Modern Warfare Remastered won't be sold separately

There's no way Activision won't try to capitalize on extra sales for a stand-alone MW:R after IW launches.

Yeah. It's to sell the preorders for the Legacy Edition. 1-2 months after release they will release it as a standalone. The question though ... How much? Will they go for 69€? Possible.

It's probably using the same executable and engine as IW and you start MW from within the IW menu. Basically a "DLC"

I'd be fine with this if they didn't do a 1:1 conversion from $ to £. £80 is is nearly $120 for gods sake, it's atrocious.

Theres gonna be plenty of games to play, until activision announces the stand alone game on PSN down the road once IW sales start to taper off..

Is it confirmed there'll be a separate code?
The code will be in the box.

Infinite Warfare will sell just fine with or without MW:Remastered. It's not like the games are struggling to finish towards the top of the sales charts yearly.

Packing in MW:Remastered will only make sales even better.

That's what I mean. Making Infinite Warfare a requirement to get MW initially can only bolster the sales, even if people just end up selling the game after they get the code. Once that tapers off they'll definitely release the game separately to coerce those who held out the first time, myself included. It's free money, which Activision is not one to turn away from.

Ha ha! Of course. Had a feeling this would be the case.
I bet you MW is just an up-res port too, would be surprised if it was anything more than that.

EDIT: I am pleasantly surprised! It is more than an up-res port! I'm sure it'll be sold seperately at some point considering the effort they seem to have put into it.

Lot of people giving up on Infinite Warfare without hearing much of anything about it. Is that honesty fair to the game?

I'm going to laugh if they require you to have the IW disc to play MWR though. Would kill resales.

I'm going to get the collector's edition either way (unless it's another stupid RC vehicle).

No one wants to buy another shitty IW CoD game tho. we just want the last good one released.

They're already in bad standing with the community. Pile that one to the fact that it's only 10 MP maps, really??

Hopefully the average consumer doesn't fall for this crap and it falls flat on its face.

But then again we're talking about the average CoD consumer so...

which is the point? People acting like this isn't a genius move to move units are kidding themselves. I already know a few people who moved away from CoD coming back for this one due to MW, which is what they want.

$80 for the Legacy Edition.

That's grim, no thanks!

In the UK I usually pick up COD for £30 a week or so after release, if the same happens as usual and the price drops like a stone due to offers then I'll buy it or if people are selling the codes to download COD4 that would also do.

Cool, bugger all interest in the remaster as I've always hated modern era COD, so I might get it to sell here on Gaf, since that'd make 2 people happy and save us both some cash.

By not separately they are confirming its in the remaster trilogy listed on Amazon ✔️

Um...they showed footage and it's significantly better

Yeah I just looked now... I am pleasantly surprised!
Faces don't seem to have got the same polish, but yeah looking good on that front actually.

I would be surprised if they never offer this another way. Probably just a period of exclusivity to push IW sales. (Infinite Warfare... Infinity Ward.... IW...just noticed now)

What does it say about the Call of Duty franchise if Activision fear the new version of their flagship franchise is threatened by an incomplete remaster of a game that came out nine years earlier?

It doesn't say anything. This game will sell just fine regardless. You add this in to get more people to buy that $80 dollar edition thus driving up profits. Don't worry. I'm sure they'll sell it all on it's own after the holidays.

CoD just, once again (for like the 7th year in a row now) exceeded sales expectations.

Shit always sells and will always sell. People play the game together, they buy it because their friends buy it and because it's "the game". People who don't even play games buy it.

Give it a couple of months after the release when there are no special releases from Activision and then they'll drop a standalone version to make that cash.

This is the constant cycle every year in regard to COD games. All over the internet you'll hear constant whining while a lot of those same people and consumers at large go out and buy the game. I mean there is a reason COD charts for months.

All of you guys saying to buy the game to get the code and trade aren't thinking of the possibility that you might need to actually run IW in order to play MWR. Throws that whole strat out of the window.

how will the remastered multiplayer population be populated enough if you have to buy an even more expensive version of a game you don't want.

exactly. This series just keeps on trucking.

Seriously you guys need to stop saying this.
I'm freaking the fuck out. I'm already having nightmares and I'm not even asleep yet.

Sorry, but it is Activision afterall.

And the second hand sales would be effected for having that plastered on the box (not that they care, lol), and no way to purchase it (like the old online passes) once redeemed.

They are playing this commercially smart, lol.

Of course they won't sell is separately at launch, why would they. Everyone who buys a copy of IW just to get the remaster justifies that. The rest will just buy it later so they don't lose anything. It's shitty for the consumer but it was to be expected.

I've got no desire to buy a new Call of Duty game, but I really wanted to buy the remaster. The remaster isn't worth $80 IMO. Hopefully, they change their mind further down the road after release.

Is there any example of something like this in the past where it eventually became a standalone product?
MW2 Hardened and Prestige Editions came with CoD Classic. Though I don't remember if it released right away for everyone or if it was exclusive for awhile.

That IW legacy cover makes me think it's gonna be DLC.

Why would half of the cover be MW if it was a separate game? It'd just have a sticker on it or something like Nuketown, Freefall, Alan Wake, Fallout 3, etc.
