Quantum Break PC performance thread

The game just won't stop downloading and the progress bar is still fucked. I'm tempted to just abort and reset everything but it's still downloading so egh idk ;_;
It's well beyond the 42GB indication on the store :s But I started downloading after the patch release so it shouldn't be 25GB+42GB right? Ugh.

The progress bar on the Store is broken, I think. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Seems like AMD users are smart people and they did not buy this POS ;)

As for downloading form the store - I was checking the progress using built-in Resource Monitor - it can show you the speed of downloading from the net and speed of writing to disk. It may be useful in diagnosing if Windows Store is actually downloading the game or not.

Trying to decide if I want to buy it... I have a 290X...

Is the game worth the asking price yet? Or should I wait for a sale?

You can probably get it off a GAFer in the Buy/Sell/Trade thread for $25, which is what I did and which I think is worth it because it's a good game under all the tech problems. I've got a 980 and can run it OK now, and if there's a performance advantage for AMD I suggest you try it out and give us your impressions :)

It's downloading...

Do I need anything special to benchmark Windows Store games?

Edit: Also... I wasn't aware you could change the default destination drive for Windows Store Apps... Now I do...

Edit2: seems to download a lot slower than Steam... I don't think it'll finish downloading before I have to get to bed...

Edit3: The download keeps "losing connection."

Framerate and frametime - with and without 30fps lock.

I hope Digital Foundry will do a thorough re-test of the patched version.

Well these are the headings that presentmon records

SyncInterval
AllowsTearing
PresentFlags
PresentMode
Dropped TimeInSeconds
MsBetweenPresents
MsBetweenDisplayChange
MsInPresentAPI
MsUntilRenderComplete
MsUntilDisplayed

I have no idea what any of that means, but hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me knows which if these is framerate and frametime.

Messed around a little with settings after patch. Found 2 presets that work for me:

1. 30 FPS:
Ultra preset
Resolution 1920x1080
Lock to 30 FPS - ON
Texture resolution - HIGH
Anti-aliasing - OFF
Upscaling - OFF
Film grain - OFF

2. 60 FPS:
Medium preset
Resolution 1600x900
Anti-aliasing - OFF
Upscaling - OFF
Film grain - OFF

My PC:
GTX 980
i7-4790k
16GB RAM
Installed on SSD

Finally managed to download this update. Well, performance has improved for sure, thanks mostly to the refresh rate fix i think, but it's still quite unplayable without upscaling at 2k. I'm not sure things will get better with future updates, unless they'll allow to reduce MSAA. Just for the records, activating GSync won't cause any more issues.

My rig: 6700k@4.5, 16 gb of RAM, GTX 980Ti@1.5ish.

Was the update a complete download of the game for you, too? Mine is saying 27 gigs?

^ With everything on Ultra it's impossible on current gen GPUs, but also lowering volumetric lighting and shadows gives no guarantee.

Yeah, that's correct, 27 GB. It's not the whole game but 3/4 more or less.

Haha. What the fuck, Microsoft? PC gamers will never take you seriously. Now get the fuck out...

Yes, it's quite big and considering how bad the Store is it's even worse, since i downloaded something like 50 GB thanks to the errors I got, but hey, it's made to improve the game so i wouldn't get mad for that.

Anyways, did you notice that in the video settings now is possible to set the geometry detail? On Ultra you can try a whole new slideshow experience.

EDIT: actually that settings is not so demanding but it hits fps a bit. And I just noticed that while I'm playing, by enabling and disabling the upscaling I get a consistent fps improvement. I ran the game with everything on ultra (dock level) and it was really running like shit, afterwards I enabled the upscaling, and it was much better, then I tried to disable it again and the huge slowdowns were disappeared. I don't know if this is related to the way wddm manages the gpu resources or to GSync but that's what I got. Pretty satisfied.

Haha. Can't wait to see my Titan X slideshow 4k with the lowest settings. This game is kinda a joke...

Did anyone managed to achieve stable 60fps at 1080p with upscaling disabled? It seems impossible to me, at least without lowering graphics settings below Xbox One levels (i.e. below medium).

Also, LOD transitions/popup was definitely improved - this no longer happens:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nqx0fIER4hc

I just played the game for a couple of hours and using all medium, ultra textures, aa off, upscaling off and filmgrain off gave me a pretty solid 60fps experience. Maybe once or twice it dipped just by a few fps but damn it looks awesome when it's smooth even though Xbox levelish graphics are needed to run at 60fps.

Download speeds on the store are a joke.

And normally I don't care, since I have a pretty fast connection.

And the worst thing is that on Xbox I get good speeds.

