The news said earlier today that Trump wants an insider politician. He'll have trouble finding one probably since he's so unpopular though.
At this point Bernie Sanders is nothing more than an attack dog on Clinton's left. She's going to be getting it on both sides now, with Sanders actually feeding Trump salvos to launch in her direction. There's even talk of Sanders pushing for a contested convention which only helps Trump since the GOP is seemingly falling in line to support him now.
I think she's got the campaign and foresight to do that. Sanders needs a timeout to reevaluate leashing his supporters to himself until the bitter end. There is too much at stake!

I don't mean to suggest that Bernie Sanders will magically become competitive, just that the Democratic primary has been basically an afterthought up to this point and without a Trump circus on the Republican side I wonder if the Dems' race will actually be followed more closely, even if the tone of the race itself doesn't really change. (It's pretty obviously too late for him now.)

This. America is still the most powerful country in the world by quite a bit, and will remain so for at least the next decade by all projections. Our economy has major effects on the economy of pretty much every other country on the planet. And Trump in particular has a lot of policy ideas that would have absolutely major reprecussions worldwide, like wanting to make NATO partners bear more of the burden, wanting to stop free trade, etc.
