Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

I believe FanGamer is still running the SlackerBacker campaign. The Collector's Box is awesome, so I sprung for that but then my niece wanted the artbook so I went over to FanGamer to add the Dark Grimoire Tier for her as a present.
Thanks, I might send them an email in a bit and see what they have to say. I would like to get that deluxe box, with it being signed (as well as the signed OST).

I was about to suggest going back to your earlier e-mails from fangamer because they should provide a link where you can update your pledge amounts and everything, but my link actually isn't working anymore. I e-mailed them about it. I always forget the exact tier I pledged for with crowdfunding, and I like to periodically make sure that I answered all of the relevant backer questions.

Oops, I meant to say End of 2017, not End of 2018. From what they've shown, I don't think they have all that much yet. I'm sure they'll need at least another year just to produce all the content, then they'll need some time to polish it all up and add extra bits, then they'll need some more time for testing, QA and some time to get through CERT (a process Iga probably doesn't know that much about) on multiple platforms, so they can actually ship at the same time. If they're lucky, I'd say End of 2017 is realistic. I'd be interested in knowing when they think they'll have the map fully planned out, since that's one of the most important milestones for a game like that.

Honestly I still think he knows what he's doing and will ship close to the announced release date. Maybe he's off by a few months but we'll see. If it takes an extra 6-9 months I'm not going to raise a stink about it, it's game development.

If it takes an extra 18 months (as was misstated) IGA gets a dunce cap and has to sit in the corner with Inafune and think about what he's done.

There's also the possibility that he takes the Shovel Knight approach to stretch goal content: that is, rather than promising to deliver everything upfront like MN9, they instead decide to deliver the core game in the announced timeframe and incrementally release the other features (additional playable characters, online challenges, randomised castle, etc) as post-launch updates.

Fucking lol @ all the guys overeager to talk about their wives breasts. Every single time. (Completely missing the point of course)
Do you want a truthful answer?

Sure dont, my underwear are lacey and expensive so when I'm sweaty and stuff I'm not gunna ruin a 30/40 dollar piece of lengire.
Uh... you could simply not buy the non-lacey and expensive for work wear... lol seriously that's such an absurd argument, can't believe I'm reading this.

Wow! Thank you for the thorough response!

I may be being optimistic about fan/backer response to a delay, but I think that with the right messaging about the reason behind the delay and at least a trailer but hopefully a demo (ideally on all of the platforms, to show the Wii U and Vita versions working), I think many people would be forgiving compared to the reaction to Mighty No. 9. It seems like a large part of that has been because of poor communication and justifications for delays, and not because of delays themselves. Keeping it to just one delay would help a lot too, they should just keep it as one big cut and make sure they can meet that date before committing for good.

Wow, you were the director!? And writer and designer? Congratulations to you and your team! I can say I've bought the game on Steam but haven't had time to play any of it <:l. I hope to get to a lot of games when I'm not studying so hard, but Metroidvania games are a favorite of mine so I hope to get to it after finishing some more PC games. I'm currently getting prerequisites done, like Vector Calculus this term, for a Computer Science degree aiming for a masters aimed at game design with a minor in Japanese language as a potential translator... So it feels like I have little time for anything but studies, but that's besides the point :).

Was the game your idea, and if so, how did you get it off the ground? I have a lot of ideas but understand that doing everything myself is unlikely, but can't figure out how I'd start up an indie studio. I was thinking I'd probably have to get professional experience for at least a few years at a bigger company and network with a group of friends to form a studio, but I'm not sure how any of that would work out. Any advice? Also, I see that Ori was built on Unity? Would you recommend that engine, and how much custom code was necessary on the engine? I only have rudimentary C and C++ experience so I can't yet even imagine how to make engine code. The game is phenomenonal looking btw.

