Save the joke? That was a bit.

They planned that and they fell flat. Not worth getting made about unless you're wanting her to be a competent campaigner--then you should be pissed.

I just don't understand how she's continues to fuck up on a fundamental level.

Pretty much this. Also, this wasn't a campaign event. This was what is essentially a dinner meant to roast the mayor that's held every year. I don't really see any local outlets making this a thing yet to tell the truth.

How do you know that was a joke planned beforehand by De Blasio and Clinton?

Because its (a) clearly a timed bit with both of them up on stage and (b) the event is one where people do shitty "funny" sketches like this.

I don't even think most white people have even heard of cp time. I thought it's more of inside joke almost black people (I am black). But yeah De Blasio probably thinks since he has a black wife and kids he's allowed to say that lol nope not the case.

In 7th Grade, I had a charismatic black American History / Social Studies teacher who would regularly make jokes about CP time.

I think it's a little different when de Blasio says it, though.

Even if it was planned...Hillary didn't say it, it's not her problem - bottom line.

That said, I wish it didn't occur because:

- Deblasio isn't a black dude, shouldn't be invoking any part of black culture ever, and especially not for political purposes, and especially not for political lulz

- This just looks bad by proxy and enables people to ignore the campaign and campaign issues in the name of "offense".

Even assuming this is like one of those political dinners/roasts, the timing is just bad.

Why is she catching heat?

That's a pretty misleading title.

De Blasio makes a racist joke and Hilary tries to save him is much more accurate

Why is Hillary catching heat for this?

why is hillary catching heat when she tried to save the joke?

i don't even like hillary and here i am defending her

Did you watch the video? It looks like some type of rehearsed skit.

This is confusing. Did de Blasio make this "joke" off the cuff or was it rehearsed beforehand with Clinton? The latter makes most sense, judging from the way he said it ("...I ... was on ... CEE PEE time ..." And then the actor next to them says I don't like that. The crowd gasps. Clinton shrugs. De Blasio blushes. And Clinton says "cautious politician time." It's unlikely that Clinton could come up with something so quickly.

Anyway, I was hoping it was off the cuff because that's, like, one of the dumbest things I've seen a politician say. How could anyone think that would be funny?

I'm not black. I'm going out on a limb here: I think it's a stretch to say it's "racist." But it certainly is fucking stupid and insensitive.

Its obviously a skit, Hilary wasn't "saving" Bill. I doubt they even came up with any part of it. I wonder who wrote it though and if they were black or not

Hmm, looking at the actual article that seems to be the case. Hard to imagine what was going on in their and their staff's minds when they thought that joke was a good idea

Note the time.

Pretty harmless joke IMO but I guess even Bill DeBlasio and Hilary Clinton need to walk on eggshells.

...

This is one of the most egregious attempt to create controversy through association that I've seen lol.

I mean the thread title is correct, Hillary IS catching heat over it, but the way some people have acted, Hillary wrote the joke.

I mean unless I'm mistaken and she did lol, but seriously, you could tell that she was taken aback by it.

A few things. It's clear from the video that the entire thing was scripted, including the clarification that he was referring to cautious politician time.

Second, as a colored person, I'd like to say that the use of the term colored people time is not offensive. If we are to be completely accurate, the term comes from being a part of any number of cultures that are not time-oriented, but the term has not been offensive in any context I've seen it used.

So let's calm down the outrage here.

Yeaah.... calling this "her" fuckup is stretch armstrong levels of reaching IMO. He looks stupid, she tried to save it. But that's about all. A bad joke that fell flat.

Not that you are wrong but you do realize that De Blasio is married to a black woman and that his kids are basically "black" as well? It's understandable for him to have some screw ups at times. As someone else hilariously said, "he forgot he wasn't at home."

Read what? The damage control?

In my and other people's defense, the stuff quoted in the OP does not make it clear at all that it is a planned skit. And you associate politicians a lot more with speeches than with planned 'humorous' skits.

what ? that's exactly what he meant

EDIT: OK seriously did anyone read the article? it's a skit. they followed a script. this was planned.

Yeah it's pretty obvious unless he's assumming the audience would think of another term cp time would refer to. I can't think of any which would be positive.

you got a bunch of bernie fans itching to damage hillary in any way so don't expect them to drop it. same goes for the republicans.

for the record, I don't think this is a thing.

But she wasn't surprised by the joke because it was a planned bit she was a part of and participated in.

Sorry what did Hillary do wrong exactly?

Yeah, I'm not sure why Hillary is "catching heat" for this, as the title says. What exactly did she do wrong?

Also... I simply don't believe this thing was scripted, or at least, not that line. These types of things don't happen in scripted events.

deBlasio's fuckup

He forgot he wasn't black/not at home.

You wouldn't let someone who just endorsed you get into trouble - that's why Hillary saved it.

Oh ok.

Comedic genius mi abuela spontaneously came up with her "save" and they weren't redoing a poorly acted out bit.

You ever notice how comedians always have funny misunderstandings with talk show hosts on late night? Purely spontaneous stuff.

Also, wrestling is real.

I'm glad this is the person I'm force to vote for.

Never heard the term either. Or even why she is in trouble for it.
