NX will launch in March 2017 globally, won't be at E3 (focusing on Zelda instead)

Okay so the Nintendo room on the left will be full of playable Zelda kiosks

Nintendo room in the middle will be an interactive zelda carnival with cosplay, zelda moonwalk, zelda face painting for the kiddos, and a zelda merry-go-round.

The small Nintendo room on the right will be a panic room for Nintendo execs like Reggie, Kimishima, Miyamoto etc. to hide from the press.

Again with this e3 obsession. When they announce it, it will be on EVERY site and paper it would have been had it been announced at e3, and it's insane to think it wont be.

And with new management, plans change. It's not that difficult to imagine that there were elements in play about how the NX was going to come into being that needed reworking.

We've been assuming (myself included) that NX would be entirely Iwata's swan song and Kimishima would be there to simply make sure that things went off as expected. Perhaps Kimishima saw things a different way and it has understandably put them behind schedule.

There's a lot of leaks that are being called into question by this, because any leaks that mentioned 2016 didn't exactly undergo the same level of scrutiny required to confirm them as 100% verifiable. It could have been as simple as "Zelda is coming to NX, Zelda is set for 2016, ergo NX = 2016". We got second-hand information without knowing who the second-hand informants are and if they're trustworthy.

So it's not exactly assured that this is some new change, but could easily be a chain reaction to a change that was necessitated by Iwata's passing.
 
I don't know man, as confusing as these times may seem for the company, I have to say it'll be truly fascinating seeing where they go from here.

This is honestly a major transition phase.

So Nintendo delaying their system to ...apparently....not repeat the same mistakes they did with the 3DS and Wii U equals "not getting it".

Most Nintendo threads have been absolute shitholes ever since E3 2015 where they lost against a kickstarter, a remake and a game stuck in development hell for over a decade, which all won't be out until 2017 at the earliest. Don't cry when they are deemphasizing the venture you've all raked them over the coals for before.

While I agree that getting all their ducks in a row is important, the issue is that they STILL couldn't get them in a row for an important holiday period. That illustrates that they still haven't "gotten it" in terms of planning and management.

No ones going to care if nintendo missed e3 after they have their own reveal event. As long as they do a good enough job with said event.

If it isn't ready, they should delay it. But the fact that they have to do that is damning in and of itself. Console manufacturers have been reliably getting consoles out in the fall (at least in big markets like NA) for the better part of two decades now. Nintendo missing the mark reflects badly on them.

They need to open up the Virtual Console floodgates or something to fill the gap. This is uncharacteristic upheaval and radio silence even by Nintendo standards.
 
Well that's a bit of a blow for Nintendo this year. Going to be a quiet year for them with little releases on both machines. I guess there is Zelda to show off, Paper Mario and maybe Pikmin 4 with Sun/Moon for the 3DS. I guess they are hoping the NX reveal will carry them.

I guess if the machine and games aren't ready, March it has to be. I mean X1, WII U and PS4 all could have done with another 6 months in the oven, and if what we are hearing about the NX is true - OS orientated it has to be right on launch so.. Yeah deflated, worried, but.. hey it's Nintendo!

Agreed. If they're willing to miss Christmas, then I'm going to assume they must have really, really, really good reasons for doing so, and I'm guessing the biggest of those reasons will be making sure the software is good and ready.

I feel the same. I don't want a media blow-out. I'm already going to purchase the game and I don't need to be sold on it or have my interest piqued further. I'll skip the Zelda part of their Digital Event, and watch whatever's left, if anything.

Why does that seem right? 3 months after Christmas is insane. Not many people and especially parents are going to drop the $ to invest in a new system 3 months after the holidays. Who else other than hardcore N fans are going to buy at that time?

What really bothers me about this quote is that...not even the summer releases (Paper Mario, Kirby, MH, etc.) are getting a playable showing? The games that should also be in a publically playable state alongside Zelda?
 
Still don't understand why people put so much stock into E3

When they reveal NX publications gaming and otherwise aren't going to not cover it

That could be, yes. I mean, they could use all the assets from Pikmin 3 and just create some new locations and a couple of new features here and there and call it done. Just like they did with Mario Galaxy 2.
 
Nintendo is being ultra secretive about the NX. Now they are even opting out of an E3 reveal. Nintendo has become Magic Leap.

Nintendo-Magic Leap partnership confirmed. Virtual retinal display wearable for the NX. Works with 3DS and Wii U games as well, the latter of which can be taken on the go. Zero screens are needed. New console: Nintendo ZeroScreens. Just beam lightfields into our retinas, Nintendo.

Welcome to the fold, we can all reminisce together. The end of the Wii was the stab, and the Wii U was just the twist. Nintendo continually says "please understand" and makes mistake after mistake, with no regard for their consumers whatsoever. Then you look at how Sony handled the PS4 and that was genius. You can see why PS people were happy and felt loved.

I'm not a never say never guy but I'm not getting an NX at launch (Owned N64, Cube, Wii and Wii U) and if the NEO is out first I'll probably end up with that, thereby removing funds for any other console.
 
It's going to be fascinating to see how well a new home console sells in the Spring.

I honestly wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it gets pushed to Holiday 2017.

Yeah I've been thinking this, but maybe Nintendo is actually focusing a lot on Japan, and maybe even only Japan, this time? I'm thinking Fire Emblem, AC and Splatoon told them something

There's not really much else they can show. Without NX stuff, the only non-Zelda announcements they could make would be limited to Mother 3 and maybe a 3DS game or two.

You are grasping at straws. You right, it could be in deep shit, but far more likely is that it doesn't fall within nintendos marketing plan for the system. They settled on a March launch and thus deemed it silly to waste that potetial wave of publicity of a reveal further from the launch than it needed to be. It also means the games have more time before their reveals as well. It is simple product strategy and not some sign of fucking doom.

I'm not actually sure that traditional retail wisdom is exactly accurate anymore? People buy things they want year-round now.
 
Worst thing for me regarding today's news isn't the delay, it's that E3 as a thing is pretty much over for Nintendo.

Everyone who is (maybe) a dedicated gaming site. E3 attracts companies like Forbes, WSJ, Time, and various other publications that still have a pretty high viewership in the non-gaming world. That PR is valuable. I rarely (and for a few of them have never) see those companies post articles about Nintendo Directs.

They didn't show the X1 9 months before it launched. Just chill for real. NX is gonna get revealed later this year with lots of games if E3 is going to be a wasteland for Nintendo lol

I didn't mean that to come across as negative, honestly.

I'm just having a hard time imagining a new home console and a new Zelda launching in March. The holidays are so crucial for Nintendo.

The holiday is the biggest shopping season worldwide. That has always been the case and will almost certainly continue to be the case for the foreseeable future.
