This looks awesome to me.

That said, it doean't seem like it has much crossover appeal? Like, I don't see the toy line (if any) from this movie being popular. Know what I mean?

Also, the tone is very different from say TFA which was obviously a huge hit. This seems more "for the fans" without explicitly aiming to do that. It just doesn't scream "mainstream crossover hit" to me?

maybe they scrapped together a super battledroid and put a different droid brain in it? Logically there would be tons of them just lying around.

I think that is indeed The Emperor we see in that shot approaching what seems to be some sort of bacta tank (like the one Luke is in in Empire). Don't think that's Vader in there though. It could be that the first few years in the suit are a nightmare and he breaks it a lot or something forcing him into bacta tanks a lot at first. I also think we're definitely gonna get a Vader appearance. If not in this film then in another. Not using Vader is something Disney is neeeever gonna pass up on. There were reports of Hayden Christensen going with a team of stuntmen to England to practice sword fighting or....something.

If there is one thing I would bet my house on, it's that Hayden Christensen will never be in a SW movie again.

China + Donnie Yen = China starts caring about Star Wars

It's the International Trojan Horse!

I fully expected a Vader teaser, since he is rumored to be in this movie (and he should be).

They'll save that for the full trailer

Star Wars doesn't need "cross over" appeal, because Star Wars isn't anything other than mainstream as fuck.

That's not a bad thing, It's just literally the most popular film franchise in the world. "For the fans" is basically the same thing as "mainstream hit" because being a fan of Star Wars IS mainstream.

The point of the stand alone films is to have the universe, the properties, and be able to explore new genres in them, so some films with be super serious, some will be comedies, they are obviously intended to make money but the real risk taking will exist in those stand alones and not in the episodes.

Think of it a bit like a sandbox for talented directors to work in, where the tools they can use are fucking star wars, i like that. Some ill dislike, some will be lukewarm but some will hopefully be fucking great.

The ships and droids of the CUS are stilm in use shortly before The Battle of Yavin. There is a scene in the Tarkin Novel where a hacked droid-battlecruiser and vulture droids attack a imperial base on Geonosis.

People on are already complaining about another female lead :(

I actually like the more dark tone of the trailer and the main hero looks great so far. Any idea where in the timeline this takes place?

He gets a bad wrap. I thought he was coming into his own by RotS but the writing and story was so shit that he couldn't really shine.

I guess watching the Clone Wars let me know what the character could have been.

If they are using a droid to go and steal the plans it makes sense its a droid used by the Empire.

What if that's the emperor kneeling to Snoke? That would be the dumbest of retcons.
I hope kylo ren takes out snoke and completes his journey to the dark side. Snoke was a just a dumb idea IMO. They tried to emulate ANH and they needed a emperor type character. That's why they made snoke.

I honestly have no idea how Disney approaches something like that with that actors history.... There was going to be an Anakin force ghost scene in TFA at some point that did actually involve Christensen. If they're just gonna put him in the suit and kill some rebels I would be fine with it.

Hayden is a great actor and he had the right "look" for Anakin -- He did what he could with the material. I would never level my many complaints with those movies at the actors, who are all great actors.

Not a fan of Gareth Edward's prior work, but I'm sure Lucasfilm will deliver something respectable. Regardless of overall quality, it'll be neat seeing a lot of the Original Trilogy's iconography back on the big screen; OT Stormtroopers and Star Destroyers will always be some of my favourite designs. It took me until The Force Awakens final trailer to climb aboard the hype train and that movie was great, so I'll approach this entry with cautious optimism.

For the next trailer I'm hoping for more Death Star alarm and less piano, because fuck that whole shtick.

I think that's why they're pushing the "A Star Wars story" tag, to really hammer home that this isn't a mainline numbered entry.

Anyway, as precedent for the tone, this doesn't look any more bleak than ESB. They sold a shit load of ESB toys. I personally had a ton of them.

He was almost in TFA briefly.

Well, one of many concept art pieces involved a Hayden ghost but it never went beyond that. They went so far as to create an Anakin ghost that was half machine so that they could obscure the face and presumably recast, but that idea didn't make it either. Even Ewan McGregor was a late, minuscule addition to TFA and he was the only thing people liked from the prequels. There is just no way they would risk bringing Christensen back after the reception his performance got, you can bet that everyone at Lucasfilm wishes they could undo his appearance in ROTJ so they could cast someone else without hesitating.

I wouldn't expect any prequel actors to reprise their roles in new films except McDiarmid and McGregor.

I was gonna give people the benefit of the doubt, but man even people who frequent the Internet really have no idea what is going on here.

It's not their fault. And I know not everyone cares about it as much as we do. But everywhere I go people are confused about what is happening. I tell my family (who really enjoy the Star Wars movies) "hold up, what the hell is this? This doesn't look like Force Awakens" all over the Internet:"Where is Rey? Another Death Star? Etc." we are going to be explaining what this movie is for the next 8 months, then people will go to the theater and still be confused.

It will make a ton of money, but I think the overall reception will be interesting to see. If people are confused and angry I wonder if they will change their strategy.

Looking pretty good. A little jarring to see the original trilogy setting in modern filmmaking, but still looking good.

It actually doesn't look that jarring at all to me. It looks fantastic. One thing I couldn't get out of my head though while watching it was The Hunger Games vibe. Mostly just the whole rebellion and look of the last shot though.

This looks infinitely better than the Force Awakens.

This trailer is so gooooooood.

I wasn't impressed by TFA upon my first viewing (loved the way it was filmed, but the actual story and characters were just okay to me, and it felt more like a remake of ANH than anything original). This movie however looks like it will be the first to add something truly new, even though it's still going to have another Death Star. Or rather, I guess the first Death Star.

lots of folks want nothing from the prequels to bleed into these films at all. like me, for instance.

so i'd rather have vader never take his mask off and just be JEJ doing the voice and that's all. Also, given that they hired that wrestler who is rumored to play vader in this movie I suspect they won't even bother with Hayden in this film.

I could be wrong, i haven't followed the production of this all that much
