Netflix has ordered a full first season of “Marvel’s The Punisher,” continuing their unprecedented collaboration with Marvel Television.

Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle, introduced to fans earlier this year in the second season of the Netflix original series “Marvel’s Daredevil,” with Steve Lightfoot (“Hannibal”) serving as Executive Producer and Showrunner in addition to writing the series’ first two episodes.

“For me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn’t be more excited to dive into his world,” said Executive Producer and Showrunner, Steve Lightfoot. “After watching Jon’s performance in ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and progress the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own.”

Awesome. I really liked Bernthal's performance, I'm not sure if I see the Punisher being a character that can sustain a 13-episode run but, contrary to the majority on GAF, I've never had any problem with DD or JJ's pacing so I'm sure I'll be fine with this.

I can see Punisher taking place over the general NYC area, maybe even heading into Jersey. It could be like the MAX comics where Punisher almost entirely operates in NYC, but still ventures out to kill other cities' bad guys if the need arises.

Right now I'm at episode 8 and everything is sooo much better than the first season. Pacing, character development, acting and action have been greatly improved. At this point I'm just bracing for the inevitable, crushing downward spin of Netflix Mahvel.

Netflix Marvel is as likely to have enough storyline to fill a full season as Marvel Studios is of having a villain in a film not be an afterthought.

Edit: Oh, Hannibal's Steve Lightfoot is running this! I'm not sure if I should be excited or terrified. Hannibal is one of the best (and most brutal) TV shows ever, but it was also slow and ponderous like few others.

Right, I assumed there'd be no DD next year, but I also figured Netflix wasn't going to break the two shows per year format so quickly and that Iron Fist would be in DD's slot while Defenders was in JJ/Cage's slot. Maybe Punisher next summer then?
