Marvel's The Punisher spin-off ordered by Netflix

I went in with so much enthusiasm for this show. The Kilgrave thing was pretty neat. But God! The cat and mouse chase would never end.
Then they started intorducing Punisher-light, whose plot relevance made no sense.
Totally lost interest after a few episodes.
I think of my my biggest issues is that the girl who plays Jessica Jones is very dull in the role. 2 facial expressions to convey emotions.

Doubt so. When Netflix goes in, they go all in.
I think she's great. Everyone else is just so boring (except Cage). I just want to see her drink, solve mysteries, and punch dudes in the nuts for 60 minutes. I don't want any other crap.

Yeah, that's why when the Punisher show was first reported, I was convinced it's being pitched as a sort of fill in for Daredevil S3 in 2017. We'll see if that's indeed accurate.

Plenty of their stuff is less than 13. Love is 10, Wet Hot is 8, Gilmore Girls is only 4. So far we've only seen 13 for Marvel, but presumably those were contracted at 13, this could be a new deal.

Awesome news. I wonder if they'll try to keep his stories as self-contained as possible, like with no overlap from the other shows. They handle the mystical stuff, Punisher just kills gangsters.

But I do hope they can keep it razor-tight and avoid the bloat. DD Season 2's first four episodes were so satisfying, and then it got plagued with subplots that never meshed, and I'm still SO disappointed in Jessica Jones for subplots, characters, and HOURS of time wasted on filler and time-killers (really should have been 7-8 episodes max).
Punisher is a character who can be great in expertly handled doses, and grating in large doses where he never goes away. He needs to be a guy with a plan, a mission, a set-up, and an execution, clean and precise and engaging. Maybe a twist or two, but if we suddenly have a rag-tag group of quirky friends start tagging along to provide comedic cringe-worthy comic relief, it could undermine a lot of the positives.
Still excited, though.

We don't actually know who pushed for the 13 episode count for the core four shows, do we?
Oh and Defenders will be a mini series. So there's definitely precedent in Marvel Netflix.

Neato. Can't wait to watch it. Let's hope they manage to write 13 good episodes this time, instead of writing 6-8 good ones and stretching it out like they have for each show so far.
Defenders is a "mini" and it's 8 episodes! We know who "pushed" for the 13 episode count, it's the deal Marvel sold Netflix. So the push is from the production side. They want to make 13 episode shows.
