. How do you even sit down and decide, "hmmm, let's have the shadow of the plate sink away to reveal the death star. also add a star destroyer to create depth and scale!" Your first reaction is to think it's a classic scene-wipe effect, but there's a star destroyer on top of it..

Brilliant shot. Totally thought that the Death Star in shadow was just the background stars until the shadow began to recede.

Yeah, my brain hurt trying to figure out what I was looking at, haha. It's fantastic.
