Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

i think its more likely that we see the Sony Japan RPG at E3 than the new Sucker Punch Game
You should update your OP.

True, but you'd have thought putting it off much longer would put it at risk of leaking. Also they're trying to hire, and it's difficult if your project and therefore studio is under the radar at the moment.
SCEA said the SP game is a good chunk behind Sony Bend's game. So E3 2016 is unlikely. More like PSX 2016 or E3 2017.

Link?

I am surprised they'd open say this, but I am equally not surprised given how long Bend have been trying to make something. You'd hope they might be nearing something to show.

Not just at E3, Sony has a bunch of unreleased games that are expected to be released in 2016, its actually too many gaems lol. This is their expected 2016 lineup:

Amplitude (Jan 5, published by Harmonix but still a PS IP)
Hardware Rivals (Jan 5)
MLB 16: The Show (Mar 29 )
Ratchet & Clank (Apr 12)
Alienation (April 26)
Uncharted 4 (May 10)
Shadow Of The Beast (May 17)
Kill Strain
Drawn To Death
Wattam
Bound
Dreams (Beta at least)
GT Sport
Horizon: Zero Dawn
The Last Guardian
What Remains of Edith Finch
Everybody's Golf
Gravity Rush 2
The Tomorrow Children

And also these PS VR IP's are expected to be released in 2016 as well

RIGS
The Modern Zombie Taxi Co.
VR Worlds
Tumble VR
Rush Of Blood
Playroom VR

Im sure some will be delayed to 2017 though
That’s a really nice variety of games.

Seriously want SSM to show GoW4, and now another partnership game, one of which isn't even out. Come to think of it, did the games they show last year even come out yet save for Uncharted 4, which will come out next month?

Isn't Guerrilla split into 2 teams? One was on Horizon and the other use to do the Killzone franchise. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw another Killzone or perhaps they are working on something else.

Personally I think the Bend game will be announced and launched this year or early next year. I feel it's pretty much done but they've sat on it for a while.

Scott Rohde : (Sucker Punch) is somewhere in that process also. They're on the earlier end of that process (compared to Bend).

Cheers for that. Yeah, that's the exact situation in which they'd say something like that, not like a manicured PR-man-offscreen style interview. :P

I can still see them announcing SuckerPunch's title, especially since that was in December. 6 months represents a significant chunk of development.

They're like ND in the sense that they have two teams, but that second team is very small and is more about doing building the foundation for a game until until the other team has completed their game and can help them bring their vision to life. For example, Horizon didn't kick into full production until Shadow Fall was completed. But it's technically been in development since 2010.

First Light actually made me want a "wide-linear" traversal focused action adventure game from them more than an open-world game, especially that last few story sequences.

That's what I want to, hoping this is how Uncharted 4 and Horizon are laid out. Exploration, yet focused...

GG does have two teams, but if they're structured the same way Horizon was developed, a new Killzone is ways out. The 2-team structure GG had was a very small preproduction team working on the second project while the bulk of the studio works on the main project.

Bar some secret collaboration where Amsterdam is working with Cambridge on a new Killzone, I don't expect to hear anything about their 2nd project till 2017 earliest.

Sony Bend's game entered full production January last year. Most big-budget AAA game these days take anywhere from 2 to 2.5 years of full production to get their game out.

Not to mention it's been implied already that Bend suffered through at least 2 cancellation of projects, and what they have now is their 3rd rodeo. In other words, it's very likely close to 2 years of work have gone down the drain.

There's no merit for Sony to hold on a finished game for this long, especially since Sony has been announcing 2017 games like Detroit and Dreams. If it was ready, Sony would clearly prioritise announcing Bend's game over games that aren't finished.

Well, I see Sony holding. Sony has 4 events throughout the year, and while Sony first-party announcements are not equal across the board for all those events, Sony does make an effort to at least have 6-7 big 1st-party announcements for their American/European events, and some bread crumbs for PSX/TGS.

My dream is that Polyphony Digital has had a secret small team of like 20 people working on a PSN reboot of Omega Boost. Would be an amazing and fan-servicey announcement.

I really think I'm just dying for Polyphony to work on something besides GT. I understand that it's a tentpole franchise and they'll probably never not have a new one in the works, but Polyphony is a huge studio that I'm sure has plenty of ideas.

