Never heard of CP. I've heard of "Black People Time". For a moment I thought he meant Chinese People Time... But that would mean he's an hour early

That's very true - those terms are used in academic discourse in appropriate ways, but they've been appropriated (irony) to be used as blunt cudgels to stifle speech in the general public as it stands (and academia is just happy to be relevant, so they don't care)

Yeah, seeing the way the valid concept of privilege has become a total panchreston in the last few years, such that any disagreement about the nature of things by a white person can be practically summarily dismissed if it can be connected even tenuously to the concept, has been simultaneously fascinating and frustrating.

I actually never knew that CP Time was a phrase...the more you know.

Either way, yeah he slipped up and should just apologize. But the dude's track record pretty much defends him from any racism allegations to be honest.

Couldn't he had just say I'm running in New York time? That would have just absolved everything

There wouldn't be any joke with that, so no.

This was a scripted joke that plays on your expectation that CP Time means colored people time, so you're aghast that he would say that. Then you find out that his character in the skit meant cautious politician time instead, so you laugh at him for being an out of touch/old/white dude who accidentally said something racist without meaning to.

That's the intention anyway. Most people think they pulled it off terribly. :P

Does any one on GAF hang around black people. I get it, most of you guys have never heard this term before but it's common enough to be recognized if you consistently hung around black people

If anything, this thread has taught me that every minority seems to have a version of CPT joke. Something I truly did not know. Thanks, GAF.

But on the flip side this. I've never heard Chinese people time.

Also ehh @ this all.

Hillary took the high road....and blamed de Blasio

Hillary Clinton’s response to a racially charged comedy sketch with Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York on Saturday night was simple: It’s all his fault.

“Well, look, it was Mayor de Blasio’s skit,” Mrs. Clinton told Cosmopolitan magazine. “He has addressed it, and I will really defer to him because it is something that he’s already talked about.”

Hillary considered part of the skit: what a monster, last thing we need is someone like her shitting things up
Hillary not considered part of the skit: glad to know we can trust her to hold herself responsible for the repercussions of her actions, last thing we need is someone like her shitting things up

What a delightfully politician's response. Cuomo has the power in NYS anyway.

Look for the silver lining: repeated misuse of those concepts quickly identifies someone as likely not worth any further time engaging. If you play the probabilities, it's a convenient time saver.