Win store is up there with PSN for how shitty everything runs.

Those bugs were fixed in an update months ago.

If you're still seeing issues with the download, just wait. Cancelling and restarting it will only make it take longer for you.

I can download from the Windows Store maxing out my 90 megabit/sec Comcast connection. Are you sure your download is actually slow? Or does it just look slow because of the UI?

It's been happening to me downloading Quantum Break's patch.

(Yes, the patch is still downloading. Partly because my computer is usually booted into OS X which means I can't download, and partly because my college internet is really slow).

It's just slow. I check current traffic through my router; I have a 250mbit connection, and the win store never goes higher than 70/80.

Did you check the actual speed using Resource Monitor? Here's the patch to Quantum Break downloading on a 250mbit connection:

Don't get me wrong, I hate UWP and windows store as much as the next guy, but I can't complain about download speed it's fast when it's actually downloading - but random pausing of the download does happen, so it needs to be monitored by the user.

I want to buy this but there is absolutely no fucking way I am paying £44.99 for the game on PC, no chance.
Check BST. Originally I decided I didn't want to spend more than 15$ on the game due to the port quality but considering the codes from the pre-order cross-promo thing didn't get cheaper over the past weeks and certainly the quantity is more limited (I think the promo ended on April 5th or sth)... I just caved and bought at 25$. Doubt it will get that cheap anytime soon and since WinStore is the only way to buy it...

Download sitting at about 75gb now btw, I think it might just finish tomorrow! lol

Yes, I did. And it's slow, no two ways around it.

50 gb means a 30 minutes download for me normally. It's been going for hours now.

After some more testing, I could definitely say the bad performance I get without the upscaling is related to VRAM availability: every time I move to one area to another, I lose fps and the game starts to stutter. When I try to enable and disable the upscaling again, those lost fps come back and the stuttering is gone, but it usually returns when the next area gets loaded... This simply means that at 2k 6GB of VRAM are not enough. This happens by playing with everything on Ultra.

And, speaking of memory saturation, when I loaded the swimming pool level I got a severe stuttering during the first cutscene and soon after the video driver crashed. There is something really wrong about memory management in here, don't know if related to UWA or the engine itself.

No, this means that their memory allocation code is bad.

Yeah I guess so, but given the current situation 6 GB of VRAM are not enough. Memory does not get flushed properly when going to one area to another.
Anyway I reported the issue on the forum, hope they'll read it, but probably they are already aware of it.

My problem is similar to yours, but I'm at the medium preset. I'm on a 980ti and while my frame rates are good at 1440p, I've also noticed that when I transition from certain scenes to another, the frame rate tanks and the game becomes an unplayable, stuttery mess. To fix this, I just pause the game and un-pause it (sometimes, it takes a few tries), and the frame rate shoots back up again and the game is perfectly smooth again.

Is there reaally no way to change installtion directory on the Windows Store?

Holy F*cking sh*t at this amateur hour nonsense. Just had to delete a bunch of stuff to make room because, like most sane people, I have a small SSD as my primary.

go to settings, change where you want apps to install to. you can also ,move things from one drive to another. its easy

Yup, pretty freaking ridiculous. Not only did I have to delete a ton of crap off my ssd, but I then had to uninstall the game, and redownload it because I still didn't have enough space for the 27 GB patch.

I was unable to move Quantum Break from my primary drive to my other drive on my pc, as it kept giving me an error. I'll have to see about changing the settings, so that in the future, any other apps don't get installed to my C drive.

you guys don't spend much time reading do you? SMH

Wait..People seriously don't know how to change the install location for your apps?

Is this your first computer?

Half the time all this ranting about Windows and the store is user error.

Go to settings, System and then Storage and choose your location for your apps.

It's not difficult people, come on.

To be fair, most people probably expect it to be a setting in the store itself like Steam or Origin, every other digital game marketplace on PC. With Windows apps you have to leave the store altogether and open Windows settings. It's not intuitive at all... I only found out because I expanded and read all the small text at the bottom Quantum Break page of the store.

Not my first computer, but first time using Windows Store's wonky interface. I don't typically use Windows apps at all... I doubt most people do.

Likewise. This is my first time using Windows store and Windows apps. And yeah, I was looking for a setting somewhere in the Store to change my destination folder, seeing as how that's how Steam handles it. For a first time user of the Store, this is not intuitive at all. But now I know, so thanks to the people who posted what you need to do a few posts back.

I don't even get a consistent 60fps at 1080p Medium settings with screen space reflections off. I've got an i7-6700k & a GTX980Ti. What are you guys setting it to?
