My heart wants Chibi-robo, but my brain wants Ice climbers
As stated earlier, Smash 4 was a victim of the Wii U, not the other way around. The shortcomings of the console limited the game's reach (as proven by the success of the 3DS version). Nobody's saying that the Smash 4 port would be a system-seller, that's not the point of making the port. The point is that with Smash 4 being so recent, we probably won't get an actual Smash 5 for a good long while. A Smash 4 port would be a great way to buy Nintendo some time for Smash 5 to be made later down the road, not to mention get more exposure of the new franchise in Smash 4 to a potentially-wider audience.I don't think Nintendo are as relevant as they used to be..... The reality is that people don't want to pay for a Nintendo console any more. Outside of the Wii, Nintendo home consoles have been progressively selling less and less each generation. I don't think re-releasing a game that is barely 2 years old will suddenly catapult them into relevance. Be realistic...

You will keep the dream alive Heath, for all of us, when hope is lost, you will be our shining beacon.
So Isaac will be in it too, right?
as an AT ;_;
Speaking of GBA reps, I reallllly want someone from Advance Wars. Somehow I feel like there's absolutely no chance though.
I don't even like Golden Sun but I still think Isaac would be great. Currently there's not really any characters that represent GBA (Lucas I guess, but that's a long running IP and came out after the DS launched IIRC), and his psy powers would be a great gimmick to build around. I also like the design of his AT.

I can't think of any major characters originating on DS besides Nintendog, Dr. Kawashima, a gen 5 Pokémon, and someone from Rhythm Heaven. Most of the best-selling DS games feature characters already in Smash Bros., like Mario, Mii, Villager, and Toon Link. That reminds me that it blew my mind to realize that the DS is the best-selling Nintendo console ever and Lucario is the only character in the series who debuted on it. Pretty nuts.

I can't say for sure what the goals of Smash NX would be. But the difference here to me is that Ultra Street Fighter IV:
1.) Wasn't a launch title and therefore isn't there to drive sales of new hardware.
and
2.) Was primarily there just to bridge the gap between IV and V. V was less than a year away when Ultra IV got ported to the PS4.
So the goals make sense. I'm not sure if the NX will be backwards compatible, but as we know the PS4 is not backwards compatible with the PS3. So I understand the appeal of a low-risk port to PS4. Play Ultra on your PS4 while you wait for the new game to release.
But if Smash NX is a launch title, I think it carries with it slightly different strategic implications seeing as how it would be a launch game from a platform holder. It's not there to squeeze a little more mileage out of the previous game while people wait for Smash 5. It's there to drive sales of new hardware. And I don't think there's as compelling a case for it if it's more or less the same game people have been playing for 2+ years with updated visuals. I feel like you need more content in order to pitch this as the definitive version of a game that makes the hardware purchase worthwhile.
Now if backwards compatibility is gone with the NX and Smash 5 gets announced, the comparison to the PS4 version of USF4 would make sense to me as a game that's just intended to fill a gap and keep interest alive for the next version.
It's way too soon for a Smash 5. Smash 4 is still relatively fresh in everyone's mind and came out at the later end of the Wii U's life so it makes sense to bring it to other platforms. I just wouldn't expect much if I were you.I don't know the total sales for USF4 PS4. And Steve and Breadbug already covered me.
What if Smash NX is Smash 5? We don't really have much information to go with. It's all harmless speculations. It's like 13 months between n64 and Melee which is really huge changes between two games. So I'm saying anything is possible!