Interesting that asset and art creation is easily scalable, did you work on any art directly or was it all the work of other artists? I don't have a lot of artistic talent but I have a lot detailed artistic ideas and I'm not sure how well communicating visual ideas would work with collaborators. I hope to improve my own skills, but I know I'll have to rely on and work with artists so it'd be interesting to here how that worked for you.

And on the note of technical hurdles and transitional rooms, I know the PS4/XB1/PC likely wouldn't need them technically, but what about Wii U and especially Vita? Even though I'm semi-skeptical that they wouldn't just move these to the likely NX home and handheld consoles (and would be fine with it for the most part, despite looking forward to the Vita version), we have to assume they are still working with that lowest common denominator hardware. I'd think then that such rooms might be neccesary for loading, but maybe I'm wrong.

Wouldn't "quiet areas" be kind of good for gameplay anyways, or would it just be better to design those more naturally inside of an area/region instead of in between region transitions? Also, how does the streaming work with Unity's "scene" system? Is the majority of the game just one scene with all the streaming as custom code? I ask because I haven't worked with Unity very much, but the scene system strikes me as a little odd at first glance.

Thanks for reading all of this! Congrats again on your success, I hope to be in the same position on day!

I'd be fine with the end of 2017 for the core experience.

I don't think you have a wife. Enjoy your stationary breasts.

Pretty sure you're responding to sarcasm.

Yeah, it seemed pretty clear from their second post like that.

This is probably the ideal situation, work on the core and deliver the rest later. I'd argue the additional characters and other things like new game plus are "primary features" since the other characters are likely tied closely enough to the plot that delays for their perspectives would be unfortunate.

As long as the "secondary features" do not take a very long time after release (max of a year and a half would be alright IMO, I'd understand if they took longer though), then I'm fine with this option.

The Kickstarter says the estimated delivery is March 2017, and my rule of thumb is to add a year to the KS estimate. Any time at or before March 2018 is okay by me. Past that it's late.

My wife's breasts never move at all. Real breasts don't titilate by jiggling.

Like bags of sand.

raw

I love how each Bloodstained update devolves into discussions about boobs.

Especially now that we have this.

Depending on the bra, my wife's breasts ripple with every step she takes and she's a large B cup. When she freeboobs around the house, they are absolutely out of control.

Freeboobing. Sounds like a fucking olympic challenge.

Considering how far zoomed out the game is going to be, this is such a non-issue. Unless he goes full Kojima in cutscenes.

Never go full Kojima.

What you guys think we'll get for the 1 year anniversary of this game being funded? They must have something prepared for either May or June's update right?

I don't think a trailer is reasonable to say. It's way too early for that.

Hopefully, some non-jiggle options. I mean, jesus - real boobs don't jiggle.

"Combat Ready"

As I kind of mentioned before, the animations, poses, etc. of a character can give us a lot of insight into them and their personality. I feel both of these are encouraging because they give a sense of "confidence" and "badassery" to the character. I think as long as they avoid any "stoic"/"I breath edge"/"humourless" tropes I think we will have a winner. That "feminine but still cool/badass" topic that I think I saw pop up recently would be a good place to put Miriam's character I'd think/hope. I liked Shanoa (a lot in fact) but I don't want a copy & paste job.

They are taking next week off for Golden Week so perhaps but I'm skeptical. I'd expect something more for the 1 year anniversary of the end of the KS than the start.

Still not a fan of the way her feet are constantly pointed in and trying to hog the same spot on the ground. It looks timid compared to someone like Shanoa, who has a very firm or strong looking stance in my opinion.

You're probably right. The only thing that makes me think they might go for late May as the 1 year anniversary update rather than the late June one is because of them wanting to announce or show something big-ish before E3 rather than after. But if E3 is a non factor for them then yes, I think we might have to wait until June's.

I'm 100% sure they'll have to delay this game.

And I'm 100% alright with it.

