Uncharted 4 spoiler free early copy impressions

Incredibly Naive
People just need to accept that the UC2 MP we loved is never coming back. Naughty Dog loves the insanity, imbalance, and chaos that started with Uncharted 3. :/

Unless we get a Classic Mode I would just stop hoping and either play it for what it is or not at all.

I don't think its that, I think they want to build a "sustainable" model like battlefield or cod. People love powerups, killstreaks, customization, etc.

Personally I prefer mp for the competition through teamwork and skill, not using the best builds and having the specials do it for me.

yep, HATED it.

Also why I'm particularly not too fond of the TLOU intro tbh

I thought I was the only one!! TLOU is number 3 on my all time game list where you have to go about 30 spots to find Uncharted 2 but give me Uncharted 2 intro any day. TLOU intro is good on first play but an all time great intro has to have a little more gameplay in it IMO. I fear Uncharted 4 is going to take where the left behind dlc left off with a sight seeing fest for the first couple hours...

hehehehehee

Guys who are playing this and also play on high end PCs, what game on PC can you compare it to?? Like realistic, no hyperbole. When I see someone say "Best looking game even compared to 4K ultra settings game", it's going to definitely invite some skepticism and whatnot.

Hahaha.

Here's my ranking of the intros UC4 > TLOU > UC2.

TLOU intro is like MGSV intro. UC4 intro is nothing like that.

Can anyone shed any light as to why your enemies have glowing red outlines on them?

I know you can turn it off on the single player but I don't remember this on the beta - looks fucking awful and I can't for the life of me understand why the fuck they are putting this shit into games...

Anyone?

edit: is it a perk?

edit: thanks scaryshark

I still fucking hate it though and wish to fucking god it would die :-(
Looks fucking awful and I should be allowed to turn it off. Having it like TLOU wouldn't be as bad.

edit: noticed its also on your own downed team mates as well? wtf? smfh. IIRC it wasn't like this on the beta so what was wrong with just having a medic sign of approximation over them? gutted....

It's people who have been marked by teammates, which is a perk.

Rise of the Tomb Raider was crazy impressive on PC which I just played in perfect 60fps. Uncharted 4's look and attention to detail is a step above TR. sure the 60FPS is nice, but U4 has a sort of cinematic look to it. But it's the detail, it's insane. I couldn't stop taking pictures.

Something that has been suspiciously missing in these uncharted threads... Arne. Where is he? He would normally post in these threads from time to time.

I found Uncharted 1, 2 and 3 to be merely ok (I always found the gunplay better than the platform that was ridiculous imho) but I loved TLOU.

Are there any chances I'll like this one knowing what I didn't like about U1-2-3 ?

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.

He's in the ND twitch stream chat.

Don't like that the E3 setpiece is probably the biggest of the full game. That is my feeling reading the impressions.
It's like God of War without the crazy bosses.

A bit disappointed but I'm still waiting to play the game..

I agree about the MP being overdesigned but saying that about TLOU story is just bizarre. You are allowed not to like it, but "shit"? Seriously?

TLOU had an awful story, it was so obvious how it was going to play out from the time it was announced. There's a disease going around, dude loses child during outbreak because the dipshit uses her as a shield, years go by and dude helps girl because why not, girl is immune to disease aintthatatwistIdidntseecoming, dude sees girl as new daughter, kills doctors for fun. Fin. It's been a long time but that was the story basically, no good.

What made the game amazing was the level design and gameplay, one where each bullet meant a huge deal and the fights were intense. The PSX demo for UC4 alone showed that the gameplay for this game was going to be amazing, don't really care about less bombastic moments but minute to minute gameplay sounds great.

The MP is very overdone from the videos I've seen, it seems worse than the beta unless I'm thinking too fondly of that, but at this moment it is something I don't think I'll bother with. Co-op should not have this issue but there are some months to wait for it, hoping there's enough content but we shall see quite basically. Once a SP game is done that's it, just seems a shame that just great gameplay is being buried under stupid shit like these mystics in MP.

I'm not here to shitpost, but I'm honestly interested: Is there anybody out there who, like me, really disliked the gunplay / feel of aiming and shooting in every single UC (including the PS4 demo for the UC collection) and yet agrees with the statements on the first page, that the gunplay in UC4 is fantastic?

I always liked to follow the characters through the games but really hated the shooting which is more important to me. For years I blamed it on the loose sticks of the DS3, until I played the UC Collection demo where it felt about as bad on the DS4 as it did before. Is it significantly different from previous entries, especially that loose feeling while aiming? It never felt as tight to me as it should have, don't know how to describe it better than that.

After I finished TLOU for the first time on the PS4 just this year and loved it I'm ready to be hyped by a ND game again. But I bought all three UC games (UC3 only on sale) and regretted it afterwards every time.

Please don't hang me.

I agree with you 110%, the first three uncharted games were awful gameplay wise, horrendous. But with TLOU ND got gameplay so right and they've bought what they learnt from that into Uncharted 4 which we should be excited about, the beta alone showed they had learnt a lot. If Hennig and the other dude were still directing this game, wouldn't have given it a second glance.

Is this the first time Amy Hennig's commented on the game since leaving/parting ways with ND?https://www.twitter.com/amy_hennig/status/727944163954565120

If the game is as good as people are saying it is there's no way people won't swiftly forget the early Uncharted 4 debacle, but I will always feel bad for her.

Sounds like a pretty compelling framework for a story if executed well, which it was. If the only thing I was looking for in stories was not being able to predict anything that happens I would go watch lolrandom youtube videos.

You must be a genius to figure out the whole story from the get go.

Were too busy looking for twists and wringing your hands about how "predictable" everything is to notice how good the dialogue, character relationships, economy of storytelling, etc were? It's a character driven story man.

I don't understand how can you feel like that about tlou's story. To me it was one of the gems of the game.

Feel bad? She wasn't even forced out of ND or anything. The game didn't work out so she left.

How is that not still unfortunate? She loves Uncharted, clearly. I would think she'd want her work on it to be successful.

I agree, that the gunplay of the uncharted series being subpar, with U2 probably being the best.

I can assure you that this is nothing like the previous series. It's tighter, snapier, more responsive, fluid. Did you try the beta?

Weak gunplay is a fairly common complaint against the first 3 Uncharted games, so I am sure you are not alone.

WTF 5GB day one patch. Multiplayer component probably, but still..

Choex9fUkAApACo.jpg

is it bad that 5GB sounds pretty small and reasonable to me? I'm too used to 17gb+ patches

You get to turn off boosters day one in custom games but not mysticals or sidekicks.

Ok, ND, you're giving the people what they want.

This is a very short sighted and reductive way to look at things. By this account, most stories in most films and games, even Oscar winning or critically acclaimed ones, are highly predictable. No Country for Old Men is just about an Assassin trying to get back stolen money. Shawshank Redemption is just about a guy in prison. Jungle Book a kid in a jungle tying to escape an angry tiger etc. The point is that it's the different events, occurrences, emotional resonance, character relationships, developments and nuances that dictate how effective a narrative is, not simply the base synopsis.

Thanks for your reply! No I didn't try the beta, that's why I'm asking. Would really like to try some sort of demo. Your comment already tempts my impulse buy habit, though. Snappy and responsive is exactly what I wanted to hear.

I feel like if you're going to play custom game settings, you can simply tell the players to not have any mysticals, sidekicks on. You don't have to actually equip them.

I wanna try a TDM with downs off. I'm surprised that's there.

How is the gunplay compared to MP3 which I consider to be one of, if not the best third person shooter out there in terms of gunplay mechanics?
