Stellaris - Paradox Dev Studios new sci-fi grand strategy game

Pretty good Canadian pricing on the Steam editions, all things considered.
Also, Looks like they listened to my dlc/pre-order race suggestion. one of them is called "Shadowy Anthropoid" and I suggested something similair to the Shadows from Babylon 5 on their forum :D

I love this. Good work.

No galactic campaign is complete without Shadows or Shadow-equivalents.

Will those arachnid species in the nova edition be DLC later on? Don't really fancy paying extra just for them

Yes, but they were still very much playable!

I dunno about HOI3. It was playable, yes, but it wasn't quite there, IMO. EU4/CK2 were enjoyable, but IMO, especially EU4 had a lot of issues first couple of months. These games are quite complex so its not surprising, but after enduring years of buggy launches, I am thinking 3-4 months wait would be good.

I am not sure I'll hold with my resolve though since Stellaris looks their best game so far!

Galaxy Edition got. No half-assing this space program. Going whole-ass.

I'm kind of curious about the book. Probably won't be any good. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Pre-ordered the Nova edition on GMG with the April code. At $40 may as well go for it since that's about what I was planning on spending anyway.

Still silly that the base game is up for $45 there.

Anyway, excited to really try for real my first Paradox title.

Paradox in the past released preorder items post-release as DLC as with EU:IV if you want them so it's likely the same will happen with Stellaris.

Also for the others unaware, the species in the preorder are simply cosmetic portraits/animations, it is not exclusive species with its own mechanics. All game mechanics are in the base game, ethos, traits, everything, when you start a new game, it can generate (or you can create) a species of all of its traits and assigns a cosmetic "identity" to it. There are already many of them in the base game, and all of them have a sort of procedural generator that changes them with some variations.

Wonder if one of the races could be close to an Amnioni (GAP series)?
Love the name of their ships and their "genetic imperialism" drive. One of the 5 new races makes me sortof think of that.

Fanatic Collectivist Xenophobe fungi-people might be the way to go.

Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester (@TheWesterFront) has been posting a lot of pictures on Twitter today from a new game he started. He selected "randomize empire" and ended up with a charismatic xenophobe :s

How long does a multiplayer game take in EUIV? Can it be done in one session?

Cause I might be down for some crazy GAF Stellaris action after a round or two of single player.

Though I'm guessing based off the weekly stream it actually takes quite awhile, might have to schedule sessions like you would a raid night.

Hating you with a smile? A species of bankers I take it.

It depends on playing speed, but playing around 3,5 hours a week it usually takes us a month or two to finish a game, and by finish I mean get to the point where the winner of the game is obvious, not get to 1821.

I've started a game in EUIV, after watching a load of quill18 vids. It looks great, but it feels so overwhelming I haven't a clue what to do first and I've ended up turning it off and then watching more videos instead. :D

So we're finishing the next multiplayer game after I join?

There are no winners in Stellaris.
“So the last phase of the game, we throw a challenge at the player. Say you’re 250 years in and there's not much challenge against you, you’ve probably won. At this point there is a bunch of disasters that can happen,” explains Anward.

If you are experimenting in extremely fast ship technology - jump drives - then you might actually bore a hole into another dimension. Then the people there might decide that they like your dimension and they will come in and try and devour you.

“What that looks like is an empire called the Unbidden, energy beings, they spawn and they will start spreading and conquering and just devouring all life from your dimension until you stop them or perish.”

I have no idea how to play EUIV, but I still play it. Just role-play you're an incompetent ruler and then when you die just continue the save as the nation that took you out. My favorite part is just watching alternate history play out and *few* times *I* do something cool.
