Anyone see Wicked?

I did want to see it... But the actress who plays the bad and ugly witch... I dislike her.

For the rudeness of the poster dedicated to the fans...

By for his terrible performance in Pinocchio.

From what I understand, she's not actually bad. That's more Glinda.

But you're obviously entitled to your thoughts. Just providing a bit of correction. I know she rubbed some people wrong.

Also, isn’t “separate the art from the artist” the general rule I thought we all tried to follow these days? Especially if we’re talking a movie production that involves a ton of people, not just one individual. Like, there’s tons of actors and actresses who acted rude, stand-off-ish, etc., throughout the decades but unless they say or did something truly disgusting and vile, I’m not going to boycott a work they appear in especially if said work involved tons of people who had nothing to do with said vile comment or action.

I don’t think I’ve seen any Gibson movie he starred in that released after that incident, but I honestly can’t think of an interesting one he was in after that occurred. Like, the Daddy’s Home sequel or whatever it was called with Will Farrell and Mark Wahlberg? I didn’t even care about seeing the first one, so Gibson being in the sequel had nothing to do with me being uninterested in the second one.

But speaking of Mark Wahlberg? Dude flat out committed two separate assaults on minorities and said assaults were clearly motivated by racism given the slurs he used, but that was in the 80’s and he said a while back he made strives after those crimes to not be that sort of person again (in fact, while not an acceptable response on his part, he violently attacked a man in the 90’s when said man yelled out a racist slur towards a black man who was with Wahlberg at that moment). And there’s a film he’s in next month called Flight Risk next month that looks pretty good from the trailer (thought it is a January release, that’s often a red flag) so I might see that in theaters if it gets good reviews or at least on streaming or such. Yes, what he did was horrendous back then, but he did the time in jail and as far as I know he’s not committed such an act again (also, he met with the Vietnamese man, that he had assaulted in his second crime, year laters and apologized and the man forgave Wahlberg). I understand if for some they would still prefer to not see his films or such, but I feel Wahlberg has seemed sincere about not being that sort of person anymore, at least based on the info I’m aware of.

Yeah. I think he's done the work he's needed to. I don't know about Alec Baldwin or Mel Gibson but they must have done some work or else Mel wouldn't have been able to do that Santa movie with a black Mrs. Claus. And Alec wouldn't be on SNL so much.

Saw the movie recently but have never seen the original musical. It was actually not too bad. However, now I'm very curious to know how they're going to write the fact that this all powerful character was defeated by 3 fools and an aloof girl with red shoes who were simply frolicking down a road.

Saw it. I also saw the broadway play like 20 years ago, maybe with Idina Menzel (after 2005's E3) don't have the playbill.

I didn't think that play was all that at the time, and I do have to say the movie is also just ok. The ending is very good not sure if that's also where the musical takes a break. Some songs are really good, some are not, it's clear some actors in this movie can't sing. And some things feel too studio like the club. Overall the direction is good.

I do have to say it's shameful that Peter Dinklage who didn't think people like him should play in SnowWhite, was ok playing a goat while he is in fact NOT a goat.

Not much into musicals (except for Blues Brothers) however, I heard that Defy Gravity song for the first time and holy hell that is a great song. Might watch it with my daughter if she wants to check it out.

Watched it today. The performances and music are good.

The press tour is baffling.

I know they are being theater kids and embracing it I guess

Watched with my daughter and wife (boys didn't care to watch) last night and I was the only one to get through it all, I don't tend to not finish any movie. I thought it was just ok, most of the songs weren't good and were overly long and boring. The production design was great and special effects were great. Would have liked to see this with less of the musical bits, just a few would have been fine. Galinda's blonde eyebrows looked ridiculous, bothered me throughout.

Yeah, you gotta love that the munchkins weren't little people either. He's got to keep the spotlight on him only, such a douchebag.

That was way better than expected. It was a great adaptation of the book. Hadn't seen or looked into the play.
Ariana was perfectly cast for her character. The lead actress, Cynthia, seemed more grounded and normal as Elphaba than she did in interviews as herself.
The only off putting casting was Goldblum and Yeoh. They really didn't need the name recognition for this movie, maybe they thought they did. Or maybe it's to have merely passable singers in those specific roles.
Special effects and sets, costumes and songs, dance were so well integrated. Can see why it got people going in the theater.

Got dragged to see this. Was already pissed off the munchkins were human sized by minute two. Can we expect the Liliputians to be the same? It was way too long, so much needed cutting. The songs were dreary and the stylised version of defying gravity was not the best.

I actually thought Ariana Grande was pretty good casting, she killed it. The less said about the rest the better, except the green witch. Didnt like the sisters boyfriend, didnt like the prince etc. Two questions:

1. If Michelle Yeoh had no powers how did she make the storm go away
2. Was it made clear as a kid she was allergic to water, or was the umbrella just a bit of foreshadowing?

1. She does have powers, she says at one point that weather is her specialty, but that doesn’t mean she’s capable of reading from the book
2. Spoilers for the second half of the play and thus the second movie:

She’s not allergic. Unlike the book, her death is faked in the play, unbeknownst to the people of Oz aside from Fiyero (and maybe Glinda? I can’t remember if the play made it clear she knew or not her friend was alive). This is clear as she cries while dancing with Glinda, her tears do not hurt her (as while I’ve not read the book, from what I understand it specified a tear she shed did sting her face).

The umbrella bit was merely a mythology reference to the original Wizard of Oz film and the Wicked book, obviously it’s a normal occurrence to be offered an umbrella by someone next to you if it starts raining.