Sure love my pipe dreams
You could do a dinosaur from Fossil Fighters, Barbara the Bat, maybe someone from Glory of Heracles if Nintendo's got that series on lockdown now, or Goku from Jump Superstars.
I meant, you could sacrifice Resident Evil 7 and Dino Crisis Reboot now so it will never happens ever just for Snake?
Yeah, Tingle and Rupeeland right? I never had a chance to play those games but do you think he could have a decent move set coming from those franchise?
Fossil Fighters, Band Brothers, and Glory of Heracles are beneath even Mother and Xenoblade. Are those bestsellers in the same way Brain Age or Animal Crossing are?
Yeah but to me if a Smash NX is going to be made it would be to
1. Fill out the console's library
2. Because the next game is at least 5 years away and the series is a big name.
Considering that Nintendo made a big deal about Corrin an Bayonetta being the last DLC and Sakurai taking a break, it makes no sense to continue working on the game. I don't expect Smash 4 NX to be that big of a deal at launch. It's there for people who missed on it and really isn't that the point of most GOTY editions?
Yeah, that would be great. Give Olimar back 6 Pikmin and the pikmin rope, keep alph the same and replace purple and white pikmin with rock and pink. That reminds me that it blew my mind to realize that the DS is the best-selling Nintendo console ever and Lucario is the only character in the series who debuted on it. Oh, here's another fun thing I'd like to see for NX that we've all kinda forgotten about. Individualized Alph! And actually it'd be pretty awesome if Olimar was buffed up in general, since the 3DS seemed to impact him pretty badly. But mostly having Alph as his own dude would be rad.
Ehh, he doesn't really have moves to speak of. Every encounter in that game is literally a giant cloud of dust.I meant, you could sacrifice Resident Evil 7 and Dino Crisis Reboot now so it will never happens ever just for Snake?

Gotta keep Dino Crisis, but RIP resident evil 7.
They're coming off of their least successful console performance to date (ignoring the Virtual Boy). They can't afford to half-ass this with a bunch of Wii U ports.

But that's just it, Smash 4: Complete Edition would just be icing on the cake, not the cake itself. That's what the likes of Zelda U (assuming they pull a TP & release the NX version, first) & whatever unique NX games Nintendo comes up with are for.OK, but unless NX manages to capture lightning in a bottle with another WiiMote-like idea, what do you think the market is at launch for a successor to the Wii U that doesn't include people that bought a Wii U? I mean, I get it. Smash 4 has a packed roster. I don't know what more they can do to it that's going to make it a seem like a whole new game worth buying new hardware for. But as a platform-holder, I think you need to do more than just re-release a Game of the Year edition to make it a compelling launch title. Because I think a lot of the market for the NX at launch is going to be people that already own a 3DS or a Wii U and thus probably already have Smash. And for the stragglers who didn't buy already, I think the conversation would just be about a Game of the Year edition for all platforms. Not all this speculation about how an NX-specific version is being worked on.
If it's just a run-of-the-mill Game of the Year remaster, I think you wait until after launch just to fill holes in the post-launch lineup. If it really is just a straight port and it really is aimed at launch, I that's sort of a missed opportunity that they would only fall back on if there really is no compelling launch content. It says "yeah, we've got nothing here. Have a years old port of a game that you probably already own!" I said earlier that's fine if you're a third party just trying to test out the water. But I feel like more should be expected from a first party. They need software that's aimed at selling hardware. Not software they might pick up to go along with the real launch titles.

Ultimately, I'd be fine if Sakurai added like four or five characters that got cut for technical reasons, time reasons, or perceived lack of fan demand.
Wolf
Ice Climbers
Inkling
Geno
Chorus Kids
It's perfect!
EDIT: And of course non-character stuff, too. I wanna see every single thing from the 3DS version combined into the Wii U version.
NX still won't be able to handle 16 Ice Climbers.
THERE'S STILL HOPE

I think also that Squirtle and Ivysaur are very-low-level likelihood (but high enough to be mentioned). Professor Layton is another one I could see making it. I've also been a big fan of the idea of Heihachi being playable, especially since Namco has been so good to Nintendo.
Does Konami even have a video game department anymore?
Just want Takamaru from Murasame Castle (hoping he turns Assist Trophy into playable like Little Mac from Brawl to Sm4sh)
also Isaac from Golden Sun.
I would also like to see Chorus Kids get in since they were one of the most interesting speculated characters from Sm4sh.
So the NX isn't coming until March 2017.
More time for Sakurai to add new stuff?
But I doubt that they'll use his Zero design, mainly to keep consistent with Fox & Falco.Seems that way.
With the way Wolf is treated in Star Fox Zero and the references to Smash he has in both voice and design, it seems likely he'll join the party as well.

With this not coming until March 2017 I say that increases the odds of new content quite a bit.
If Smash NX receives new content (and that's a really big if at this point), those are the four characters I would most expect to see added as well. I also think there's a good chance we'd get a new Pokémon from Sun/Moon.Long post