These animations look great. But the ones I'm expecting are from the bosses. Hopefully they spoil only one boss. And I really hope they are at least as good as Ecclesia ones, the best bosses Castlevania series ever had.

i agree and think OoE had the most amazing bosses in the series. it was an amazing game and the main reason i am so excited for this game is it seems they are getting really close to a spiritual sequel to that game.

I could but I don't want to waste my money.

You asked a question. I gave you the truth wasting money foright a non needed item, now that is absurd friend.

Today is the one year anniversary of the launch of the Kickstarter!

Fuck time and how quick it moves :(
I knew it was one of these days but I completely missed the real one by two days. Here's hoping Iga has something special to commemorate the first anniversary of the game since it got funded either in May's update or June's.

Also are you also Crocodile from the Bloodstained Fan Forums?

Bloodstained's very delayed May update confirmed by Fangamer to be going out later in the next few hours. It's supposed to be a big one or at least bigger than the last few we've had.

Get hype, people! I know I am!

Just pre ordered three copies for me and a couple of friends since I'm the only one with the prime discount. I'm kind of sad it got delayed but at least that leaves FFXV with more time and I can beat P4DAN and the Arena games.
I fully expect Bloodstained to be delayed but until now they haven't said a thing officially about any delay. As of right now it's stil a March 2017 launch which I'm sure they won't meet. Not after the KS got 1000%+ donations than initially "needed".

EDIT: lol I responded to a wrong thread post. Disregard.

No way in hell it doesn't get a delay.

March 2017 wasn't a target to hit. It was put up because that's the 20th anniversary of Symphony of the Night.

Fall 2017 at the earliest.

About that.... NEW UPDATE. With gameplay! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VKfthxb4t8

For this month's update, the team has put together a video and some screenshots of an actual stage in Bloodstained. This is the game's first stage, where we find Miriam on a ship, the Galleon Minerva, headed toward the castle. It's a setting filled with anticipation.

And I have some exciting news: We’ll be showcasing a playable demo at E3. In addition to that, we'll be giving the demo to all backers at $60+ tiers.
This E3 preview is a simple playable demo and tutorial of this Minerva stage. The lesser demons we've introduced in the last update (Morte, Seama, and Dullahammer) will appear, and the magi-crystals players will obtain from enemies, also known as "Shards," will also be included.

Oh—I see I've already forgotten to mention something important: Morte isn't a full-fledged demon, and so doesn't have a shard. This is important so I’ll say it again: Morte has no shard.

Demo Information
The preview demo that you'll be getting is the same build IGA and the team will be showing at the Xbox booth at this year's E3. We plan to start distributing it during the show or shortly afterward.

Some FAQs (figuratively asked questions):
Who gets the demo? We'll be sending it to everybody who pledged at a $60 tier or higher and filled out their backer survey by June 13.

What platform is it on? Windows only; we'll be distributing it digitally, through Steam, so make sure the e-mail address on your survey is current!

Is this the Beta? Nope! The Beta comes later, and will still only be available to backers who pledged $60 or more and ordered a Steam or DRM-free PC version of the game.

Wait, now I want the demo! How can I— Your survey links are still active! If you upgrade your tier through your survey before June 13, we'll be sure to include you on the list.

I’ve got a $60+ tier, but what if I haven’t filled out my survey yet? Your survey must be filled out by June 13 to receive the demo. Send us a message through Kickstarter or email orders@fangamer.com if you can’t find your survey link! (Remember: We aren't using Kickstarter's built-in survey, so look for an e-mail from Fangamer containing your personal [and reusable] survey link.)

What... what if I haven’t backed the Bloodstained project at all? You can still receive the demo if you back the project through igavania.com/back and pick a $60+ tier by June 13!

We'll release another backer update once the demo is available. But hey, enough of that for the moment—we owe you the aforementioned video and screenshots.

This new video looks really great, the music by Yamane is also a god send for this game.
Great they will showcase some more gameplay at E3, looking forward to it.

Looks pretty good. Character movement seems smooth enough, and I like the environments. Would really like to see some action, but that'll come soon enough.
