Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Official Teaser Trailer

Does anyone know what's up with the black-armored Stormtroopers? Are they like Imperial Special Forces? Are they new for this film, or something from the expanded universe?

Making Star Wars reckon they're called Death Squad. So yeah, they're probably special forces of some kind.

The red guards make me think it's Palpatine, actually. The only time we ever see them is in ROTJ when escorting the Emperor

I'm thinking more some lackey bad guy approaching Vader (or someone else?) in some kind of bacta tank? Except it looks morel like it's cryogenic with the vapor...

I felt nothing. I think the movie will be good and I'm still excited, but that's the first time I've seen a new Star Wars trailer and didn't freak out.

It's hard for me to be terribly interested when I already know the outcome. The visual style is great, and I'll probably go just for the music and cinematography. And maybe to see Vader do something evil.

Love how abstract this shot it before you realize what it is.

That and I thought the visual style was bland as all hell personally. I dunno, it looks like a fan film with a big budget. Some may say that about Episode VII, but I'd disagree with that ten-fold. It just feels completely uninteresting at this point.

Loved his Harry Potter score.

Absolutely. They were phenomenal.

Jakku battle takes place AFTER/during Return of the Jedi. Plus the beach looks pleasant and not treacherous like Jakku.

interesting, didn't know that

I just saw the AT-AT's and thought they might show that planet getting decimated and then show the AT-AT that rey lived in

Because he was in the suit in Episode III?

Yes, but why is it important to have him in there again? We're not gonna be able to tell it's him anyway (I hope - they better not show his face, because that's NOT how Death Star I-era Vader looked).

Thought that was pretty great

I have a theory as to why she is being sent but if its true I imagine its very spoilerly so I wont say it, also as to why she was alone since 15.

That shot is a mindfuck. How do you even sit down and decide, "hmmm, let's have the shadow of the plate sink away to reveal the death star. also add a star destroyer to create depth and scale!" Your first reaction is to think it's a classic scene-wipe effect, but there's a star destroyer on top of it..

These movies imo are fan films. As long as you are trying to emulate what George did back in 1977 your picture will look like fan films. Hate the prequel trilogy as much you like atleast GL tried to do new things. And it still felt like SW movies. Episode vii and this feels like a fan trying to emulate GL's work. Best way to make another SW picture that doesn't look like a fan film is to something original again. Set it in a different timeline. Do new original story.

This will probably be taking place some 45ish years before The Force Awakens (30 between VI & VII and a guess of 15 years from IV to VI)

Not liking TFA as much as others loved is somehow minimized as being "edgy" or "influenced thought". GTFOOH with all that bullshit.

My thoughts on that movie were documented on GAF the first week the film released. I guess I was pre-emptively "edge", right? 🙄

Newsflash: Everyone experiences films differently.

Only thing i wasnt so sure about was parts of the dialogue and the star wars rift at the beginning and end, which is an entirely hopeful rift for me, but didnt seem to fit the dour nature of the trailer. But that being said they have to keep reminding people this is a star wars film.

Without the star destroyer you don't get a feeling for the immense scale. In 3D the perspective will also be a bit more clear.

Can you imagine all the YouTube channels that are frantically making "the things you missed from the Rogue One trailer" videos right now?

I'm not sure how I feel about Forest Whitaker in this yet. The setting and cinematography were absolutely gorgeous though. I think once I see Alan Tudyk floating a one liner in the full trailer, I will be fully hyped for this though!

Tudyk is the droid character. Motion capture!

This looks amazing. I rewatched it and it sounds like or at least partly like this has Dirty Dozen spin. Which will be spectacular.

Looks very good!

I love The Force Awakens, so another promising Star Wars movie this December has me very excited.

Also, Donnie Yen being in any movie catapults it to "watch" territory, no matter how good or bad.

Looks absolutely wonderful.

That said, I'm having a laugh at:

TFA Teaser: "OMG! Star Wars is BACK! Fuck the Prequels!"
RO Teaser: "OMG! Star Wars is BACK! Fuck Ep.VII!"

'Tis a vicious cycle for some Star Wars fans. ;)

*Tongue in cheek post, but I'm actually really surprised by the apparent dislike for Ep.VII I've seen just in this thread. Granted, I don't stay very active in SW threads, but it's kind of an eye-opener for me. I thought VII was outstanding :/
