Just back from seeing it.

Really enjoyed it but honestly wish it was a bit longer- things are a bit set-piecey at times. Bill Murray was great, so was Kingsley. Whole cast tbh.

I took my Mother to the movie. We both really enjoyed it.

We saw bunch of 3 to 8 year olds at the movie... They were all fine.

There are about two or three scenes that could scare toddlers.

Just watched it. It was pretty ok I guess. Nothing special about it. Christopher Walken was good. 3D sucked so much ass as usual waiting for the 3D trend to end so movies are bright and clear again.
Is there.. some reason you didn't just see it in 2D?

Was a fan of the animated film and found all the new voices minus scarjo to be good in this film. Can easily say it's one of the better remakes in recent years.

Man this is one pretty movie. Gorgeous throughout and the special effects are phemonemal.

Other than that, I don't think it was anything amazing, but it was a nice way to spend a couple of hours.

Just got back from it, no Civil War trailer unfortunately.

It was fun, but with flaws. I can't blame the Mowgli actor for delivering some stilted lines, but they still sounded awkward.

The credits were fantastic, they should've put the whole Wanna be Like You song they used there in the movie though.

Also, lol at what Mowgli picked up just before Christopher Walken showed up.

I must say I didn't feel much for the movie, no big flaws but it didn't click with me either.

However it was worth it just for the Dolby Cinema experience though, never heard of it before and it was really awesome. Best 3D experience I've had so far.

The Jungle Book is the rare live-action film that feels a little bit magic. Of course, it has a natural advantage of being made with some true Disney magic behind it, wonderfully repurposing the best aspects of the 1967 film while leaving behind all the forgettable interludes and dated references. It also revises the ending in a more earned way, allowing appropriate chills at the very end.

Neel Sethi's performance varies in quality greatly, but it somehow manages to add to the charm, and, hey, the kid looks like Mowgli personified, which is a true minor miracle. The voice cast features no weak points, with Kingsley and Murray being obvious standouts, although many will be pleased that Nyong'o's role is bigger than expected. The true lead of the pack is Idris Elba's Shere Khan, which is perfectly terrifying and darkly drawn.

The visual effects in this are astounding, and then you realize it wasn't shot in a jungle. Then, the effects become mindboggling. Debney's score mixes the classic songs with new themes, adding a true adventure vibe to the proceedings. It's not a perfect film; much like it's predecessor, Cinderella, it feels redundant at points It also lacks a certain visual panache. Nevertheless, The Jungle Book is an enchanting time at the theater, mixing a classic story with perfect visual effects.

Pretty disappointed that
Kaa had a screentime of like 4 minutes? If that? From the song in the credits it sounded like she had a song that was cut, which I guess makes a little more sense since the character basically existed for the sole purpose to serve some exposition and then swiftly leave the stage, but still. I was kind of waiting for her to come back at some point until I realized that nope, that was it...

I just got home from it and I loved it. There was so many scenes where the whole audience would get teary eyed and a lot of that came from how adorable the wolf pups were.

Bear Necessities
scene was cute and I really liked this version of it. The voice acting was fantastic. Overall this was really enjoyable and a great live adaption.

Mowgli's fingers in Bagheera's jowls... got me good. Didn't help that he reminded me of my one year old interacting with our cat named Bagheera. Even my six year old son leaned over to me and said "he looks like Simon".

King Louie's scene was so epic and intimidating, felt some dark soul vibs, giant and all... then he started singing.

Good movie though, would like to see it again

There were several scenes I could see really young kids getting freaked out over, I probably would have as a kid.
Otherwise, it was a fantastic movie. Highly recommend!

Yup that about it. The movie was fantastic with a couple of tear jerkers. All the actors voices matched their animals personality. Idris Elba was fantastic and the scariest thing in the movie. Overall I'd give it 8-9 rating leaning more towards 9.

Great movie everyone in the packed theatre started clapping at the end.

Just watched it. Really great. I can't believe this was not filmed in a jungle, but if you guys say so.

Mowgli's actor had some good and bad delivery but more important to me was his interactions with the animals and environment which he absolutely nailed. Not sure if that's more credit to him or the VFX team. I think they were both convincing.