Good points on both Killzone and Bend. I hadn't considered the exact details.

Does Sony have enough announcements for 4 events?

E3 needs 2 or 3 big ones. I can't seem them doing Paris Games Week and Gamescom, so that is one less. Maybe we'll see some more collaborations, especially has they now have a good market share.

I feel like Sony's 2016 announcements will consist of:

"Big Games"
Bend - E3
GOW4 - E3
From Software collab - E3 or TGS
New VR game fron London - Paris or PSX

"Small Games"
PixelOpus new game - Paris or PSX
Santa Monica Collab - PSX
Ovosonico game - Paris

I'm sure there will be a surprise or two in there somewhere.

If we're talking strictly first-party, they have maybe 5-6 big announcements a year? Enough for 2 events, give or take.

But when mixed in with 3rd-party exclusives, smaller titles, etc, they do have a relatively hefty announcement lineup. This was last year's.

Isn't Guerilla Cambridge working on RIGS for PSVR and it's a launch title too, no?

Yeah, but Steven der Heide (SF's director) last year was noted to have been visiting Cambridge's team once or twice according to his Twitter.

And an old Cambridge job listing talked about working on a multi-million selling IP, which obviously referred to Killzone.

Granted, it could easily not mean anything substantial, but there's some strings to pull on.

You should update the list because some of the games are no more PS exclusives. Among them...

Attack on Titans (which has announced also a release on Xbox One and PC/Steam)
The Legend of Arslan was also release for Xbox One.

Resistance got a new trademark in Europe a couple of years back. It's a long shot but you never know.

... Definitely Killzone.

Yeah, I'll do a cleanup once E3 rolls around. Right now there's nothing interesting in the announcement front for me to bother.

Main purpose is to highlight the overall announcement landscape that can be expected to an extent.

They could have something else up their sleeves. Without exaggeration, PD has around 5-6 studios right now.

Eh, that's a stretch. The Explore studios in LA/Amsterdam aren't dev houses, but collaboration hubs for all the GT-related partnerships Kazunori signs with all the manufacturers.

It might be possible that one of the Ateliers might have something else, but it's also clearly working on GT.

Cambridge did the expansions and DLC maps for Killzone SF, they're likely taking over the franchise.

I'd like to see Sucked Punch make a super hero Deus Ex personally. Keep the levels smaller than Infamous open world's, but make them denser with more varied content.

Second Son released 2 years ago. I don't think it would be unreasonable to announce their new game at E3 this year and have it release next year.

I suspect that Sucker Punch is going through a bit of a restructuring and didn't have a proper transition in place after completing Second Son.

This explains the layoffs and the fact that we haven't seen their new game yet. I bet it's taking longer than many hoped, likely a new IP.

If Crash ever gets comes back, it'll be a re-release of the first four games on PSN. And then maybe we'll get a new platformer but rights issues are tricky and they need to find the right development house which is easier said than done.

Sony would be unbelievably foolish to do all this Crash teasing for a PSN rerelease. E3's a time where big things are announced so IF they're announcing something related to Crash, I'm thinking it might be a new game. Maybe they'll anounce a PSN release along with a new game announcement but it's still up in the air.

If PS1 classics comes to PS4. You can bet your house the Crash Bandicoot titles will be among the first to hit the PS4.

he said this 3 years ago in 2013. He made a list with Third Party Studio that work on exclusive Ps4 Games.

So far most of those came true - however there were 2 Studios that he didn't name directly/or wasn't allowed

So instead of telling us the names of these 2 western studios, he made codenames

Lockstarter and Lazyeye

Lockstarter = Rockstar

Lazyeye = Activision

Wait, so it's Rockstar? The same one that made GTA?

Or is Lazyeye some sort of new developer?

Nobody really knows what those codenames mean, they're just guesses.

I highly doubt Rockstar and Activision are making any exclusives.

I was just assuming Rockstar because that's the only developer I could think of with that name. Plus, they're owned by Take 2 so it would have been impossible.

And yeah, I was researching "Lockstarter" and "Lazyeye" to see what popped up and got no results. Could they just be two new studios?
