NX will launch in March 2017 globally, won't be at E3 (focusing on Zelda instead)

Lol, I guess some people never change. Good for you on staying positive, I guess.

They are skipping an event like E3 because they want to reveal NX as a special event, pretty obvious. I don't think it is the best way for them to go, but this is probably what they are thinking, and it does make some sense.

The problem with NX shifting 4 months is it misses those holiday titles and could easily miss more around the time it releases as well as down the line.

Actually, avoiding holiday titles altogether should help it's initial image. What I mean is that Nintendo is going to miss a title, someone isn't going to play ball, missing a title will be a big deal for a launch, if it is ME:A, people will just say that EA isn't going to support NX again, but shifting to March where nothing big is being released that people will miss at launch, means Nintendo doesn't have this problem, they can focus on their own launch and really, I don't care what comes out from 3rd parties on the system unless it is original content. I have a PC for 3rd party AAA titles, I am a PC gamer too and there is little reason that I would want to move away from that.

The only logical explanation I can think of is production issues at AMD. We've known for a while that 14nm won't be ready in sufficient volumes before the new year.

It's the only hold up I can think of.

How do we know they won't even make a little hint about NX during their presentation? You know Nintendo always says one thing, but they could at the end show one thing for the NX.

I doubt they'd lie to their investors about the reveal of something we already know about. At most we'll get another "we'll talk about NX this fall/winter" like we got last year.

"For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed “NX” with a brand-new concept. NX will be launched in March 2017 globally."

Please make it simple this time Nintendo.

Hm, then what's the thing with Wii's 3rd party situation? Because, that had the sales, a broader userbase than just Nintendo fans and appeal in mainstream.

Not being behind in hardware power, having support for the major engines and fleshed-out tools are more important than you think. These things impact cost of development big time, and if you can reduce these costs with providing a suitable enviroment, you might get a port even with a smaller userbase.

Being "different" is a big problem. If the standard method of control, for example, is significantly different then third party games will have to be redesigned to accommodate them. That's quite the investment, and may lead to having to create a ground-up version specifically for that console.

It's why third parties don't really use the DS4 touch pad. But if the control method is unique, standard AND integral then you start to have problems.

The thing is what's stopping them from not going to E3? At this point they must have at the very least the "new concept" and hardware design in the final phases. It makes no sense really.

Geez that is terrible timing.

The are going to miss this holiday season, by the time they come out PSVR might take off and bury them, and then by the time the console does get its first holiday season we will see PS4 and Xbox One revisions.

Might eat my words but this sounds dead on arrival to me.

If they said they'll announce NX by "the end of 2016", then I doubt the NX is even coming out this March, and that date's just to save face since they said it would release by the end of the fiscal year. We might not even see this system(s) launch until holiday next year.

Baseless speculation on my part, sure, but them not showing it at E3 kind of suggests they won't show it at that point, and I can't believe they'd announce a new system only 6 months out from launch, much less 5-3.

Brand new concept can mean so much. Look at Apple, they call a stylus BRAND NEW APPLE PENCIL. Let's hope Nintendo is just using business speak when they say brand new concept.

Guys, this thing is not coming in March.

I could bet right now that there will be no concrete news by the end of the year. They will just announce another delay, focus somewhat on mobile, release the first info on Jan/Feb, do the full blowout during E3 next year and release it November 2017.

I agree. They'll keep riding this " all new concept" message with nothing to show until march 2017, Show it at E3 17 with zelda and smash bros, andd put it out in november 17.

Meanwhile , i seriously doubt we'ell have any nintendo direct apart from the E3 thing. They'll annonce releases dates of games that are supposed to come out this year on twitter, like they recently did.

So how is the WiiU emulation going so far?

Pretty badass actually, my youtube account got updated with new Wii U emulation videos and it was running games at about 40 FPS with a few graphical errors and sound issues.

Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, 3D World....

Should be perfect in a year or so.

More than any other product, I need a lot of first hand impressions on Nintendo products. But now this console won't be at a single E3 before launch.

Not a good move in my opinion.

Hype definitely deflated...was absolutely hoping for and expecting a large presence at E3 with a NX blowout and a Fall 2016 release date.

Ah well, have PSVR to look forward to...

Realistic speculation imo.

Looking forward to finding out more whenever they decide to release some details. Can't imagine this is the roadmap they originally envisioned for NX and Zelda WiiU, but shit happens. The cupboard is looking to be pretty bare for Nintendo this fall.

Because by and large, third party titles don't really thrive on Nintendo platforms. Ports is what the Wii-U had at launch too. Nobody honestly cared much, because those games aren't what people are buying Nintendo hardware for.

Maybe if it was the only console in the market, then you'd have a point.
But with very popular, established consoles already on the market that offer all of the third party titles from day one, many people buy Nintendo consoles just to play Nintendo games. That's not going to change just because they are on an equal power level, porting a game over to a different platform still takes a lot of money and work.
To be fair those ports were a bunch of old ass games. I think the most recent one was Arkham City, and that was like six months after its intiial release or something. Its not surprising that no one was rebuying games that had been out for months, and in some cases I think years.

Nintendo has a huge hill to climb with third parties but Nintendo hasnt had the combination of a standard control method and industry standard hardware in over a decade. I don't think its so easily explained away as being able to say that Nintendo fans just dont buy third party games.

When the platform routinely gets the worst/most delayed versions of those games it's not surprising that people aren't buying them. Maybe if they actually had ports that were as good as the One/PS4 versions people might actually buy them.

Launching March 2017 globally......

....NO MENTION OF IT AT ALL AT E3....

It's all over. Been nice knowing you, Nintendo, but you've lost your way. Say hello to 3rd party Nintendo in 10 years :(

If the NX gimmick flops, 5 years.

Nintendo has enough money to weather two more console failures, plus now they're getting into mobile, which should help substantially.

I just can't believe that the NX won't be at E3. That would be completely idiotic of Nintendo to focus on a game launching on a platform that nobody will know anything about.

This is completely fucking bonkers.

Hmmm I'm definitely experiencing some Schadenfreude for some members pain. That said I think that while this does suck, I feel like this will ultimately lead to a better launch for the system. At least I hope so.

I don't really see them going 3rd party as a bad thing, rather a good thing.

They're great at making games, they suck at making hardware. This is what I hope happens.

No it'll get bad (horrible) eventually. Sega rode it out for about eight-nine years and then they got super stupid and are hopefully now kind of getting back on the ball.

So those first few years w/ their stuff on Sony/MS/PC would be great. After that, darkness and plague will spread across the land of Nintendo.

Guys I know why they can't talk about NX at E3. They're worried that it will be overshadowed by the glorious announcement of Mother 3 for western VC!

Let's not pretend that E3 is where the vast amount of consumers get their information. E3 is becoming more irrelevant each passing year.

I don't think that's how it works. You don't just want to burn your money until it's gone. You want to turn to profit as soon as possible.