I loved what they did with Shere Khan. They played him perfectly since he may not be the most physically intimidating animal in the jungle (despite tigers still being pretty huge), but they have him use his smarts and cunning in some really devious ways. It feels justified that all the animals fear him (which is great to see how the animals react to him when he is around). All the characterization is pretty good and the performances are all pretty good with the only one lacking was Kaa/Scarlett, but even then I didn't mind because the scene was still pretty good and served it's purpose, despite being so brief.

The nods to the original are fun and not distracting, except for "I Wanna Be Like You", which isn't completely horrible but just feels really out of place considering the transition into the song is about as graceful as a semi-truck trying to donuts in a parking lot. They should have saved it for the credits since the credit sequence is so great anyways with a better rendition, it just felt like they fumbled it in the film just to fit it in there.

Overall, I had pretty decently high expectations due to the great reviews and I still was really impressed by the visuals, the animals, and overall it's just a good movie all around. I even had a couple "Oh shit" surprised moments. I've seen people claim it's all style over substance and while the film isn't at all trying to be something particularly deep, I think it's pretty competent across the board and has solid enough performances and writing that it rises about some typical spectacle driven blockbuster. It's not going to get any "Best Picture" nominations but it deserves more credit than to be written off as solely a technical achievement. It at least felt more sincere than Avatar to me.

I liked the 3D too. Not as great as I'd hoped it would be but it uses it well and doesn't feel like an afterthought. Lots of good pop out gags as well, which is surprisingly rare considering how much 3D is used now. The 3D at least helps to make the scenery really pop and there are some beautiful scenes. I'm just amazed that none of it was shot on location because they go through so many different terrains with some jaw-dropping locales. Oh and I saw it in IMAX and the whole film seemed to use the entire IMAX screen aspect ratio. It's one of the few films I think even if you can't stand 3D (don't know why you'd fight it so hard when it works so well here), it would be worth a viewing in IMAX and I rarely feel even my most anticipated films really can justify IMAX for me unless they take advantage of the format.

I thought it was a fantastic movie. The kid who played M did a marvelous job. He really did. The 3d wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't see it again in that format.

Them singing the song hit a nostalgia bone. I'd see it again in theaters.

King Louie (Walken) being a mix of Apocalypse Now and mobster was amazing.
So was Shere Khan and Idris Elba's performance.

I love movies with daunting bad guys.

Scarlett delivered an unmemorable performance perhaps but nothing offensive. Her creature was visually interesting and the short scene had a good purpose.

Saw it today, I thought the first time I saw footage of it it was going to be really bad but the reviews and seeing a few more bits of it pushed me to see it.

I thought as a spectacle it was great. I have a good few gripes with it, mainly to do with certain character representations in this compared to the original. I found Mowgli to be a bit too moany at times, although he is a kid so it's not a big issue. Louie was... just really weird.
The size of him and his seriousness, and I have no idea what Christopher Walken's direction with the role was, felt like I was watching Scarface instead with that accent. I get it's probably more to do with making a change in the narrative to fit the needs of a modern movie like that (an action scene, and another character that is somewhat more threatening) but he's completely different. He's not whimsical, he doesn't have that strange mix of a carefree attitude and being a king that rules the rest of the monkeys and this missed one of the best scenes in the original, but at the same time they did try to recreate that to some degree with Baloo and Bagheera coming in and trying to save him and having a somewhat humorous scene with Baloo trying to distract him.
Really disliked Bagheera though, he just came across as overbearing and little else, but in the original while he was always just trying to look after Mowgli and put getting him to the camp first, he was still a friend to him and here it didn't feel that way.

Not sure I was a fan of Idris Elba as Shere Khan, I think he did a good job but I think he might have done better in a different role. ScarJo's Kameo (if you'll excuse the pun) was probably the only part of the movie that felt out of place, it was too short and just seemed thrown in a bit randomly.

But anyway, I did enjoy the movie and thought it was quite good, I think I'm just thinking of what the original did well too much and forgetting what it didn't do well and what this remake improved on in parts.
