It is pretty safe to say after the reviews that CW will top just about every number that BvS got.
Except for weekend drops. BvS will have to be content with having those higher numbers.

So a 1.3 billion increase from Winter Soldier? Lol

I mean yeah it's got a ton of Marvel characters in it but that's just too staggering of an increase.

Yeah people are losing their minds. It sounds like its a damn good film but its not fucking hitting 1.4b. No way that would be another 2x multiplier after WS already did that.

I would love to see it do 1B.

It does that and Ill be fucking going nuts that a Cap America movie broke the damn 1B club man. What a time to be alive!

Disney is still reeling from AoU which GAF deemed a miserable bomb of epic proportions. Hopefully CW makes a profit and doesn't put them out of business.

No one sees this as the third film in the Cap trilogy. This is Avengers 2.5 with Black Panther and Spidey.

civil war not beating age of ultron would be a fucking injustice

if they can put more spider-man into the marketing it would definitely happen, I think

It's a Captain America movie, but people are going to be talking about it like they did with Avengers 1

But nobody's percieving it as a Captain America movie. It's what we've been talking about for the past half-page. It's an Avengers flick, and it's being sold as one.

Yet, in the end, the title still says Captain America. Even if it is being sold as an Avengers film, his name is still on the title so it will get ranked with the other Cap films for grosses.

The fact that this is being looked at as an Avengers film could be read two different ways.

Either Cap is such a strong and awesome character that all these other characters play supporting roles to him, or he is not a strong enough character to lead his own film so he needs the support for the films to succeed.

And we're providing a preview to one of the more pedantic arguments that will consistently break out in the coming months, heh.

People are gonna probably be like "you can't give this to Cap," and they're gonna be like "It's his name on the movie" and someone will post a gif of Spider-Man and someone else will post a pic of Steve saying "I can do this all day" and eventually people will just start captioning posts over that Cap & Tony meme-comic that ends in CIVIL WAR and then someone will point out it says "Captain America" in front of CIVIL WAR and then they'll post a bootleg cam gif of an awesome scene in the movie and someone will whine about spoilers, and we'll have to call a medic to bring the syringes to deal with the spoilerphobia outbreak and once that dies down someone will say "Can you believe a Cap movie did this?" and someone else will say "It was an Avengers movie" and then a guy will be like "His name is in the title!" and someone will post a gif of Black Panther being a badass and then someo

I will post a pic of Hawkeye since no one else will.

Well, some arguments like that come up with regards to the first Avengers film. Many discount it as a sequel to all the other films, which is technically true, but many will also say it is the first in a series so it should be counted that way.

Which I am surprised arguments like that haven't cropped up about BvS yet. Do we count it as its own stand alone thing, MoS 2, a Batman film, or a Justice League film?

I am in the middle between MoS 2 and its own thing.

WS did 714M WW. CW missing 1B would be on the same scale as BvS missing 1B. WS out grossed MoS a few years back.

Yup. It needs to cross that billion dollar mark.

I was confused, but with the marketing and these reviews, Marvel obviously expects Avengers money from this.

Same with BvS. Sure, you could call it a Man of Steel sequel, but putting Batman at the front (billion dollar franchise) and Justice (League) in the title pointed to bigger expectations.

Meh, the other characters are just supporting Black Panter since that's why I'm going to go see the movie. I don't care what name is in the title.

Really it's a smart movie by Marvel to sneak another Avengers movie out that really from Cap's pov. It elevates CA at the box office to give them another billion dollar character on paper.

And then we get a Captain America is a Mary Stu thread, and we burn the whole thing down.

Cap can't be a Mary Sue, his whole origin is that he was a litle squirt that kept getting his ass kicked and was too pathetic to be seriously considered by the army.

Agreed. I also think its not going to make as much money as we expect simply because this years box office is in decline. Not many films broken past 1bn.

I'm going to say beating Iron Man 3 is guaranteed, and Age of Ultron worldwide is definitely on the table. As has been said, regardless of the story/themes and framing, this is functionally an Avengers movie. An Avengers movie with more hype leading into it than Ultron. And fucking Spiderman joining the gang. It's going to be huge.

That extra $100,000,000 to beat Avengers 1 though... That's going to be interesting. I'm not quite convinced it will hit, but honestly it wouldn't surprise me that much.

Beating Jurassic World... That'll be tough as fuck.

And anyone who thinks this will come within spitting distance from TFA on any major metric (outside of Chinese total) is completely and totally fucking insane. $2b won't happen. At all. The only movies with a chance of doing that in the next decade have Avatar in the title. And who knows how the fuck those will do.

Anyway. I'm going to put my prediction at... ~1.45b.

Are they not allowed to market Spider-Man? Will he show up in marketing after the movie's released?

As Ghaleon said, he was in the last trailer.

They're definitely saving him to build up excitement. We got that little tease to leave everyone wanting more, but to also not spoil his whole role in the film. They'll probably start plopping him into TV spots just before or just after the movie hits though.

Civil War is going to beat The Avengers; just have a feeling those reviews will go a long way. Along with pitch perfect marketing storm RN.

I don't know. If the Russo's continue this streak they're on, I could see one of the Infinity War movies getting there.

To do $2B global, with an AoU market-split they'd need to:

out-gross Avengers (high domestic Marvel) domestically by around $30M for a total of $654M (doable)
beat AoU (highest intl. Marvel) by $400M internationally for a total of $1.35B (no chance that's going to happen at all).

Assuming an Avengers-like split they'd need to:
beat Avengers by $200m for a total $820M (nope.avi)
pull in $1.18B intl. (maaaaaybe).

So what I'm saying is... Nah. As big as this and Infinity War pt. 1 and pt. 2 will be, they're not going to suddenly catapult over Fast 7 by $200,000,000 intl. or clear Avengers 1 by the same amount domestically.

How AoU did money-wise?

~1.4B WW, $460M US domestic and just shy of $950M international.

AoU had a pretty large drop off from the first Avengers film. Over 160m is pretty significant...to compare Dark Knight Rises dropped about 80m from Dark Knight and that had to deal with the psycho that shot up a theater on opening night which definitely could've hindered it's BO performance throughout its run.

I'm guessing CW will end up with close to double BvS' final box office gross.

And Barbershop 3 will do what Straight Outta Compton did.

At least unlike Ultron, Civil War isn't opening on a day that is potentially going to hamper opening numbers due to a significant national event going down in the same day.
