Ben Mendelsohn is one menacing looking villain.

It's a teaser. We'll get more of the story and the ensemble in a full trailer

I get that, but it's a first impression. Selling this as all about her if it isn't is a weird choice, even as a teaser.

I really like the "A Star Wars Story" subtitle they're using. My first thought was the tone is awfully dark for Star Wars, but ESB was the same and this being a "story" allows for all kinds of things that I would be bothered by if they were in a numbered entry.

These movies imo are fan films. As long as you are trying to emulate what George did back in 1977 your picture will look like fan films. Hate the prequel trilogy as much you like atleast GL tried to do new things. And it still felt like SW movies. Episode vii and this feels like a fan trying to emulate GL's work. Best way to make another SW picture that doesn't look like a fan film is to something original again. Set it in a different timeline. Do new original story.

I can't agree about Episode VII. It was new enough to me, the story is going in a new direction, and it looked great. I didn't really get "fanfic" out of it. I do get that with this.

I guess from any perspective they can be called "fan films" as it seems that anything that isn't from the original creator is fan fiction.

Alexander Desplat, which is now my most anticipated thing about the movie after seeing the teaser. Man I really hope the next trailers are better.

I like Desplat but he's mostly good for slow, dramatic movies (ie: Benjamin Button, Tree of Life). Not sure if he can properly handle a big action score. We'll see...

No way. The cinematography alone in Ep VII is a billion years better than any prequel scene. In fact, Ep VII doesn't look like a fan film, it looks like a Star Wars film. This one has more humans with strange dresses, a blind samurai with a stick and works as a prequel, of course it's got a fan made vibe.

Fun fact but the scene with the running at around 1:10 was filmed over a couple of days at Canary Wharf underground station between 1am and 5am. Amazing, how they managed to pull it off in total secrecy!

I knew that looked like a subway station redressed. Been in that station a few times too

I'm so pleased that they seem to be putting "effort" into producing "good" movies. They really don't have to at all. Viewed the trailer a few times and it's just gorgeous. Can't wait.

interesting, didn't know that

I just saw the AT-AT's and thought they might show that planet getting decimated and then show the AT-AT that rey lived in

It's still possible, technically. We see Jakku after this movie takes place, and by then it's a desert world. Given we know of at least one Star Destroyer that crashed into the planet's surface, we can guess that whatever space battle took place above Jakku caused some pretty serious damage to the planet's ecosystem.

After TFA almost completely ignored them, I was expecting them to shove some prequel imagery into Rogue One. Maybe see a Naboo fighter flying around with an X-Wing, or some kind half clone trooper/stormtrooper battalion. You know, some garbage scenes they could throw in as an excuse to make more toys. But nope. It's all glorious ANH.

Hopefully they don't ruin it by including Hayden. Keep the prequels isolated and canon in name only, just to appease that part of the fan base. I'll forgive using O'Reilly again, since she's pretty much perfect for the part.

It's an extension of the SW universe and that's something that should be encouraged. I think some of your apathy stems from the fact that there's no notable returning characters or moneyshots in the trailer (e.g., Millenium Falcon, Vader helmet, etc.).

Wait, did TFA suddenly become terrible when I wasn't looking or something? This place loved that movie last time I checked.

Its the internet. This is the natural cycle. Popular thing comes out and is celebrated. Vocal minority hates popular thing. People swap sides

Not true at all. His Potter scores were superb with action.

...no. I just didn't see anything that personally excited me. We'll see. Also don't assume, it's a terrible way to have a conversation :p

Also its entirely possible this droid running with Luna and Felicity is Alan Tudyk

I get kind of a Sicario feel during the apparent ride-along scene she's having. Maybe they take a trip to Juarez.

Oh no, I agree and gather that. I'm just really impressed with how they thought of this.
Ah, alright gotcha. I imagine Edwards is a driving factor behind shots like that. The one thing they got definitely right in Godzilla was making him look gigantic.

Looks absolutely wonderful.

That said, I'm having a laugh at:

TFA Teaser: "OMG! Star Wars is BACK! Fuck the Prequels!"
RO Teaser: "OMG! Star Wars is BACK! Fuck Ep.VII!"

'Tis a vicious cycle for some Star Wars fans. ;)

*Tongue in cheek post, but I'm actually really surprised by the apparent dislike for Ep.VII I've seen just in this thread. Granted, I don't stay very active in SW threads, but it's kind of an eye-opener for me. I thought VII was outstanding :/

Well, had you read those threads in real time, you would have seen that TFA had people that weren't in your camp.

There were a TON of people (myself included) that didn't love TFA. I thought it was incredibly safe and pandered heavily to fans of the ANH, along with blatantly same-y story beats.

Funny, IMDB page doesn't list character names at all.

I almost thought the main character (Felicity Jones) was from the Imperial Assault Board game. But one is Jyn Erso, the other is Jyn Odan.

The trailer was really good, but this one being directed by Gareth Edwards gives me pause. Of the dude's 2 feature films, I've liked neither of them. Hopefully this one will benefit from better writing and the producers helping shepherd in a proper film though.

so, I just showed this trailer to Co-workers and wife. (Keep in mind I love this and think it looks great)

Reaction from everyone: "I dont understand, where are the charecters from the last one? When will we find out what happened to them!?"

Like seriously everyone acted all confused. When I explained to them this is a side film, the general thought was "oh... thats stupid, they are going to overdue it, we dont need star wars every year"

Also one person asked "is this like the star wars version of Hunger Games?"

Shot, Reverse Shot is a solid 75% of all prequel scenes. It's extremely lazy filmmaking.

Ah, alright gotcha. I imagine Edwards is a driving factor behind shots like that. If they got one thing right about Godzilla it was making him look gigantic.

Edwards is great at visuals, but terrible with actors. Godzilla was a disaster at the human level.

Hopefully he has that in check with Kennedy looking over his shoulder.

Kasdan worked on this script, right?

Are these people fans of the Marvel films?

That shot is a mindfuck. How do you even sit down and decide, "hmmm, let's have the shadow of the plate sink away to reveal the death star. also add a star destroyer to create depth and scale!" Your first reaction is to think it's a classic scene-wipe effect, but there's a star destroyer on top of it..
It looks like a starfield until the shadow moves off a bit. That's some fucking brilliant composition.

Bob Iger is going to be a staple in business textbooks going forward for nurturing Disney into the company with the culture that we see today. It's going to be very, very interesting to see what happens after he is replaced, especially with Staggs leaving.

I wonder who will play young Leia or if they'll CGI her or if they just wont show that aspect of the story with the handing off of the Death Star plans to her leading into ANH.

Do you guys think this movie will have any force stuff in it? Is Donnie Yen FS?

At most, we'll see Vader fucking shit up. The point of the movie is to not focus on jedi stuff. Maybe Donnie Yen is force sensitive, maybe he's just super skilled blind guy.
